In order to get a replacement phone within the 14 day period, is Apple making you guys send in your defective phones first before sending a replacement? I have issues with mine, but they told me in order to receive a replacement, I have to send in mine first. Which obviously if I do, I'll be with out a phone for weeks!

If you want the ability to receive the replacement before sending your current iPhone back, then get AC+ which offers this service as Express Replacement.

Haha - don't set your standards too high, my new one isn't *flawless* - it still has it very very slightly down the sides - but it's a thousand times better than my original.

Exchanged and yes the new one is much better than previous. It is also a week 41 model.

Good stuff! I guess yours is probably like mine - if you really really try you can see evidence of the start of the issue, but it's practically invisible and clearly is a process that has been refined since the earlier batches.

Also my new one doesn't hiss. My old one whined like a dial-up modem, so much so that it was interfering with phone calls.

New one is as close to perfect as I can ask for, to be honest.

It does depress me somewhat though that standards seem to be slipping. The chatter marks should never have been a thing, nor the hissing. And all Jet Black Pluses I've seen - and I've seen a lot - have the Lightning socket sticking out from the device just a fraction of a millimetre. These are all things that shouldn't happen, in my opinion - especially when Apple boasts of 10 micron tolerances in their manufacturing.

I'm struggling to see any sign of the "track pattern" the one before had so must have been an issue they were aware of.

Which brings me to your last point, if they are aware of it to the point where they have almost completely eradicated it then why were they happy to send it out? I'm guessing it's just down to supply and demand and getting it out the door to complete orders.

Just got mine yesterday and it has this problem. I'll let it be for now until there is more stock somewhere down the line!

weird thing.

I have taken my fingernail along the edge of the phone where this issue is, almost like i'm trying to scratch it and it appears that it is getting rid of it. I have also used one of those thin plastic screen protector covers and got it in-between the metal housing and the screen and moved it along the surrounding edge of the phone to see if that makes a difference and somehow now it looks much, much better.

I don't know how but something is working here. It's almost not worth me sending this one off for another replacement. Also to note none of the paint work has come off using this method and I haven't produced any scratches doing this.

I wish I had a before and after picture to show!

Might be left over glue.

For the second part, what was the issue before you decided to stick a plastic between the screen and metal housing?

First part, I never used force before, but I could definitely feel the waves on my previous phone. Did you manage to completely get it out?

Weird that you say that. I thought the issue was bad when I first received mine, now it appears it's almost not even there.

Got my third replacement today. Week 40. Zero issues. Finally! Got sent a free leather case for my troubles too ;).

Opened my JB 128 last night and the upper bezel has this issue plus there's a tiny white mark right where the glass meets the casing.

Booked an appointment at my local store but came across this thread. Called apple this morning and was told they'd send out a new replacement provided I place a hold on my credit card. No problem. They said it would be a retail phone with accessories and I was to send back only the phone to them. They sent me an email which would provide me with steps on how to do this. Got the email, filled in my information and on the last step it kept on failing.

Called apple again and got a manager. She couldn't figure out the problem so cancelled the return and set up another. Again she said I would be getting a retail box and to only return the phone.

Now I wait. My question is about the retail box. Seems like everyone is getting white box replacements. I even asked the manager if I'd be getting a white box and she said no retail. Should I be expecting a white box?

Also just for reference my phone is a week 38.

For those that care I got my replacement last night. Ended up being a white box (that sort of bugs me as I was promised a retail replacement to the point of them even saying I should keep all my accessories and just send the phone back).

Regardless, for those of you who don't think this issue exists (I was one of you), it really does exist. My "new" one is a week 42 and there are zero signs of machining irregularities on it. I compared the 2 phones very, very carefully last night and this issue is real. The only bummer is on my "new" one there is a small nick on the back close to the lightning port. But I'll live with it. Haven't set it up yet, hope the rest of it is ok.

After 4 replacements for different issues I also received a week 42 with almost zero sign if this issue. However this one clicks or creeks when flexed the slightest bit; tried tightening screws and it's better but still not 100%.

You going to send it back?

I had this too. Eventually had it exchanged for a new phone at the Apple Store. Has some machining issues, not as visible as the first phone I had. I don't think this is a solved problem and probably has more to due with luck (or lack of). Most of the display units at the flagship store in SF have this issue.

I just received my 256 JB and it has this issue but it doesn't bother me, it's just an unfortunate effect of how the chassis is machined.
But the JB is one beautiful looking phone.

got my JB+ 128GB yesterday from Apple Store online and doesn't have this machining issue. I checked with a bright LED light etc, it's perfectly uniform. No issues on the finish at all. Just figured I'd weigh in, there's certainly good ones out there.

Week of manufacture: 43 (24th of October - 30th of October).
