Who effing cares what some sensitive ordinary Janes – or Joes – on social media think about Iovine's comments. This kind of crap should never make the news.

Well I guess you cared enough to read the article and post a comment?

I'm sorry, but what is wrong with his statement specifically? He is simply stating that there's a need for a more user friendly service. He stated a situation where there can be demand, and he claimed the current solutions do not meet that demand.
The deniers are the geeks that for some reason think tech has to be complicated and filled with command lines.

I mean Steve Jobs said Apple is making computers for us mere mortals. Is that a wrong statement?

It's not the statement itself, it's the implications of it. He's taking a stereotype and reducing a repressed group to that stereotype. (In his defense, he specifies some women, but the implication is still there.) Not everyone knowing a DJ just makes the statement worse because DJs are overwhelmingly men so it implies that a woman specifically needs a man because she's incompetent at finding music, even if it's not specifically what he said. That added with the context of him being a man in a male-dominated industry that is notorious for being sexist is just further fuel for the flames.

I don't think he's a raging sexist, though. At worst he's someone who's spent a bit too much time in a male-dominated industry and has formed subconscious opinions based on that experience, at best he meant to make a good point and it came out completely wrong.

Nevermind the fact that the "curated playlists" are utter dog muck.

I mean woeful compared to Spotify's playlists. My "For You" section is totally unappealing. "An introduction to..." and artist that i've already got all their albums of? Great Apple! Even the deeper cuts playlists are of my favourite artists...its my favourite artists Apple, I already know the deeper cuts. The rest of the playlists are utterly dull too.

Spotify's discover is a thousand times better and their discover weekly playlist is literally genius - it pulls out artists ive never heard of that sounds just like the kind of music I like. Apple Music has not managed to do that one.

so it implies that a woman specifically needs a man because she's incompetent at finding music, even if it's not specifically what he said.
He said Apple Music is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. So I am confused why people are mad about that. It's as if people don't want an easy to use music discovery service.

My next statement is not targeted specifically towards you, but more towards those that are up in arms about this.
I mean what is he supposed to do, never refer to women for anything? He mentioned an example scenario on how there's a need for easy music discovery. I mean what's the complaint, that women should not be allowed to use tech that is easy to use?

I have a theory on the uproar.
1. This statement was that the intention of Apple music is to have a service that is easily accessible. The women scenario is an example.
2. Today, we are seeing more and more wannabe geeks that are loud and think they are above everybody else
3. The wannabe geeks felt that their higher position in the society is threatened if technology can be used easily by everybody. So they made these ridiculous claim using their pretentious privilege and loudness, and the name calling starts (sexist, etc).

So sounds to me is people that are up in arms about this hate women. These deniers hate women, and they hate companies that allow tech to be intuitive and easy to use. Basically they don't want tech to be easy to use, because it threatens their position as the "geek" that knows about tech. So these deniers twist everything people said to preserve their position by putting the label "sexism."

Amazing 10 pages on this.
I guess nobody has ever heard the crap that spews out of the mouths of those people on the View.

I don't think it's about the tech at all. It's about the music. Music as an industry is notorious for being dominated by men and for trying to use women as puppets. With the biggest female pop stars having male producers behind their music, it creatures a culture within the industry where men are intelligent and talented and know a thing or two about music, whereas women aren't that clever and need their male colleagues/friends to guide them and shape their musical tastes.

And so here a man from that industry is, suggesting that if a woman wants to listen to music, she'd better call her (likely male) DJ friends because she'll never figure it out on her own, what does she know about music?

There's a lot of generalizing there, of course, but I think I explained my point well!

Hyper sensitive world we live in!!! Better be perfectly politically correct in this day and age, or prepared to be blasted by liberals. I'm sure he will have to go back and retract and apologize.

A depressing example of Apple-Hype aimed at the, no matter how inconsequential, frothy, of no interest to anyone except the prodigiously confused and obsessed with non issues type of customer. This, in Apple's view, seems to be us all. Apple's micro thin veneer is becoming transparent and the real cash obsessed tyrant is clearly visible.

Apple recently debuted a new Apple Music ad, starring singer Mary J. Blige and actresses Taraji P. Henson and Kerry Washington, during the 2015 Emmy Awards.

In the one-minute spot, focused on Apple Music playlists, Washington says that Apple's curated playlists are like having "a boyfriend who creates you a mixtape -- in your laptop."

Jimmy Iovine, who joined Apple in 2014 following the company's acquisition of Beats Electronics, has made headlines today following controversial comments he made about women on CBS This Morning today in relation to the ad.

CBS has made the video clip unavailable to viewers outside the U.S. -- Mirror

In particular, when asked to explain his thinking behind the Emmy ad, Iovine said that "women find it very difficult at times -- some women -- to find music, ...and [Apple Music] helps makes it easier with playlists curated by real people." He proceeded to mention the problem of girls "sitting around" and "talking about boys."

The Verge transcribes:Iovine's comments have been widely criticized on Twitter and in several media outlets.

Update: Jimmy Iovine has provided BuzzFeed with an apology, saying "I could have chosen my words better."Note: Due to the political nature of the discussion regarding this topic, the discussion thread is located in our Politics, Religion, Social Issues forum. Nobody ignores anything these days. And social media makes for the perfect environment to vent over every little peeve that irritates us ... just as you're venting right now about this little peeve.

If YOU can't ignore it, why would you ask others to do what you are incapable of doing yourself?

I am ignoring what he said... doesn't bother me at all.

What does bother me, and what I am not ignoring, is how thin-skinned and overly sensitive people are.

OMFG. Get over. Way too hypersensitive Society we live in is a joke.
Not really a hypersensitive society but a glut of media outlets looking for anything to get views. There will be a shakedown as usual with even big boys taking hard hits.

Hyper sensitive world we live in!!! Better be perfectly politically correct in this day and age, or prepared to be blasted by liberals. I'm sure he will have to go back and retract and apologize.

Why do you feel that creating needless offense is justified and not deserving of criticism?

"I just thought of a problem, you know: girls are sitting around, you know, talking about boys. Or complaining about boys, you know, when they're heartbroken or whatever. And they need music for that, right? So it's hard to find the right music, you know. Not everybody has the right lists, or knows a DJ or something."

I can see where he's coming from, and it doesn't just relate to women. When we go through emotional events, we often look to music to express our mood and feelings, and this occurs subconsciously. But it can be difficult to find that perfect piece of music to relate to whatever is going on. In this context, he's talking about Apple's music search and services to make this happen.

However, his use of "you know" doesn't help (four times, mind you). His comments would have come off much better if they didn't imply that this was a well known and completely understood problem among women.

Because this nonsense is on the front page of macrumors.

Only the folks running this page know why ...

This as important as if a bicycle falls down in China.

On a much more important note: Why "in the land of the free" can somebody not say what he or she means?
Regardless of right wrong, misguided or perception?

And, an even more important note: Fix Apple Music . At this point I am not even tempted to try it.
Spotify is it for now.

This is true for all "social issues".

The gays, the guns, the coitus, the womenfolk, the wedding cakes, the pink unicorn, the weather, the terrorists ... all the same nonsense.

People create artificial problems because they get a rise in their levi's from the drama.

Probably because love and respect are important issues in a lot of people's lives. If love didn't matter pop wouldn't exist.

I don't think it is insensitive as much as it is that everything that comes out of his mouth is just scattered and drawing at straws and rough around the edges. I still remember his unveiling and how the only thing he could say was that Apple Music would have "good music".

Trent Reznor should have been the only Beats mouthpiece allowed to talk about Apple Music. He's a hardcore Apple fan and knows how to put on the dramatic theatrics of an Apple keynote. It was like he was possessed by Ive in the Apple Music unveiling video. Talking slowly, deliberately, and with a thick layer of bulls*** that makes us ALMOST believe they just changed the world. (Which Apple HAS done a few times.)
