Waiting for a videos when people are dropping a Nokia 3310 on top onto an iPhone 7.

Probably this happens...

I think Apple should follow Xiaomi and go ceramic next year. This jet black is just a tryout. Ceramic didn't resist smudges on the black Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro but ceramic is supposedly more scratch resistant. But this is Apple. Back to glass next year. Damn it. Back to pretty but fragile designs. Plenty of smashed threads for the iPhone 8.

The 10th anniversary iPhone 8 might just end up being a Samsung Galaxy S7 with no top and bottom bezel and edge to edge but no curves. We will just have to wait for the leaks until May and June of next year. I don't necessarily have high hopes for it but anything can happen. The 7 is turning out to be the stopgap upgrade that Tim Cook warned their shareholders months ago.

I could see Apple making the next phone ceramic like the Apple Watch this year. And if the 8 was a note 7 with iOS I would be more than happy.

Don't get what the fuss is about.

It doesn't scratch any easier than the other iPhone colours, however due to the colour of it, it will show said scratches easier.

How this thread is 16 pages long I do not know....jeeeez.

my jetblack iPhone: 8th day in use, naked..... no visible scratches. Yeah, when I put the phone 6 inches up to my nose in a full bright light in a certain angle, I would probally see some tiny scratches, but why should I do that?

“If you get a jet black model, you’ll want to get it into a case immediately,” reports Nilay Pitel of The Verge. “My jet black review unit scratched and scuffed almost instantly, and the only time it’s remained fingerprint-free is when we literally handled it with white gloves.”

That's it! Apple should sell iGloves for handling the jet black phones! With special coating so Touch ID can still be used! I get a cut of the profits from this idea Apple.

exactly. It is not that it is more prone to scratches, it is that they are more visible b.c of the finish.

No, it's more prone to scratches. Can't scratch the other finishes by using your shirt.

Go read the Apple website disclaimer.

Apple said:
The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision, nine-step anodisation and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodised Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.

Unless I am unable to read, how does that mean it scratches easier? Due to the finish, scratches may appear more obvious. Think if you scratch the Silver iPhone, there is nothing to scratch off and reveal the aluminium underneath. With the high gloss finish, you are scratching away the black finish to reveal the aluminium below.

That is just my thought on the whole situation, can't wait to get my JB iPhone 7+ and use it without a case, that's half the allure of the iPhone is that they look so good!

Yes, you can scratch other finishes if you have a particle stuck on your shirt (e.g., sand, which is especially prevalent if you live near a beach). We've heard reports of people scratching their plastic, glass and aluminum iPhones using their shirts in this way.

The claim that you can induce obvious scratches (not just swirl marks) on JB using a particle-free shirt is a false one.

LOL ok if you say so!

Regardless of whether it "shows" scratches or is easier to scratch the finish doesn't really matter. The visible result is the same. There is more to jet black than just how it looks (grip/feel). In 11 months most of us will be drooling over something else. Pick the one you want.

I think if you're thinking about having to wax your phone then its probably not the right choice for you.
