There is absolutely nothing compelling about this.

However, I wouldn't mind that when I get a Notification for a text message, I can reply right there and not have to leave my current app. Hopefully iOS 7 brings more convenience features like that.

For everyone posting that they don't use FB chat that often.. stop..

It's meant to be (and is enabled in the Android version at least) to be integrated with SMS/MMS and Facebook chat. Therefore, it becomes an all in one chat messenger for FB and SMS.

Is it really THAT hard to have all these things nestled as a seperate app on a phone? We already have push notifications that rise to the top...it's not like you have to totally stop what you're doing, get in the car and drive 10 minutes in order to respond to a chat, e-mail or tweet.

There is no real innovation here. Facebook is just doing something different to appear to have growth. They're throwing things against the wall. It's like BMW screwing up their trunk lids or modifying the shape of their headlights—for no other reason but to be "different". To be something other than it was previously.

To each his/her own... I accidentally ran into this feature in the new iOS Facebook app, and it annoyed me. It was just like pop-up ads. All it really did was block content.

The headers are so small, i can't see how it blocks the content! Personally I find it quite a useful feature.

What happened to texting? Has it been replaced by FaceBook Messaging?

Welcome to 2013.

The app also handles SMS in Android - the only reason I use it. The Android version of Chat Heads is basically an awesome SMS application, with Facebook colours around it. Can't fault it; it's like "Messages" on iOS or Android, but with excellent multi-tasking capabilities, and with the added ability to Facebook message inside the same app.

Perhaps someone, somewhere can work out the last missing piece of functionality for the Jailbreak community?!

I have to say that this functionality for SMS would be a welcome addition to my iPhone.

Apple should just officially allow Jailbreaking, just not support the results. Just make it a simple switch in iOS, just make sure customers know when they allow this, they are on their own and they won't be eligible for SW support.

If Apple did this, the normal consumer who likes the controlled environment can have it and the people who want to customize can have that too.

Anyway... sort of off topic, but seems like it would help Apple combat some of the Anti-Apple rants if this was allowed.

If they allow it they would have to support the mess that can result. Probably all kinds of legal problems if it becomes officially allowed. Plus Apple base their whole ecosystem on the walled garden so its never going to happen.

No wonder Apple doesn't have any features on their phones...no one here wants anything.
No matter what gets released on Android and isn't available on Apple is "useless" or they won't use it or it isn't for them.
No wonder why Android is so ahead of Apple nowadays.

What really sucks is that there are so many ways to "chat" to people that chances are one of those methods will suck. Say you install Chatheads but people will still insist on Skyping you. Then you get used to Skype but many will insist on having long conversations by SMS. Others will always email you.

I think chats should somehow be unified, and iOS could have a "buddy list" of sorts that could be quickly accessible, and it would combine conversations from iMessage, SMS, email, Skype, Facebook, etc… in one interface, instead of having 10 different interfaces just for chatting to people.

Seeing these hacks just shows how much more iOS would be capable of if Apple would drop their insisting control of the entire user experience.

It really should be user choice. If a user wants the stock Apple experience, they can have it! But if they want to do other nifty things, they should be able to.

Apple should rethink their strategy.

For me personally, that's the problem with it.

Granted, I'm sure Facebook would just love to have all my private text message conversations pass through their servers to be mined for personal data, but I prefer to send my messages through a conduit hosted by a company which doesn't have quite those particular business interests.

Well, that just like, your opinion, man. :)

But it DOESN'T do that. SMS/MMS is still handled by the stock messaging app, the FB app only acts as a front end display. FB DOES NOT SEE SMS EVEN THOUGH I USE THE APP FOR MESSAGE HANDLING.

How do I know this? Simple. People I SMS with - those conversations appear in my stock messaging app. They DO NOT appear in my FB conversations. Same goes for FB messaging. These only appear in FB messenger and not my SMS app.

I stumbled over a chair, two cats and my shoe lace to get here and say how I think this is utter useless.

Kudos to the JB community for, again, giving us choices where Apple won't. I have a couple FB accounts and really, have no use for any of them, but...

... choice is good.

This is so grotesque. It makes me cringe just to look at it.

I'm sure it won't be long till Google fights back against this land grab on the part of Facebook.

This is like a restaurant paying a lot of money to renovate a district, pave roads, put up lights. Then when business gets good a food truck rolls in and sets up shop outside the front door blocking access to the restaurant.

Is Chat Heads that cool? I saw it on the announcement and use it once in the app. IT SUCKS! I don't want that ugly bubble in my iPhone all the time! OMG

What if everybody you know is actually a ****head?
