No one here (people I know) where I live has had an issue with signal or dropped calls on their phone. I get better reception in places that I didn't before with my 3GS.

To say the iPhone 4 is the best phone ever or right now is a matter of opinion and is up to the user to decide what they want. It does seem a lot of people are disappointed with this phone but however I am extremely happy with mine. Faster device speed and the crystal clear screen was good enough for me to upgrade. I am extremely impressed with the video quality on a cell phone so I am happy.

Who are you? Do you think of yourself as a soldier in Steve Jobs army or something?

The "we" is the people on the forums of a mac site.. not what you were thinking, whatever that may have been.

Everyone on here is desperately on an iphone, macbook, whatever, and everyone seems to have something to complain about, whether it be that they're trying to get one of those $4 class-action settlement checks, they want a free bumper case or they just have no life to the point that they're reduced to finding substance in complaining on online forums.

I come here for updates on product developments, it's hard to find good information when you have to dig through 50 posts from people who saved up for a year to buy the latest iphone and they're whole-heartedly upset that it doesn't have a built-in pico projector - omggg.

I've never had problems with any Apple equipment.. and I have all of it. Configuration issues with a mac server but that was due to my lacking knowledge of DNS, not anything on Apple's end - I find it hard to believe that so many people have so many problems with so many things.. I think it's just greed, trying to get free stuff and recoup some of the losses you endured to get this phone that you all oh-so-desperately needed.

If you don't like it, return the phone.

Agreed, but clearly there are people who are severely disappointed in their iPhone4. All the positive reviews in the world, or recommendations from happy owners, won't help somebody that feels they are not getting the performance they paid for. A lot of the disgruntled owners on this forum bought the iPhone4 in the belief that Apple would deliver on SJ's promise that this was a better phone.

I believe it would be in Apple's best interest to buy back iPhone4 from disgruntled owners, no restocking fee. It would do a lot to quite the complaints, and show Apple as willing to stand behind their product and rectify a mistake. And to anybody that wants to keep a phone, they should offer a bumper for free to enhance their phone's performance.

Everybody makes mistakes, but how an individual or company chose to deal with the consequences of those mistakes says a lot about them.

Dude real iphone 4 owners will never take back their phones. There is a small minority of people having problems. They are just trying to rain on the apple parade. The Iphone 4 is the best phone and there are some people who are pissed off about it. No other phone has sold over 1.7 million in 3 days. This would never happen on any other phone except for an iphone.

Wait, what? Where is the contract? Where is the signature? I understand there might be some kind of case law like this, but I wonder if maybe someone gave you the wrong terminology in explaining it.

Quite possibly I am using the wrong terminology in explaining this. If somebody with legal and/or accounting background can describe it better that would be great. However, I do know that the company I work for (which is one of those in that top-10 market cap range for U.S.) is extremely concerned about making any verbal statements of any kind about future features on specific versions or by specific dates.

In Apple's case it might open them up to a class-action lawsuit if feature X did not show up in iPhone version Y whereby they would have to do bad things like delay accounting for June iPhone launch revenue until third quarter or fourth quarter or until the class-acton lawsuit was resolved.

I'm pretty sure that you are in the majority. Only the unhappy minority are being vocal on these forums. Folks like you are too busy enjoying your new phone (as you should be).

I have yet to meet a person face-to-face who has signal issues with iPhone-4, although I hear about them on this forum all the time. Personally, I think that phone looks so awesome that I may be trading in my 3GS for one in the near future -- still deciding if I want to take that plunge, re-up with AT&T for two more years, etc.....

Anyway, if the majority of folks in the world had this issue then Apple's response would be very different because they would be seeing large numbers of returned phones. Either way, they should be treating those who are having issues with more respect than they are.

read a book - or ibook

But what to do at a time when there may be no access to the Internet for any reason?

If you're in a place that doesn't even have 3g / edge connectivity, it's probably by choice. Like camping. In which case, put down the iPad and iPhone and enjoy some iLife.

(or perhaps you're in a cave - then enjoy the iDark)

why would I wasted valuable bandwidth uploading a HD quality video. 10 mins is prob a quarter of my monthly allotment!

No, I do not live in a cave. But thanks for the advice :). I would enjoy ilife.

I'm just pointing out that there is good reason for a little empathy for the "unhappy minority". For me personally, I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my pre-ordered iPhone4 and bumper.

I don't know if we'd hear about large numbers of returned phones if it was happening (although, this is a rumors site). In the long run, the measure of the phone will be if it can sustain the high sales rate it's shown so far, and if it creates brand loyalty that leads owners to buy the next generation Apple smart phone. My guess is that it will.
