I'm 4 days in without case.

In and out of my pockets, sitting on my desk, rubbing against the key FOB, cleaning it with my shirt. Still pristine condition. The scratch and micro abrasion drum beat made me paranoid, but now I'm thinking it's a little blown out of proportion. Full disclosure, I have never used a case or skin so I'm pretty well trained to keep it out of harm's way.

This device is too beautiful to cover up.

I try to be very diligent with the phone. I'm careful that the back makes no contact with my palm and I always lay it down on a microfiber cloth. I even stitched a microfiber cloth into my pocket so it keeps the back of the phone clean when I remove/insert it. And I permit absolutely no one to touch my phone except for me.

I bought a Les Paul 13 years ago and have played it only a three times because I'm afraid of scratches. Still looks new and shiny. My friend's guitar, though, is all scratched up and dinged from his belt buckle and the color has faded a lot from constant use. So no way I'll be using the phone that much. Don't care what Steve Jobs said about the beauty of aging metal or wabi sabi or whatever.

Opposite ends of the spectrum, yet no scratches. Go figure.

People who treat their glossy phone carelessly get abrasions, people who don't, don't. News at six.

I wouldn't go that far. I've been very careful with mine and I have no clue where these scratches on the bottom originated. I've been doing as others have been on this thread, in that I only place it on soft surfaces or a cloth and it's in a pocket all by itself. There are more than what the picture is showing as well, but all of them near the bottom of the phone.

I guess some peoples are holding up better than others. Maybe some batches came out more prone to those micro abrasions than other batches

Smart. Personally, if I had a jet black that's what I would do cause I don't care to show off to others anyway.

A jet black doesnt look jet black in a clear case, and it also ruins the grip of the phone itself. The grip of the jet black version is unlike any other. Any dust that gets caught in between the case and the phone which will happen 100% will leave the same type of micro scratches you see in the picture above.

Guys the thing is prone to scratches, Apple for the first time has accepted that:

The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodization and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodized Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.

If you don't like them do what Apple suggest, learn to leave with them, don't touch it or definitely don't buy it to be sincere.

Doesn't matter if it looks like a jet black or not cause you'll know you have it regardless

Thats the dumbest thing I've heard all day, but to each their own :)

I treat my jet black iphone 7 plus like I did my iphone 6 , caseless and take it everywhere and anywhere. So far so good.

Exactly, I know I have a beautiful JB iP7+256GB and if I desire to see it's beauty by undressing it then I will but in the interim it's in a clear case along with a ZAGG Clear Glass to protect the screen.

Exactly, I know it is not easy though i have an obsessive disorder too with CD's, when i buy one for example the latest David Bowie compilation i'm looking for defects on the package always and if i'm not satisfied i even could buy another copy sometimes but one has to figh it.

Oh wait, no point in responding to MacTechnics.. Hes the guy whos been making dumb posts about the jet black scratching because ultimately he feels bad he got the matte when his gut feeling was to get the jet black!

EDIT: Just check his post history ;)

That's what I'm thinking. That bottom part of the phone is looking like it didn't get the treatment the other 95% of the back got.

Yep and they're all along the bottom of the phone, not just that corner either. Oh well, at least I got that out of my system quickly.

Makes sense since Apple can't mass produce these fast enough and some don't pass QC. But some fall through the cracks, too...it seems. I'm just gonna wait until apple perfects the jet black, I learned my lesson with the slate iPhone 5. Now they got that finish right with the matte black. They'll get JB right and more scratch resistant next year

I would return the phone honestly if this happened to me and just get a matte. That is awful

Question is: Would Apple replace it? They already state a warn....

I would, but the problem is is that I bought this Verizon iPhone in the US and am currently living in Europe. Seeing as how they don't have CDMA phones here, I can't really do a one for one replacement.
I have AppleCare+ and will just see how it holds up over time. I'll be handling it much less carefully now, so once I'm back in the States within the next year or so, I'll most likely be due for a replacement.

Man that's unfortunate. Thank you for posting though, I'm sure plenty of people here have the same problem and won't man up about it

Not a bad plan. This phone is a stopgap anyway to the iPhone 8, that one is shaping up to be a phone you can keep for 2 years. This one? I would only roll with it for a year

No problem. I'm sure there are people out there but they probably just don't care as some of us do. If I had done something blatantly wrong with it, like slide it across something rough/drop it/sand it/etc. then I would own up to it, but I honestly have no clue.

Hope the lot of us have better luck though! Jealous of those of you who haven't had any scratches yet.

They'll get scratches eventually. It's supposedly "character" though lol

If avoiding these so called micro scratches is babying then you must be having a field day wiping down the oil marks on your matte. That's equally annoying.

It's a phone, enjoy device. People are way too worked up over this. I'm sure mine has those micro scratches too. I don't inspect my phone to see if they are there and nor do I care. You can't see them so who really cares
