Has there ever been attempts to make a true Object-Orientated 64-bit Kernel?

Probably not, since the object-oriented (and microkernel) 32-bit kernels proved to be pigs. I don't think that any company repeated the mistake for 64-bit kernels.

True OO is good for lightweight application code - where programmer productivity is more important than performance.

For OS or even RTL code - if performance is important you don't run everything in a managed OO environment. (I realize that I'm mixing OO and "managed" - but that's the reality of many OO environments.)

^ lol

Also, why bash Fox News so much? The point of this thread is to talk about the media event.

This thread proves that most Apple users are liberals.

Thankfully, I can justify my purchase by saying that Rush Limbaugh loves Macs.

Yeah, I don't understand the Fox News bashing in this thread, but that is how some people roll.

I'm not sure how much it proves anything. I justify my purchase by thinking of Al Gore naked in a dark lit room holding a candlestick and reading an article about Steve Jobs.

Candle flame contributes to global warming. Al Gore reads magazine articles in pure darkness by holding the paper to his forehead and intuiting the words by the sheer power of his mind. ;)

Who cares.

Where is a refreshed, faster, cheaper, new/better design case Mac Pro? For that matter, why doesn't Apple announce when they are going to fix the iMac 27" issues?
I don't think you'll get Apple to acknowledge any issues with the iMacs, rather fix it silently. And what is wrong with the current case? Tell me one thing you would like changed about it? They shouldn't redesign it just for the sake of doing so. If there are some specific issues... fine. But there aren't.
It seems like it is time for iLife and iWork to become 64-bit because Snow Leopard was released. However, if they make it 64-bit, they would have to end Leopard support or make two versions

I don't see that happening with the iLife '10 suite. Sometime in September when iTunes 10/X is released.
Leopard can support 64 bit Apps, in fact, so can Tiger...
Any app that works under snow leopard works under leopard, albeit it would probably perform better on SL...

Agreed - the Mac Pro is a design classic that will still look great 20 years from now. Ditto the MacBook Pros.

I like that Apple gives its designs some longevity. Unlike the Dells of the world that feel compelled to release a collection of new (mundane) designs every six months. My hell job would be an industrial designer for Dell.

"OK people, it's time for our six-month refresh. We need four new laptop designs, three new desktop designs, and something in a Mac mini form factor. I'm thinking zebra stripes this time. And maybe some shinier plastic. Let's move, people!"

Photoshop Palette

I'm hoping for a vector program that combines illustrator, indesign, freehand, etc....into one simple program. Adobe suite is way overpriced and desperately needs competition.
If Adobe embrace this new for factor then it will be exciting to see more productivity enabled Apps.

Adobe have the very lite version of Photoshop for the iPhone/iPod Touch at present.
The new tablet, with MUCH more real estate will allow them to expand on the current offerings and gear it towards a palette style interpretation for the interface, could be a great app adaptation.
If their Illustrator and Premier are migrated as well then we could see some great multi-media content outing from the tablet in future.

So if you bought a computer within the last two months, and there is a new iLife ,what will I expect to pay to upgrade it? Those of you that have been through this before probably know. I'm new to all of this.

This thread proves that most Apple users are liberals.

Correction: This thread proves that most Macrumors members are liberals. Though what you said is true (liberals are richer, and can therefore more readily afford Macs).

As for the event, all I want is updated Macbooks and MBPs' (though I only expect the latter). And as for OS 4.0, do we have any idea of its features?

Is it me, or does it seem that this event has been one of the best kept secrets? I mean there are no serious leaks about iPhone OS 4.0, nor the tablet. Kinda disappointing :)

I would be happy if they re-issued the 12 inch aluminum powerbook with updated hardware. :D my favorite macproduct

Though what you said is true (liberals are richer, and can therefore more readily afford Macs).

Most liberals I'm aware of are just waiting for their weekly delivery of government cheese. I think the liberals you're referring to are the upper crust of the liberal pie - the elites who tell the rest of the liberals what to do (and how to vote). ;)

Oops, I just got sucked into political commentary. My bad. Back to the great ChupaTablet (or is it TabletCabra?) discussion! :D

I was just thinking the same thing. I think we will slowly get more details as the week goes on though.

Have you looked inside a MacPro lately? It's the freshest, newest, best case design on the planet. The outside looks pretty sharp too. GMAB.

lets say the new MBP revision hits what does apple clearance the old MBP down to. Are they priced less than refurbished ones or about the same?

Yeah, I do wish all the libs that think we aren't paying enough in taxes already would go ahead and buy PCs, then send the difference to the us govt every year.

Obviously, this is a controlled leak by Apple to make sure journalist butts are in seats next Wednesday.

At this point I don't think Apple needs any more controlled leaks. There is already a huge amount of interest in Apple's take on the tablet.

Apple's problem now is not filling seats, but managing expectations. Short of curing cancer or landing on the moon nothing Apple announces next week can possibly live up to this level of hype.

Everyone is expecting Apple to reveal a device that is at least as ground breaking as the iPhone was when it was first revealed. But at the time, no one thought the iPhone would be as revolutionary as it was. Now everyone expects to be blown away by the iSlate.

I doubt we'll see anything iPhone. I think iphone 4 will be like iphone 2. Majorly different from previous versions. Apple has alot of catching up to do with Android. I think that the tablet will be big, and iPhone 4g will be big, so they will both have separate events. Plus I dont expect apple will demo half a phone. Especially with all the rumored hardware enhancements. I think iLife is logical if it involves the tablet.

Unless of course the tablet runs iPhone OS 4.0. I suspect they'll demo the OS, and say, and of course, most of these features are coming to the iPhone soon...

No new iPhone hardware though - that'll come later.

I hope the next iLife drops PPC and Leopard support. If Leopard is good enough for you, then so is iLife 09. In the future, the updates should be SL only and 64 bit.

Nah, too many people are still on Leopard. I am, for instance. Anything pre-Leopard, and of course PPC, should of course be dropped.

I'm more tempted to wrap up OO OS kernel fail to the fact the only real true one (100% OO) was whipped together by Illionis University Students. (Choices OS)

Microkernel, the features it has are already implemented in most modern kernels or not needed. The best one IMO is Minix and that is blown out of the water by even Darwin OS. (A Hybrid Kernel which lacks basic modern Unix features like Jails)

Surprisingly NTFS and Linux are quite comparable. It's hard to draw a line to which one is better.

True OO is good for lightweight application code - where programmer productivity is more important than performance.

For OS or even RTL code - if performance is important you don't run everything in a managed OO environment. (I realize that I'm mixing OO and "managed" - but that's the reality of many OO environments.)

The speed of OO vs Managed vs Procedural is debated often and is never been conclusively proven, but the speed of a language is usually up to the knitty gritty.
