all of you guys who upgraded to 3.1.3 new baseband good news geohot has confirmed that it will do something as a lot of people r on new baseband.dont trust me!!follow this link

Look closer. That says "goobot," not "geohot." It's a spoof account designed to give people like you false hope. Geohot is working on the PS3 exclusively now. I think he wants to use it to crack SHA encryption.

you r right but i cannot loose hope.it will come my heart says this.i know after seeing this post you will reply by saying that "you can think what you want to but it will not come" people like you cant sympathize, always trying to hurt.:(:(

Why bother asking on this forum if you will not believe what everyone is telling you ? If you do not want to use an approved iPhone carrier or if you can't live without your iPhone being jailbroken, you should replace your iPhone (i.e. sell it) and get another type of smartphone (there are many nice ones out there).

And do not believe that I cannot sympathize; I understand how upsetting it must be to lose the use of your iPhone, and I am not in any way "trying to hurt" you. But I fail to see how being realistic about the prospects for an unlock is hurting you; I believe you are being hurt far more by those who would mislead you with false hope.

I have not said that a 5.12.1 unlock will certainly never come, I have only given you my realistic assessment of its likelihood (highly unlikely). I will add that if one is made it will come either from geohot or from the Dev Team, neither of whom seems to be very interested in making one right now.

And, since you seem to think I don't want to help, I will do you another favor by telling you where you can look for reliable information on jailbreaking and unlocking:

The Dev Team Blog - The definitive source for info on JB/UL.
The Dev Team's Twitter - Seldom-updated Twitter feed.
MuscleNerd's Twitter - Don't ever upgrade until MuscleNerd says it's okay.
CPICH's Twitter - He and Musclenerd will have the first tweets about any unlock.
Geohot's Blog - Release info about blackra1n, blacksn0w, etc.
Geohot's Twitter - What's on Geohot's mind (hint: it's not 5.12.01)

These are the sources of all reliable information on jailbreaking. All else is speculation, lies, or information taken right from these sources. Also, when looking at Twitter, believe only tweets by the account owner, not the rubbish posted by others that merely mentions the owner. And the Dev Team Blog is always the definitive source for information.

thnx brother .this time i found you somewhat different i was somehow irritated by your posts of always writing "no jailbreak no unlock for new baseband" thats why i said all this stuff to you i was a bit harsh.Sorry. i should accept the reality of the situation now:(

Dude, this has been beat to death.

Yes there is a possible exploit to create an unlock. The DevTeam may or may not be able to make an unlock and may or may not release it for 3.1.3.

It is the opinion of most hackers, that if an unlock comes from this, it will not be released for 3.1.3.

Same answer as every other post about this... we shall see.

If this bothers you that much, sell that phone and get one you can JB and unlock and DON"T UPDATE IT !

Your best bet is to take it back to the apple store and tell them somethings wrong with it to get a replacement. If they happen to give you another iPhone more than likely it will be on 3.1.2, so from there you can JB it.

there should be a way of getting you back to firmware 3.1.2

This is a way you can downgrae firmware for 3.1.2.
http://www.redmondpie.com/download-the-new-iphone-os-firmware-3.1.2-aga809/
You will have to use your iTunes to restore your phone.
What you have to do is to trick itunes to think that you are applying 3.1.3
again.
Simply replace your ".ipsw" file with the file you are going to download and do restore.
Also even if you are not ATT customer apple should be able to assist you. For 90 days since you bought your phone their phone service is free after that you may need to pay for it, but it would be worth it for you at this point.
They can walk you through the process. They don't need to know if you are with ATT or if you aren't. They don't need to know if you phone is jailbroken or not.

Also there should some resources on the web were you can find about downgrading firmware from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2. At this point you don't have much to loose so I think it would be worth trying. I would probably go with Apply while their hold my hand just to make sure it is done correctly.

Additionally Apply has this Genius support where you can make an appointment and go to their store to receive some technical support from
their geeks who know their stuff.

WOW, just WOW !

This post is so wrong, I can't believe it. The web article you linked him to is 5 months old. Everything with respect to 3GS firmware has changed.

He cannot restore to 3.1.2 firmware without having his SHSH blobs stored thru Cydia.

And I will repeat what I said after your other post...

So the "IPhoneuserSuper" isn't quite accurate ??

I don't think there is anything correct in this post except for the Apple tech support number. IUS, Apple will not offer any assistance in downgrading to a firmware version they no longer support and are actively trying to prevent you restoring to. Why don't you hang out for a while, read, learn what you're talking about and then consider beginning to post again.

Questions

Guys, please help. I updated to 3.1.3 and got the new firmware 05.12.01

I've read it all and come to the following questions:

why is it only possible to JB 3.1.3 with pwnage tool 3.1.5 if you have to older firmware? The new firmware comes with the 3.1.3 update right so this makes no sense unless you can downgrade firmware version as well. Can you?

Am I right that if I downgrade to 3.1.2 that I still keep the 5.12.1 firmware and therefore can JB though but not unlock my iphone?

There are websites claiming that the NO SERVICE can be fixed by iRecovering the phone after downgrading and jailbraking, but this does not work for me. Is that because of the firmware version as well?

I my country (Germany) I can pay 100 EUR to T-mobile to get my phone officially unlocked. Would that be the solution for me? 100 EUR is fine to me, as long as can still JB it.

Last question: why have I been so stupid updating my phone? Grrrr.

thanks to answer my questions

Yes, your only option at the moment is to pay the 100€
or wait several months and hope for an unlock to be released.

Pwnage Tool can only be used on a phone which has been pwned - that is, which has had its boot loader modified to eliminate the signature check normally required to install firmware. Jailbreaking on a previous firmware pwns your bootloader if you have the older bootrom. By upgrading to a stock firmware, you made your phone unpwned, even if it had previously been pwned. Unfortunately, 3.1.3 also gets rid of the weakness in the 3.1.3 firmware's USB drivers which allowed the bootloader to be modified. Phones which have 3.1.3 can no longer be pwned, and can therefore no longer be jailbroken by PwnageTool.

Am I right that if I downgrade to 3.1.2 that I still keep the 5.12.1 firmware and therefore can JB though but not unlock my iphone?

Yes, basebands cannot be downgraded unless you have a very early 3G or a 2G iPhone. And the 5.12.01 baseband cannot be unlocked.

There are websites claiming that the NO SERVICE can be fixed by iRecovering the phone after downgrading and jailbraking, but this does not work for me. Is that because of the firmware version as well?

It is because your phone's baseband is locked.

This is an option as long as your phone was originally purchased from T-Mo Germany. T-Mo can only unlock phones they themselves sold.

As for whether you can jailbreak, that will depend on your phone's model and whether you have your SHSH on file. See this thread for more details. It should answer any remaining questions.

Give a religious man a phone, and he assumes God will be his tech support. Interesting thread...

I hope your prayers are answered.

First off, I'm not an expert, so any help would be great. I have a jailbroken 3G on at&t, still at 3.1. This weekend, I bought a 3GS shipped with 3.1.2 to share with a family member. I tried to use blackrain to jailbreak it (I had always used pwnage tool previously) and got to the DFU screen. I'm probably an idiot, but had no idea where to go from there. I then tried using pwnage tool (multiple times) but iTunes always got an error. It was getting late into the night, and my family member needed to have a working phone for the next day, so I sadly updated to 3.1.3. I realize that I can't do anything to jailbreak until an update comes out. HOWEVER, I can pay a restocking fee to at&t to try again with a new 3gs at 3.1.2. Since this is only $20 or so (and since I have too much pride to accept failure lol), I'm willing to do this, but only if I'm confident that I can successfully jailbreak this time. Like I said, I'm obviously not an expert, but I am quite cognizant of what I do and don't know, so I try to stay within my bounds. That being said, I never had any problem following the steps to jailbreak my 3g. If anybody would be willing to tell me where I went wrong and/or what I need to do to jailbreak (not concerned with unlocking) a newly shipped 3gs at 3.1.2, I'd really appreciate it.

P.S. I've thoroughly read dev team's blog and don't know where I went wrong. Since I didn't/don't know anything about blackrain, I'm assuming that's where I messed up. Thanks everyone.

Could you describe the "DFU screen" you say you were stuck at? Did it have anything on it? A apple-and-spinning wheel perhaps? I ask because I am guessing that you were not in DFU at all, but a boot loop because you had a tethered jailbreak.

If this is a case, if you had tried to re-run blackra1n your phone would have booted. PT threw an error because PT cannot be used to jailbreak such phones, only blackra1n or redsn0w.

Why would you take a perfectly good 3GS and try something you admittedly know nothing about ??

Since you updated to 3.1.3 and do not have your SHSH blobs saved, you cannot downgrade the phone or unlock it.

Read this thread... (except you didn't accidentally update, you forced yourself into updating) https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/861221/

Thank you for obviously not reading half of what I wrote.

Thank you for obviously not reading half of what I wrote.

I read every word you wrote. The 3G and 3GS are very much different, especially since you likely have the new bootrom which requires a tethered jailbreak.

Sorry, had you researched what you wanted to do, you likely would have been successful, hundreds of thousands of 3GS owners have JB and unlocked their phones (including me)

To be perfectly honest, I may have the wrong idea about what the "DFU screen" is. What came up was the screen that shows the USB and iTunes logos.

To advance my cause a bit, since I don't know anything about blackrain, if/when I get a different 3gs, I'd like to just stick with pwnage tool since I've used it multiple times. What I'm curious about is if that possibly didn't work because I tried blackrain first.

Well sorry to prejudge, but I clearly said that I know I can't jb the 3.1.3 phone, but I have the option to pay the restocking fee at the AT&T store and get a new phone at 3.1.2.

I did spend a good deal of time researching (on dev team's blog) as far as what I had to do differently from the 3g to the 3gs w/ new bootrom. My mistake was that I read a few things saying that blackrain was easier/faster/better and tried that without knowing much about it. In that regard, I agree, I screwed up. I appreciate any reply, but I'd prefer replies that can help me understand specifically where I went wrong, not ones that kick me while I'm down. (And I'm not really down. I still have a jb 3g that I'm happy with, and my family member has a perfectly working, albeit non-jb 3gs. I'd just prefer to jb both.)
