Who really uploads raw, unedited, uncompressed HD videos anyways? I would think the vast majority of people wanting to share HD-quality videos would do some type of editing on a Mac/PC before sharing online.

You really can't see the usefulness here???
Okay, say your on vacation taking a bunch of awesome videos but since your phone is loaded up with all of your music and movies that you want to watch on the plane and in the hotel room, you have no space to keep more than 1 or 2 of your own on the phone unless you can offload them somewhere. And let's face it, taking your laptop on vacation is pretty lame.

The bottom line is, who the hell cares why someone else wants to do it? There are many reasons, and the technology exists so why not implement it? As someone else already said, Apple hasn't figured out how to make more money off of it yet.

I believe it is pretty good at making calls though, and not dropping them mid-conversation. I know, it's a minor feature for a phone but even so it's pretty magical how it manages to do this.

Oh, and I'm not an Evo 4G owner. Sold my 3G and got a Nexus One. No front facing camera, reasonable battery life, beautiful hires display and amazing (multitasking) performance. Quite a bit cheaper than an unlocked iPhone 4 too (I don't need contract, so unlocked is important to me). Oh, and I've never had a dropped call. It does all the over the air stuff too - apps, movies, music, you name it (just to get back on topic). It's pretty much unrestricted in what it can do. I wonder why Apple apply so many restrictions to the iPhone when they now have the hardware and horsepower to compete. Don't they trust the users who've spent so much money to own this hardware? Very strange.

My iPhone doesn't have a problem with dropping calls either. So your point is moot.

Fforums like this are a magnet for people who want to rave or complain

I honestly can't believe how terrible Apple iPhone fans have become. Maybe its because I don't worry about cupping my phone every time I pull it out so I can see IF the bars drop. I just use it, and use it A LOT. The iPhone 4 is, without a doubt, the best phone of the market. Yes I said PHONE. It makes calls WONDERFULLY.

I have yet to drop a call. I'm sure there are tons of obsessive compulsive people on here that are looking at there phones as the cup the bottom while they scream at their computers saying i'm a liar. But the fact remains that i'm not. I'm getting sick and tired of the comments about how the iPhone can't make calls. Have any of you whining and complaining looked up any iphone 4 reviews? Oh you did huh? Did you see that pretty much every single one names iphone 4 as the best phone on the market? You must have missed that.

HERES THE BOTTOM LINE:

Having issues? Buy a case.

Don't want to buy a case because Apple is "uber sucky because their phone should be naked because you love it so much but you hate it too?" - THEN TAKE IT BACK!

QUIT WASTING YOUR LIFE WHINING ABOUT A PHONE.

Agreed, but clearly there are people who are severely disappointed in their iPhone4. All the positive reviews in the world, or recommendations from happy owners, won't help somebody that feels they are not getting the performance they paid for. A lot of the disgruntled owners on this forum bought the iPhone4 in the belief that Apple would deliver on SJ's promise that this was a better phone.

I believe it would be in Apple's best interest to buy back iPhone4 from disgruntled owners, no restocking fee. It would do a lot to quite the complaints, and show Apple as willing to stand behind their product and rectify a mistake. And to anybody that wants to keep a phone, they should offer a bumper for free to enhance their phone's performance.

Everybody makes mistakes, but how an individual or company chose to deal with the consequences of those mistakes says a lot about them.

Wow. I got my first MR reading troll IM attack as a result of my last mention of hateful Android users/fans.. Hmm. And I like Android.

Either way I'm not sure why this is a particularly useful feature? Nobody has an iphone they aren't syncing to a PC/Mac every day or two. if its critical you get the video uploaded surely SD would be fine on the road, then couldn't you swap it out for HD once you're at the computer? (actually im not sure if you can on things like youtube?)

Ah, I can't imagine going on holiday without some sort of external media storage or a laptop.. I see why some would want this now. :)

wifi only but also try

Try pixelpipe, it's in the app store

Or DropBox (although they need to update the app for iOS4) - it's quite handy for photo/video transfers. Saved me 30 bucks for the photo adapter for my iPad. Shoot with iPhone - dropbox - retrieve on iPad in seconds, done.

2 gigs of free remote cloud storage and distro goodness. So good it'll make you an unpaid spokesman-whore.

But what to do at a time when there may be no access to the Internet for any reason?

AT&T, being the scumbags they are....won't allow this.

however, if the iPhone does come to verizon I'm sure Apple will do it. Verizon will do it, so AT&T will probably follow in Verizon's foosteps

either way I'm sticking with AT&T, everyone else can go to Verizon :p

I just want to be able to sync my iPad/iPhone via WiFi without having to plug in a USB cable. Has Apple ever released a reason why this is technically not possible for them? I don't understand, it seems this can be done either with Bluetooth or WiFi. Strange.

I don't think they've ever said, but if I were to hazard a guess I'd say it's because they don't have a clean way to handle the <5% of the time that there are problems. Like something briefly interferes with the wireless signal (say your in the audience at a WWDC or something), your battery dies mid-sync, or you accidentally close the lid on your laptop without thinking.

I'm more and more glad I kept my Unlimited data plan.

Hopefully they don't take it away.

Me too!! On a side note. I cancelled my unlimited plan on my iPad, After June 7th. I still have the ability to access that plan if I want to.. which is nice.. having the ability to go back to unlimited.

My employee just got an HTC Droid Incredible (after me touting the iphone for ages.. <sigh>) and I have to say.. its not bad. Fast, a bit clunky for me (iphone owner since the dawn), but actually useable. The system is not for me, but I can see others' appeal to it.

Yes -- as I explained in the rest of my post which you neglected to quote above.

If you tell somebody feature X is coming by some date or in version Y of the product then you are have created a contractual promise of that feature. Folks may base purchasing the current version on the assumption that the other feature is coming. However, if you fail to deliver then technically you cannot count revenue for the product from the point at which the promise was made if your customers call you on it. That is because you have accepted their money without delivering all of what you promised.

Wait, what? Where is the contract? Where is the signature? I understand there might be some kind of case law like this, but I wonder if maybe someone gave you the wrong terminology in explaining it.

You mean the clunky Android phones that don't drop calls, make video calls over more than just wifi, and offer 4G speeds?

I'd have to drink an awful lot of the Kool-Aid to come remotely close to thinking that iPhone 4 was the best phone on the market.

Every phone drops calls, not all phones are affected by this supposed antenna issue.. mine isn't.

You don't make video calls.. noone does, I don't see what the big deal with face time is but since it's Apple I'm sure it will catch on and usher in a new era of video calling.

Do you live in a 4G area? Does anyone live in a 4G area?

I also think the iphone is the best phone on the market... so do ~3million other people (a week after launch)

well said.

If you dont like the phone because you drop calls while inside a large aluminum foil bag, either don't make calls from inside the bag or return the ****ing phone. Go buy an android - we aren't going to miss you - apple won't fell the brunt of your scorn.

Are you trolling?

it would be nice if you could email a clip over 54 seconds long. right now it's locked at that length and has to be trimmed if over 54 seconds.

Who are you? Do you think of yourself as a soldier in Steve Jobs army or something?

The future is here; You can do this with WiFi already... when you jailbreak your iDevice.

p.s. I also charge my new iPhone 4 without a cable... something Apple will most likely also reinvent "in the future"
