You couldn't pay me to use this. Fine within Facebook app. No way do I want that to be a theme.

For those of you who have never used it, I would suggest trying it out on an android device before casting a final judgement.

I use chatheads on my Note 2 for SMS and it's actually really awesome. I rarely have any bubbles that persist on my screen because I swipe them away as soon as I can. However, when you are doing lots of multitasking, I can't think of a faster way of carrying multiple conversations while simultaneously performing some other tasks. I'd love to see it working the same on my iPhone.

Damn shame the potential apple has with their phone but its locked to all hell. Jailbreak is needed to make it shine. Not so much with chat heads cause they are dumb, but in general.

The real question is... Why would you want this?!

A bunch of my old
College friends have a chat room in Facebook that would be really convenient to just pop open. It's basically our way of texting each other, sending pics back and forth, etc.

I'm sure it's not for everyone, but I bet plenty of people can find a use for it.

Does this mean

that we can't un-jailbreak? Gee, chatting with several friends at the same time as doing three other things. You dont do that after the age of 23, do you?

it's nice here to say "no thanks" as in we don't need it...

you are delusional... we need new stuff like this I'm getting tired of the iOS lack of new features

...Yeah I'll stick to AIM (because it's the best) and Facebook chat (because some of my friends use it) in iChat. Much nicer.

If they did this in iOS 7, I'd not upgrade, simple as that. You are the kind of people companies end up in a ditch listening to. Imagine what the iPhone would be like if Apple listened. It would have a @#$%ing stylus.

----------

What happened to texting? Has it been replaced by FaceBook Messaging?

Hey, don't complain. At least it's free and not a gigantic scam!

Neat hack.

Petty there is no way to extract the layer out of the app entirely. It would be better. That way there'd be no need to have a transparent app running to do this.

(you could also say "I'm getting tired of IOS hacks" too)

I often wonder what runs though Facebook & Apples minds when they do this... Do you think they actually have 'no clue" going through the developers heads that at the time of "our code is strong, no one will hack this".

Personally, maybe if they actually knew this while hey are doing it, then it wouldn't be such a large reaction when they do actually find out.

I mean, its only "code"

To each his own, but that video is a great demonstration of why I think Chatheads is a really bad idea.

I have the same feeling about this as when people show me their their jailbroken iPhone and brags about how they can customize everything, whereas I'm locked into the same dull old experience. And then their "customized" UI looks like the pixelmonster threw up on it. I'll take the dull, but pretty and functional one please.

Why wouldn't you just use SMS to contact ppl? I have group chats with all my buddies or just txt them individually if I want. If ppl message me through Facebook I usually just tell them to txt me. And emojis are way better than those giant heads.

I find it amazing that on almost every video presentation of something on iPhone there will be a ridiculous number of unanswered calls, unread text messages or unread emails. Do these guys use the phone?

These phones tend to be for dev purposes and not the users personal units. We have a few in the office and most emails etc are from testing activities.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Facebook actually helped him out on this one.

Anyway, there are several reasons why a company wouldn't just throw their hands in the air and let everyone do what they like with their software. The fact that it's still possible to break in, doesn't mean you shouldn't lock the door when you leave the house. First there's security. Every reasonably sane techie knows that Apple's closed system is what makes it the safest. But there's also a question of intellectual rights. If you just created this great idea with a great design, you probably want to make money off it, not see every other smart-ass teen create their own (usually poor) copy of it. There are very few people in the world who ACTUALLY want their designs in the hands of every single person on earth, if they don't see a dime for it, at least down the road.

Partly related to this, Apple don't want Facebook and Google taking over too much of the basics of the ecosystem, which makes perfect sense. If not to actually make money on it (I don't believe Apple makes money on iMessage directly), then at least to make sure that your competitor doesn't make too much money off YOU.

I'd rather throw my phone on cement and then drive a truck over it.

Or just don't install it ;)

That's crazy talk!

On MR people auto react to posts containing words such as Microsoft , Samsung, Facebook.... And just bag the hell out of whatever "X" More then enough comments on here to prove my point.

In regards to this functionality , most people's dislike of Facebook , impairs their judgement of the design of this software. If apple released it, it would be amazing ;).

Yeah, the problem with the world today is people tend to generalize too much.

If Apple accept this then they have to accept it for all developers and i don't want the screen full of things bouncing....

Or just don't install it or activate that function? It's not like it would be forced features on every iPhone.

----------

so that's one more reason not to jailbreak then

I'm pretty sure this isn't a forced feature if you jailbreak, it's an option. It still surprises me how long time iOS users can't grasp the concept of "option", that everything isn't just forced upon you (even though some things are in iOS).
