Free no I am starting to hate that word free. Any service that has a free tier that is ad ridden I either paid for and after I got tired I stopped using them. They all start out with one ad only then a bit more ads. Then video ads start and before you know there is the same video ads over and over again after every other song.

I am so glad AM only has a paid tier and it should stay like that. Artists hate free tiers and if AM did that we will start to lose artists that will go to other platforms.

It's like "free" is the new "clean" word in food!

My youtube channel would have over 800 million subscribers if I played Hollywood movies before their theatrical release for free, but I don't.

That's exactly what he said, too. IF it was free... but it isn't, and he doesn't believe in it.

That said, the value of Spotify is the weekly recommendations, not just playing music. I can play music on youtube, or Amazon Prime, for free.

I will never use a service with Ads, I'd rather pay. (Which makes me wonder why we get ads in a movie theatre if the ticket wasn't free...)
And renting or purchasing a DVD with ads for every movie known to mankind before movie starts.

lol. that's cute

But even Spotify doesn't have 400m users on it's free tier. in fact, if you added up every single subscription based music streaming service, do we even hit 400million users in total?
Apple could probably get a large number like this simply by enabling a "free" Apple Music tier on every iOS device by default. Of course that doesn't mean much.

Spotify's free tier actually has pretty severe limitations (such as not being able to listen to specific songs on demand on mobile devices). It's primarily an "entry drug".

Hopefully they will break iTunes into separate apps with their own stores. 18 days to go!
But it's doubtful that will happen, since iTunes was announced to be coming to the Windows Store later in the year.

The same with cord cutting for TV. I would rather pay the same or a bit more for the shows I choose, rather then a couple hundred included channels I do not watch. No free lunch, quality has a price.

You don't get ads "in" a movie. You get ads/trailers before a movie and you can come at the start of the show to avoid them. However, you will not find a seat in the opening weeks of a movie. And side note, trailers used to be at the end of the movie to promote upcoming films. When people did not stay after to watch these "trailers" the theaters moved them to appear before the feature film. :)

Good god, what would movie tickets cost if there were NOT ads?

Previews I get, but I can't stand that they have straight up commercials now in the theaters.

Not really, since the published start times are complete lies. There is no way to know when the show actually starts. It is usually at least 10 minutes but in some extreme cases is about 25 minutes. In the latter case you are literally watching more ads than the content of a half hour TV show. And even worse, the ads are full of movie spoilers--a lot of us don't want our movies spoiled.

I applaud Jimmy here. A man on the right side of the issue sticking to his principles while realizing he has to operate, compete, and succeed in the real world. Good on you Jimmy!

Am I wrong in believing that free services still pay artists? Maybe not enough, but he suggests the music is practically stolen.
I wish I had enjoyed Apple Music as much as he suggests I should. Unfortunately I just switched to Google Play because it's like 5 times better at predicting songs I'll like.

I switched to Google Play too. It has a better UI and is much better at handling large libraries of purchased music. I got tired of fighting iCloud Music Llbrary. To me that is the weak link in Apple Music and the sole reason I'm not using the service.

No matter how hard you try to 'paint' the picture of a failing Apple - that reality will only exist in your head

Did i say Apple was failing? I guess you're just a bit sensitive about the issue. Maybe you're worried?

All I said is Jimmy sounds like an idiot for saying that, I explained why that is the case, and I shared the blame with Timmy for running his show that way. No where did I say it means Apple is failing.

No, the blame falls on the formula that Spotify uses to pay out its revenue

Again... Spotify would be absolutely nothing without the Music labels catalog... so... i disagree.

If Music labels really care about their artists they would ban Spotify but they don't so.... Everybody is happy here except some artist like Taylor Swift which is millionare already so...

Except it sounds bad. Sorry but 320 kbps MP3 sounds like mud compared to 256 kbps AAC and I can easily doing a blind test tell.

I disagree. There is a difference to my ears but not a major one. I find Apple Music files have a slightly richer, fuller sound but Google files seem a bit clearer not muddy to me. To each his own. I just use a streaming service to try before I buy. If I like something I buy the CD and rip a lossless copy or buy FLAC files. If iCloud Music Library wasn't so poorly designed I'd be using Apple Music.
