I am attempting to jailbreak the iPhone for one reason: Repair. I am a DIY technician and Apple needs to get slapped for continuing to prevent owners from repairing their own devices. If the earpiece/floodlight illuminator cable gets ripped, say goodbye to Face ID and True tone. Apple only allows the original sensor to pair to the device, so if it or the cable gets damaged, you're SOL, unless you want to pay Apple $100-$300 for repairs. This was the same with the home button with fingerprint reader.
Then I learned you can actually remove the floodlight illuminator off of the flex cable and attach it to a new one... That is of course if you know how to MICRO-SOLDER, and have the proper equipment to do so. The piece is smaller than the smallest button on your remote control, yet has 16 solder connection points, and they have to align perfectly as to avoid creating a bridge between multiple contact points. I was successful on one phone, but failed on another - both were XS Max models.
Alas, a company - JCID - has developed tools capable of pairing a brand new floodlight illuminator which will restore both FACE ID and True tone, among other repairs. However, the device(s) require that the iPhone be jailbroken and will not be able to bind the new parts to the phone without access to the root. Unfortunately, the phone I'm trying to repair and sell is on iOS 15.1, running the A12 chip, for which there is currently no successful jailbreak available for. The flex cable is only $10 max anywhere, and yet I either have to sell the phone for over $150 less than its value because of the inoperable features, or wait who knows how long before I can jailbreak it and repair it - all because Apple has control issues and are greedy.
I wrote this long response for those who believe that everyone that wants to jailbreak their phone only wants to do so in order to download a few fancy apps. I haven't jailbroken an iPhone since the very first model came out, around 2006, after seeing that Apple was willing to upgrade their devices with features that people want. Some people need to do so to get around the company's refusal to let us actually own our property once we have paid for it, and apply limitations that require us to send our phones back to them. It's ridiculous.
I hope someone finds this response useful. LET'S GO CHEYOTE!!!
PS - for those that insist on saying "just get an android" - that statement shows just how ignorant you are, period. There are so many points wrong with that statement, that I won't attempt to get into them all. What I will say is first off, Android is an operating system, not a phone, and they are applied to many non-iOS phones, from the cheap government ones, all the way up to the $2,000+ Samsungs and Pixels and what-not. There are also about 1,000 different versions of Android, which means you don't get consistency with the OS across devices, even if it's the same brand phone. Secondly and most importantly, every device is a preference choice. NO ONE BRAND IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER, BECAUSE "BETTER" IS A TERM OF RELEVANCE. People go for what features most attract them to the device. It's as simple as that. There is no company that will 100% appease all of its customers. I like the iPhone because it's features overall suit my needs. There are some things I like better about Android's OS, but I overall prefer iOS. I don't dislike Android however, and would not instantly suggest that the fix to a disliked feature is to switch to iPhone. This war between the devices is just outright ridiculous. I'm not going to trade my Lexus in for a Nissan just because I'm having a few preference issues with the Lexus.
