dam that's a huge file, its gonna take me about 20+ mins. to download 😱

Not to make you feel bad, but it was a 93 seconds download here. You should look into a cable modem or DSL. I saw that SBC is having a promotion now for $14.95 a month for the first year.

Just downloaded now. Restart not required it seems. Java updates usually require a restart I thought...
i was thnking that too. Which brings me to a point, why does it seems that apple do introduce more restarts as the OS matures? The longer i been on OS X the more restarts there appears to be... perhaps its just my imagination tho...

2 mins 15 secs here. Not to rub it in but my ADSL finally got updated today - only 6 months after they initially said they would! 😉

what exactly would this update fix?

Where is Java 1.5? What is taking so long?

There is a working beta of Java 1.5 through the ADC (strangely only the API documentation is available through ADC) - You should be able to download it from here http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java2se50release1.html (I certainly have had a working version for over a month and have already built some .jars with 1.5 through Eclipse).

I got it in 94 seconds. High speed internet is the only way to go although I think it still has MAJOR room for improvement. Anyway, nice but like many waiting for 10.4.3. Please hurry Apple.

Why is it that people are so sensitive to whether or not a restart is required? I've always wondered because people around here make the biggest deal about it. And I guess if it is a big deal, I'd like be in on it too!

Please forgive my ignorance, but why are versions 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 bundled together? If we have 1.4.2, why do we need version 1.3.1? (On Tiger, for example). Thanks.

There is a final Java 1.5 release available here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java2se50release1.html

It was released on the same day as Mac OS X Tiger if I remember correctly.
