No thanks! I don't use facebook anymore! I think social networking, as we know it, is getting out of fashion anyway.

I'd like to see closer integration between messages and facetime though. There is no real reason why they should be seperate apps. Some of the old ichat video filters whould be cool too... :apple:

Hardly. It only ever comes up in a conversation about Facebook, where people assume you must be on it.

Case in point:

You're your own example. No wonder people keep telling you they're not on Facebook - you assume they are, that nobody (i.e.: 100%) uses texting. Incorrect. Which I explain to you quite simply by saying, your statement is nonsense - I am not on Facebook. And the reason they tell you in that tone is because you behave like this:

So, again, you appear to be the problem.

What are you blabbering about, man?

Nobody told me anything, I'm talking about the nerds on the net who rail against Facebook, or have to qualify every discussion they have about FB with, "not that I'm on Facebook."

Look, I don't mind if people don't use FB. But it probably just means that you're: a) old, b) strange, c) trying to make a childish statement, d) live in Somalia, or e) have no friends.

It would be nice for iMessage, but I don't even like Facebook chat while in Facebook, much less outside of it.

Agreed. My circle of friends is either content with standard texting or uninterested in throwing everything through FB (or probably some combination of the two)

----------

The intersection of the set of people who live for Facebook and the set of people capable or willing to jailbreak their iPhone is a very small.

ca 2005: The intersection of the set of people who own a PDA, iPod, digital camera, and cell phone is very small. No way they should do an iPhone.

How many is enough for you? Apple has been a success because they haven't waited for everyone to demand something.

I have an SIII and I hate the stupid chat heads. I wish I backed up the previous facebook messenger so I could restore it.

Do you think of "old" friends as people you knew last year?

Does the random LF and capitalized C make it somehow more important?

No. These friends I made ten years ago. I post 90% from my phone, and sometimes there are typos. Sorry they bothered you so. I suggest you put me on ignore if you can't handle it. I will try hard, just for you, for them not to show up, but I cannot promise anything.

Brilliant work on the part of Bell. Just shows what a determined person can do.
I wonder what tools he used to decode the binaries.

Anybody know?

I thought y'all children wanted options? But it's not ok to not like this one? See, that's also an option.

Do you ever actually know what you say/type? Say your first line to a mirror, maybe it will help.

You move them somewhere else.

They're not intended to be there 100% of the time...only when you're deep in a conversation with someone. Whatever annoyance a floating ball gives you, it's MUCH less annoying than switching between entire apps every 5 seconds.

It's a solution for a particular situation, and it's perfect at that specific job.

So, how do you get rid of them from inside the Facebook app? A friend pinged me with a quick note, and now his profile photo is sitting there all the time.

Oh okay. It's just, the features you, and the person whom I was replying to, are looking for are available on Android. Evidently your brand loyalty outweighs your desire for functionality.

:apple: 4 life.

You're missing the point... Most people here just want better iphones. Further still, most Apple users are already heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem through purchasing hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of Apps and Content. Why on earth would they want to throw away all that and switch to a completely incompatible system like Google's Android???

I understand your point, in fact, I agree with your point - I've posted in here or another thread recently that I wish I could want an iPhone again. All of my computer/tablet products are Apple, bar an Android phone; 2 iMacs, MacBook Pro, iPad, my previous iPhone 4 and a Samsung S3.

I would add, however, that Android is not incompatible with Apple products/services. If I buy a song from iTunes on my iPad, it appears on my S3 without any manual effort, same goes for calendar/contact integration via iCloud. I don't use Photostream, so can't comment on that. Sure, it's not natively compatible, but only a few taps in the Play Store can get you up and running for good.

I am one of those people you refer to, I want a better iPhone - more specifically, a better iOS. Android is just ahead at the moment, plain and simple. But, iPhones look nicer and work better with [my] other Apple products. If only you could install safely Android on an iPhone!

Nice try, but I never derided anyone's options. What I was talking about was the likely source of the tech nerds' militant anti-FB stance.

Doesn't tapping the top-bar notification accomplish the same?

And why is that exactly?

I don't want to get into a pointless Android vs. iOS argument so we'll say our pieces, respect opinions, and leave it there. The answer is subjective, some like a more functional OS, some prefer an simpler OS. I prefer the former for my phone, the latter for my tablet.

The features you and others in this thread 'wish' for are already available on Android. The ability to enjoy services like Chat Heads with SMS messages, the ability to sync with Google, Apple or other services, the ability to completely customise the UI of the device around your needs, better multi-tasking for apps that support it, etc..

Android offers more choice, and because of that, 'nice-to-have' features are readily available. It provides users the option to take their device to the next level, personal to them - since 'better' is always subjective.

In my opinion, and from a purely functional perspective, Android as a mobile OS holds the crown right now. I'm not arguing that Android is the right choice for everyone. I'm not that guy. What I find hard to understand is when people on MR post 'wishes' for iOS that already exist on Android - brand loyalty is having a negative affect on their personal satisfaction from, let's face it, not-so-minor investments. Their vision of Android is frozen in the year 2010 (Gingerbread).

While I didn't like Facebook Home when I tried it, I do like the chat heads and wouldn't mind them making their way to iOS.

Same here! When I'm in the FB app I love the chat heads. It makes chatting while in FB much easier/fluid and...I actually use the chat. I didn't before. I might use the chat heads to connect with people if I could use this tweak, because without it, you still have to open FB. But it's an improvement. The latest FB update to their app was the best yet, IMO.

It's actually annoying, to be honest....pretty gimmicky so far...

I'm wavering between liking them and not on the FB app. It does make it easy to send quick messages and go back to looking at something else, the but the iPhone doesn't have enough screen space for chatheads sometimes. Seems like they would be much nicer on an iPad.

I think they are much more convenient if they can be used anywhere in the OS, then you could continue chatting on iOS while in your e-mail, looking something up, etc.

Or we have friends that we actually see and talk to in person...

Or we just prefer other Social Media...

And what about the friends you don't get to see in person much, or at all? You could e-mail, but it's less interactive. Or you could call, but nobody likes to talk on the phone anymore. I guess you could send a letter in the mail, but I've always reserved that for my grandmother and for when my GF and I lived apart.

And pfft, nobody prefers Google+ or Twitter. The G+ website runs like a one-armed man swimming in maple syrup compared to FB's site. And Twitter? Give me a break, it's still awful.
