I actually LIKE the chatheads. The only problem is, I don't really Facebook chat much, so it's not much use for me.

But as a design it's quite amazing. If Apple stole this idea for iMessage it would be something I'd praise.

So,

Design = Very nice, Facebook
Facebook Messages themselves = meh

I think this pretty much sums up how I feel about it as well. If I were back in my college days and I actually used fb to talk to people, I would like this. But I just do. not. use. fb chat. Apple should totally integrate chatheads into iOS. But if they do, then they would need to do a partnership with facebook and likely integrate fb chat into iMessage (similar to how windows phone works). Which I don't really have a problem with. I just want to get a hold of the person. I don't really care if the medium used is text, iMessage, fb chat, hell even AIM (is that still around?)! I just want to talk to a person. And I agree that the chathead concept is pretty slick.

I'll probably rejailbreak my phone soon and try it out. I've been meaning to jailbreak again for a while now...

I find it amazing that on almost every video presentation of something on iPhone there will be a ridiculous number of unanswered calls, unread text messages or unread emails. Do these guys use the phone?
Lol... this bothers me too. They're the type of friends that don't text you back for a month. :D

No thanks. I'm trying to distance myself from Facebook.
Why... are you addicted to it like alcohol?

cool just in time for CISPA to pass ...
here FB have my location info along with all my personal info

Apple should just officially allow Jailbreaking, just not support the results. Just make it a simple switch in iOS, just make sure customers know when they allow this, they are on their own and they won't be eligible for SW support.

If Apple did this, the normal consumer who likes the controlled environment can have it and the people who want to customize can have that too.

Anyway... sort of off topic, but seems like it would help Apple combat some of the Anti-Apple rants if this was allowed.

It's a good idea in theory, but I see people jailbreaking because they see their techy friends doing cool things. Then they "break" their phone and blame it all on apple.

Apple doesn't care if you jailbreak, just as long as you know it voids your warranty.

No, most of the Verge staff are a bunch of hipster doofuses.

Scoff all you want, but I predict widespread adoption in the 12-year old female jailbreak community.

I just want a messaging app that integrates all my messaging services in one place - like iChat in OSX.

I should be able to message someone and regardless of what platform they are signed into (iMessage/Facebook/gChat/AIM/ect.) the message goes to them and their reply goes to one place.

Shouldn't have to have a FB messaging app, a google talk app, an iMessage/texting app, an AIM app.
Just put iChat on the iPhone and be done with it!!!!!

I like chatheads overall but there's 2 things I don't like: I have to perform an extra action to move the chatheads out of the way to read a post on Facebook and simply Facebook chat is not iMessage/carrierSMS which I think more people would pay attention to than fb msg notifications

Do people actually use facebook chat?

Fair enough, guess this might be kinda handy for those who do...

I like the idea of chat heads, I think the actual design and implementation itself is excellent (seeing as former talented Apple blood helped design it, should be expected).

However, I would like to see Apple come up with their own implementation for the messages app. Maybe not necessarily a persistent chat bubble that displays above every app, but at least the ability to open and reply to a message without having to open the messages app. There are a lot of jailbreak tweaks for this, so its clearly a desired feature.

Especially on the iPad. There are instances when I'm watching a video and I don't want the video to stop playing (at the least so I can still hear the audio running), so instead of replying on my iPad I just pick up my phone and reply. Would be great if a little chat window just popped up and I could type a quick reply.

Chat heads are a horrible idea. It wouldn't matter if Apple came out with it i'd still dislike it. It looks so bad because it doesn't fit with the interface it's just a floating circle. The best idea for a shortcut to messages was seen in the recent iOS 7 concept video. I'm probably not the target market but non the less, the target market needs to demand better design.
