Thanks, I appreciate it. The biggest hurdle for me is that there is so much information out there and a lot of it seems to conflict. For instance, what the previous poster just wrote (post #90). That tells me I should just give up now. Then you give me this link, which leads to this, saying the exact opposite, but not mentioning newer bootroms. It seems overly difficult to find one place that addresses every concern. That's why I've always stuck to reading dev-team's blog, because it addresses every level of iphone in a coherent manner.

Advice, try to avoid listening to poster on post #90 :D

Well in addition to the snide comments, I'm glad you can guarantee that. Can you guarantee that every result in such a search will each give the same information? Because I guarantee not. You're right, the information I need will be there if I Google that or any other similar phrase, but it will be interspersed amongst misinformation that I may or may not be able to separate.

Yea, we could go on & on with this.

It works for most of us here, if it doesn't work for you, then OK.

Look at our join dates, just a few months before or after yours, yet we have a solid handle on these matters.

hello everyone. Yesterday i upgraded my iphone 3GS from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 because i erased all my iphone and settings and my iphone was stuck in the recovery mode. The only solution i found was to upgrade to 3.1.3 using apple server. Now i cannot use my carrier because my phone is not jailbroken. i searched a lot over internet. Can someone tell what is te exact release date for jailbreak for iphone 3gs 3.1.3(05.12.01)bootrom. And will there be any jailbreak for this base band or not. any one having some info be free to share thnx

Can the person who has the date for the next jailbreak give us the next lottery numbers aswell?

hi every one i was searching through the posts on mymodi.com and found this

http://modmyi.com/forums/unlocking-...ed-there-unlock-new-baseband-5-12-01-3gs.html

tthe guy has jailbroken his phone by downgrading.i need assistance plz.should i do it the latinist?

Its fake.
Its not possible at the moment no matter how much you search, look and hope.
It will be released by The Dev team or Geohot.
Dont get too excited with nonsense posts like that claiming that someone somehow did it.

i have one more question if i downgrade to 3.1.2(5.12.01) will i be able to jailbreak (not unlock) my phone.or it would be in the same state as it is in 3.1.3(5.12.01) neither jailbreak nor unlock.

can i have my phone officially unlocked by apple.if i take it to apple and say them that i want this to be unlocked by them.will they unlock it, or they only sell factory unlocked phones.

I have successfully upgraded my phone to 3.1.3 jailbroke it and carrier unlocked it, but it wasnt easy.

First I downloaded the 3.1.2 firmware from here

http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

Then I jailbroke and restoresd it with redsn0w.

I went to cydia and looked for a app called FuzzyBand and installed it and ran it. It will downgrade your modem firmware to 04.26.08 mine was 5.12.0 (I think).

Once Fuzzyband is install, you should be able to carrier unlock it with yellowsn0w (located in cydia under "sources").

This seems to only work with the earlier 3g models. Here's a screenshot:

I forgot to add that even thought you will be loaded the 3.1.2 firmware from redsn0w, you will still be on 3.1.3.
I hope this helps!

since you cant install cydia on 3.1.3 (5.12.01), because your phone should be jailbroken to install cydia so i think this post is fake. and 3gs cant be downgraded to 3.1.2.

This is an option as long as your phone was originally purchased from T-Mo Germany. T-Mo can only unlock phones they themselves sold.

As for whether you can jailbreak, that will depend on your phone's model and whether you have your SHSH on file. See this thread for more details. It should answer any remaining questions.

Thanks for your answer the Latinist! I've purchased the phone through T-Mo, so unlocking wouldn't be a problem. But what do they different from what we do? Isn't that a software unlock which can dissapear with an upgrade?
Why can't we do it the same as they do it?

Sorry my post isnt fake, Fuzzyband works on the first batch of phones and I bought mine the day that the 3g was released. And yes you can install cydia on 3.1.3 with pnwagetool 3.1.5 http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

Yea, fahdsaeed87 doesn't understand you have a 3G and not a 3GS.

And your downgrade of baseband method works fine for early 3G with 5.08 bootloader and Fuzzyband.

Why can't we do it the same as they do it?

The factory unlock is done by Apple upon carrier request. Each iPhone is a assigned a secret unlocking code at the factory, and Apple keeps a database of these codes. When a phone is requested to be unlocked by the carrier who sold it, Apple adds this information to its activation server. Any time you activate your phone (for instance, after a firmware upgrade), Apple will return the unlock code as part of the activation sequence. In this way a factory unlocked phone can be unlocked every time it is activated.

We can't spoof the Apple server because the unlock codes do not appear to be algorithmic. That is, there is no way to predict what a phone's unlock code will be based on serial number or IMEI or ECID or any other number we know. They appear to be randomly assigned. Therefore only Apple knows what your unlock code is, and there is no way to get your phone unlocked without your carrier requesting it.

you keep on saying me to sell my phone tell me will u buy a phone which cant be unlocked or jailbroken.no one will buy this.and about returning to apple thing is also just sh*t.if i take it to apple n ask them to give me a replacement they'll ask for a reason for replacement what should i tell them i can't jailbreak it huhh!!think before suggesting:(:(

Maybe you should just stop posting here if you don't like the advice you are getting. There is nothing else we can tell you. Your phone is locked and can't be unlocked or jailbroken. Your only choices are to wait and see if a jailbreak comes, or to sell your phone. True, demand for a locked phone is lower, but you still should be able to get $400-$500 for it.

Meanwhile, stop attacking us for giving our best advice to you. We didn't update your phone, you did.

Am I forced to upgrade to 3.1.3?

I've been on a tethered 3.1.2 jailbreak for a few months on a new bootrom 3GS and last night tried installing winterboard. I've crashed (known issue with winterboard - I should not have installed it) and cannot reboot through blackra1n (just goes to a blank/black screen). The Iphone is now stuck in recovery mode. Is there anything I can do to bypass booting with winterboard, or restore without upgrading to 3.1.3? Any way for me to SSH in to the phone while it is in recovery mode to fix the problem?

And to anticipate the question: I don't remember if I saved my ECID SHSH on file with the Cydia server, but all attempts to recover to 3.1.2 have so far given me a 16xx error in Itunes.

Thanks for any advice.

Try this incase you did save your SHSH's thru cydia.
For Mac:

For Windows:

so if i have a 3g that is upgraded to 3.1.3 I can follow chris blazes method and be able to unlock and jb? Is there a way to find out my boot version?

You can sell it. There are literally dozens of 3GS iPhones for sale on Ebay and Craigslist every day.

Not everyone wants or needs to jailbreak or unlock.

So give it a try, then buy one already JB on 3.1.2 with 4.26.xx or 5.11.xx baseband and immediately go to Cydia and save your SHSH before you mess it up.
