Wow, the comment was not offensive at all. It's a scenario that is totally plausible and commonly happens around the world. Big whoop. Women and men alike can/do cry over each other after a breakup and many turn to music to find relief. It was a simple example that's just being blown out of proportion.

By a small number of people that we are reacting to.

So who is the problem here?

This woman doesn't care about what these folks say, it's what they do that counts. And Beats / Apple Music hasn't done a darn thing for me. I still think this decision to buy Beats --and for such a ridiculous amount of money -- is one of the worst decisions Tim Cook has made in his time as CEO. That money could have been used to properly craft the products Cook knows people will buy.

Rolls off computer chair.

I demand an apology! He should also apologize to native-american women and African-american women and Asian-American women and middle eastern-american women and South American-American women, and transsexual-American-American women and....

AKA: this crap is out of control. Pick your battles people. All this does is split everyone into special groups. So tired of the crybully movement.

wow..

people need to calm down in marketing...... get a grip...

Only this can make a big deal out of nothing...

Usually when this sort of stuff happens, it means there is no real news to do...

apple should have never purchase Beats. this guy should not be allowed to represent Apple he is not a good spokesman - he did nothing wrong but really should stay in the office...

I am honestly curious why.

I'm a dude. This guy thinks I'm better at finding music and you're worse at it.

Because of our genders alone.

That honesty doesn't bother you? Do you think it's true?

Good Lord. He was giving an example. Girls happened to be in his example. He did not even remotely suggest males are better at making playlists.

Why "shouldn't" I be offended?

I have a daughter. She's great with technology. You're saying I "shouldn't" be proud of that fact and tell the world?

Because she is and I love saying so, even if you think I shouldn't. She's not worse at finding music than anyone else.

So be offended. But you have to live in the world you make, and it's a world where people assume the worst about each other even when a much more charitable alternative view is just as possible.

So be offended.

I do think it's funny that everyone thinks I'm offended. Apparently it's impossible to actually have a discussion without people jumping to that ridiculous conclusion.

Here's a tip: if the only time I use the word "offended" in all of my posts I've put it in quotes, that's not a good sign.

Don't worry. People who are unable to engage in mature discussion will often label you as a "politically correct" "social justice warrior" that "gets offended by everything". It's just parroting empty talking points as if they were derogatory terms to label opinions they neither are able to comprehend nor engage with.

When MacRumors first dropped this ad on the website, I knew this was coming. It was the first thing in the ad that made me cringe. Im surprised it took this long for the complaints to start rolling in though....

Agreed. Though the very fact that he was making a (extremely loosely associated) blanket statement about women is an invitation for boatloads of trouble. We have to walk on eggshells, it seems, lest we stumble into any stereotype of any kind at any time ever again for the rest of our lives.

Also, I'm interested as to where this controversy is coming from. Who's leading the "hoardes" of those truly offended? I dont think anyone was offended and Iovine just offered an apology to jump the gun :p

Apple can kowtow to these social media crusaders all they want. As long as it doesn't impact business, I'll let the SJWs continue their shenanigans... in this realm at least.

Sidenote: Girls always had the funnest music. Guys around here just had really sad Country pop about trucks and Daisy Dukes.

Please direct your frustrage to the open air; I'll be sure to never receive it.

Taken out of context, the quotes sound outrageous. But it's pretty clear if you watch the video that Iovine was describing the specific scenario for a specific ad. The articles jumping down his throat were ridiculous.

Iovine referencing the classic image in all of our minds of girls talking about boys and looking for music isn't really anything to be offended about. Unless I'm missing something. That has nothing to do with your daughter's abilities. The comments by Iovine don't comment at all on anyone's intelligence or lack thereof. Just a social trope that is shunned by modern culture I guess.

He should be sorry for not knowing the exact language neutral enough to not offend that we all still keep throwing money at them.

Jimmy and his hip hop / rap / thug life partners are dolts... very rich dolts. Made that way in some cases by nothing other than being in the right place at the right time. USA being a money loving, sometimes incredibly shallow society, worships those who can toss a basketball, experts in other stick and ball sports, and the "ballers" obscene counterparts in music.

Apple in one New York Minute... dove off their perch above other lesser successful companies in a vain attempt to gain "street cred." All in a desperate attempt to become credible enough to take over the streaming music business. Dropped a cool $3 billion in the process, to prove they too could afford Cristal Champagne for the house... yet provided everyone that signed up free service because they didn't have the confidence to charge for what is ultimately a product that's still sucking wind.

Women could say far worse about men on national television and no one would bat an eye.
'Cause men generally don't care about this stuff, that's why. And even if they do, there's no way to spread any kind of guilt for it.
A lot of Semi-misogynistic posters on this forum.
Care to quote anything in particular? I haven't seen anything bad (yet).

OMFG. Get over. Way too hypersensitive Society we live in is a joke.

We freak out over and obsess at the exact wording of every semi-celebrity's words and yet we don't seem to take offense to other things like the rampant wave of hipster beards or the return of skinny jeans. When did trendy switch from metrosexual to unhygenic crumb catcher?

Oh wait, did I offend someone. Of course I'm suppose to be politically correct. We live in a society where I have to worry about someone's feelings to the point I can say anything about how much of a moron they might be.
