But it DOESN'T do that. SMS/MMS is still handled by the stock messaging app, the FB app only acts as a front end display. FB DOES NOT SEE SMS EVEN THOUGH I USE THE APP FOR MESSAGE HANDLING.

How do I know this? Simple. People I SMS with - those conversations appear in my stock messaging app. They DO NOT appear in my FB conversations. Same goes for FB messaging. These only appear in FB messenger and not my SMS app.
Just because FB does not display/store them with your FB conversations, it does not mean that they are not forwarding them to their servers before forwarding them onto your SMS app.

It doesn't.
Decompile the FB messenger app.
Open up the com.facebook.orca-2.apk and look at how SMS/MMS messages are handled.
The data is pushed through the stock messaging app. The data is stored in com.android.mms and com.android.smspush.
None of it is sent to FB.

You can also make VOIP calls using this app.
THAT data is sent through FB servers.

Do people think they are going to get an award for not using facebook or something? They seem very proud of the fact and like to tell everyone all the time.

I only use facebook chat occasionally but I would use it more with something like this.

Great... Can't some hackers get going on a jailbreak to remove HDCP from the Apple TV so law-abiding users with TVs that aren't brand-new can actually watch the stuff they paid for?

I don't really want to use FB Messenger for anything but I like the idea of having a little more activity and options on the home screen. Open this up the iMessage or other Apps or folders or something...

Don't care about chat heads, but every time I read the words "chat heads", I think of "catheads" (as in biscuits) and I get really hungry, and I miss the Little Red Barn. :(

Apple should just officially allow Jailbreaking, just not support the results. Just make it a simple switch in iOS, just make sure customers know when they allow this, they are on their own and they won't be eligible for SW support.

If Apple did this, the normal consumer who likes the controlled environment can have it and the people who want to customize can have that too.

Anyway... sort of off topic, but seems like it would help Apple combat some of the Anti-Apple rants if this was allowed.

But Apple couldn't care less about random people having anti-apple rants on MacRumors.

Having used this "feature" on the iOS Facebook app, I can honestly say I would not want these heads hovering on other apps...very gimmicky...

What happened to texting? Has it been replaced by FaceBook Messaging?

Yep, don't nobody got time for texting anymore. Good riddance, too.

They probably have no friends and want to spin it to make themselves seem cool.

Case in point:

There is absolutely nothing compelling about this.

However, I wouldn't mind that when I get a Notification for a text message, I can reply right there and not have to leave my current app. Hopefully iOS 7 brings more convenience features like that.

"This looks totally pointless, except for the fact that it looks useful."

You guys are hilarious.

Convenience features like that are, in my opinion, the most significant difference between iOS and Android. The minute iOS gets a massive feature overhaul to catch up with Android is the minute I switch back to the iPhone - I honestly can't wait.

Again in my opinion, iOS 6 is to Android 4.2 what the Nokia N95 software was to the iPhone 3G (iOS 2.0). It's a shame; I want-to-want an iPhone again.

Not trolling, simply bored of having a relatively naff looking S3 that offers so much more than an awesome looking iPhone 5. Chat Heads is just another example...they're so useful on Android.

Apple probably thinks these are cute and will work on an API for sticky messaging that apps/services such as Facebook can tap into.

But, aS it is, you get messages from friends anyway via Notifications and there isn't much difference that I can see between swiping over to chat with a friend and swiping back or tapping on a chathead to chat and then tapping again to make the conversation disappear.

Tapping might be faster, but you also have to have the Chatheads taking up your screen real estate. A tradeoff.

Still seems like Apple will incorporate the nuance of this into iOS eventually in the form of an API or something.

I find it amazing that on almost every video presentation of something on iPhone there will be a ridiculous number of unanswered calls, unread text messages or unread emails. Do these guys use the phone?
They're probably too busy developing their app.

Venn Diagrams

The intersection of the set of people who live for Facebook and the set of people capable or willing to jailbreak their iPhone is a very small.

Hardly. It only ever comes up in a conversation about Facebook, where people assume you must be on it.

Case in point:

Yep, don't nobody got time for texting anymore. Good riddance, too.

You're your own example. No wonder people keep telling you they're not on Facebook - you assume they are, that nobody (i.e.: 100%) uses texting. Incorrect. Which I explain to you quite simply by saying, your statement is nonsense - I am not on Facebook. And the reason they tell you in that tone is because you behave like this:

They probably have no friends and want to spin it to make themselves seem cool.

So, again, you appear to be the problem.
