I find it funny when a 'tipster' tells of people out for a stroll yet doesn't manage to capture a picture of it. Who in this day and age still has a phone without a camera on it? Or even just a camera on its own? I'm sure the story is true but it just seems people are never prepared anymore.

Also, let's remember how inflated those numbers are. I made a Facebook account ten years ago when it was only colleges. No pictures, no friends, no nothing, and haven't been on since. Facebook still sends me emails. I'm sure they still count me as well as most of their "users" who are far from active.

pretty much the point i making.

a few months ago i got an email from facebook on my old yahoo account (first mail account) and apparently i started a facebook account long long time ago and had totally forgot. same with myspace

I think there's more to this than meets the eye. I wonder if Ping, as it is being promoted today, is just Steve's initial attempt to manoeuvre into the social networking scene, with much bigger plans for the future — perhaps merging with MobileMe, or something we haven't even considered yet. iTunes just happens to be Apple's most dominant market, so they have more potential users to start the ball rolling here, rather than with MobileMe subscribers, FaceTime users, etc.

Steve's always thinking a few moves ahead, and he seems pretty serious about this!

Not into Social Networking, but I can see that Ping could expand quite rapidly into film, and I wouldn't mind stopping by the Ping Cafe for a cup of Java and discuss, as an example, "Never Let Me Go" which I saw last night or or "Let Me In"/"Let the Right One In" or the "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo".

Better, a Virtual Film Class with with the director, editor, cast et al, and Ping users getting a single iTunes discount night to view the film and discuss.

That would be how I would use Ping. If anything, I would expand Ping to offer more Pro Apps support/networking for music and film production.

I fail to see how age is relevant?

Based on your post however, you seem to be implying age is relevant in some condescending manner, in which case, I'd be interest to know your net worth compared to that '26 y/o.'

That 26 y/o has probably accomplished more in the last 60 days than you will in your entire life. Jealousy is ugly, ignorance is worse.

Accomplishments or money have *zero* to do with whether or not someone has the right to give their opinion on the matter. If the person giving the opinion hasn't done as much or doesn't have as much money....well....the opinion can still be valid. :)

i'm not really interested in facebook or ping, macrumors:forum is the most i take part in really but i think if ping and facebook could somehow link together it might interest me a little more.

Am I the only one here who hates Ping? I mean I guess I'm not the target audience, as Facebook is the only social network I use, and even then I use it very little, but still. And now Ping? In my music player?

Yea, facebook of all companies should really go and put intrusive software into their game plan.

I love the picture this paints. Zuckerberg is summoned to Steve's mansion to break bread, a stroll in the Italian garden and Steve makes him an offer he can't refuse.

Zucky had better play ball, or he will end up with a horses head at the foot of his bed.

Childish I know. Couldn't resist it though. :p

Apple is one of the two or three biggest, most profitable companies on the planet. Facebook runs at a deficit. Yeah, they've got Apple over a barrel all right.
Apple does not need Ping to succeed from a financial point of view, far from it. But Ping being a total failure can have some effects on their reputation, again nothing major but it might give them a tiny little bit less clout when they negotiate with any other major corporation, eg, the record labels.

Actually, Apple's very success has made the music, television, film and print media very cautious of placing even more power in Apple's iTunes media store.

I'm guessing Mark Zuckerberg would prefer being pinged over dinner rather than being squirted.

well, whether you like it or not, until it's replaced by that 'supposed' next best thing, you'll have to deal it's presence. I simply do not agree with you that it's a fad and think it's actually here to stay. (you did create an account 10 years ago....that's a heck of a time and in cyber space, a lifetime!!!)

In addition, facebook has succeeded in a level of integration that has gone beyond what you can define as current trend.....hell even CNN has joined the facebook bandwagon. calling it a fad is equivalent to calling google-search a fad.

Myspace might not be as popular as it was but fact is it's still active and gets a lot of traffic.

simply because you do not use a product or do not see the purpose behind it doesn't make it useless (except to you). it will make more sense to say it's not for you or perhaps you fall outside the target audience. I know a lot of varied facebook users, students to pensioners alike and for me it serves it's purpose pretty well

Wonder what they ate - maybe they split a big bucket of KFC?

Steve has had a long time habit of having the "Japanese 3S" of sushi, sashimi and sake when talking big business.

Many say you can judge someone's personality, priorities and prejudices by how they eat a Japanese meal more than working with them for a year.

Can Zuck even hold chopsticks right without looking like he's just out of a dorm beer blast?

Sashimi... oishii desu ne!

They all just got lucky now we must know their day to day to take control & receive more power for them & most certainly for their companies. One day, never mind they'll never be a one day I'll get lucky rich unless I invent something I've been working on for past month now. Anyways I just wanted to babble how corrupt people get when they get rich.
