Non issue.

When and where was that photo taken? or did someone with a master's degree in Photo Shop pull that off?

When I hold my phone to talk on it, I don't put my palm on the corner of the phone. That means this issue does not affect me at all. Should I be in the outraged camp or the get over it camp?

i have fixed the issue on my own. I placed some electrical tape around the phone. Works fine now. Dont have to spend 30 for a bump

yea, your phone just looks stupid. People like you are unbelievable. It's the reason why crap products are still put out by companies like Apple.

well i will leave you guys to cry a river over this. just remember...please bring back the iphones tomorrow. so everyone else can get one.

just a few things to actually consider and not just wail.

1) if you actually take a look at how the majority of people hold the phone, the lower left corner is the best place on the phone to put this little divider. with every other part, you are more likely to come in contact using your fingers. try it out. (dont forget to surf the net, play games, etc...your plam is not on the lower left corner).
2) service and reception is actually improved for the iPhone 4.0 due to the new design. try it out.

tons of people have the new phone and run into no issue.

its just the 10-30 of you on here (out of how many sold) that are saying the same thing over and over again.

the issue will go away.

from the New York Times Article:

Even Brian Lam, Gizmodo’s editorial director, saw an upside to the iPhone 4, antenna problems and all.

“We are paying attention to the antenna issue because it could be a big deal,” he said. But Mr. Lam said that for years, he had not been able to use his older iPhones to make calls from his apartment. That changed on Thursday, after he bought an iPhone 4. “I have made three hours of calls today,” he sa

Make sure you read CAREFULLY. Especially the part about them zapping apps off your phone that you paid for, without compensation, at their discrection. Section three discusses nudity and porn.

Do you really believe those emails are from Steve ?

You'll be back.

Yes you will.....

Does anyone really care that this was sent from my iPad ? It's for my personal enjoyment.

Wow, yea you're a tool. They only do that if the app is malicious, and you're an idiot if you bought it in the first place. I'm sorry Android is too complex for you. Have fun with your phone that can't make calls when held "improperly"

Wow, not only was the reply retarded but it's almost if he flicked us off his shoulder like a spec of dust.

For those interested in returning their phone, would AT&T even let you out of there contract? AT&T doesn't have many phones to offer and none that I'd want to be stuck in a 2 year contract for.

Having had a bit of a think about this I've come to the conclusion that this issue really isn't that big of a deal.

Engadget, among others, have noted that the issue relating to sensitive areas on phones is well known and not limited to Apple devices. The thing is that this is the only device to have such clearly visible and easy to identify areas of sensitivity. Add to that the fact that no product by any other company comes under the kind of close scrutiny that Apple's iPhone does and you've got a big story out of what really isn't a big deal.

I can reproduce the issue on my iPhone 4 but I really have to try to make it happen. I don't see that as a problem. Under normal use I've not had an issue at all. Why would I worry about a theoretical problem that I can only reproduce on purpose?

It's understandable that people want their phone to be perfect in every way. I think Apple made a design choice here. They could get better reception with exposed antenna but that would mean a more obviouse area of sensitivity to reception degradation under specific circumstances. They made a call on that. You may not like their call or think they made the wrong one and that's why you can choose to purchase something else. In the end, it's only an issue if it's an issue and, for me, it isn't.

Started reading the thread when it was just nine pages.
Just as i am reading it multiplied to 18 pages.
Seems some serious trouble for apple and their bs attitude to end user.

I totally agree with him. As soon as I realized that you just need to avoid touching the bottom, I adjusted the way I hold it. Just hold it a bit higher and your fine. Like he said, non-issue. Especially sine most of us are going to have bumpers or some other kind of case. I think that most of the people claiming that they are dropping calls because of it are trolls and shills anyway. Ya, it's a little annoying, but not that big of a deal. Of course all of "the usual suspects" are having a field day crying about it.

Nonsense. Most people are right handed and don't normally hold the whole phone in the palm of their hand. And the lefty's don't usually hold it that way either. Just takes a bit of adjusting if you do.

I agree with this post 100%. This is a nonissue. All the whining demanding free bumpers need to ****.

Steve's right this is a non issue being made into a big deal by haters and trolls. If you really aren't happy with the most amazing phone in the world then take it back and buy a POS Android phone. If This was a real problem then ther's no doubt in my mind that Steve would take care of it. He's never let us down before. Don't let the haters win, ignore them they're just jealous they can't afford a real phone because they're on welfare.

Will you pay everyone's restocking fee?

This phone should have been my first smartphone and until I return it tomorrow it will be. I didn't care much about Apple in the past. What I see here is out of this world.

Why do people defend a company that does this to them. What is next? It seems to me some people here will really buy everything from Apple no matter what and then when the product has a flaw compromise or even pay to get it fixed themselves.

Great kind of customers...

I love how the new iPhone looks. Its awesome and I did not buy it to have it wrapped in the Apple rubber. Even if I would get it for free I would always be annoyed that I couldnt use the product I bought the way I want to. Simple as that.

This whole thing pissed me off a lot and that's why I registered today.

I'm angry too. I don't know yet whether I will go through with taking it back, which would only be on the terms of principle, because I can live with a case, even if reluctantly. I'll give it a few days and see, but I admire your principled stand. My view of SJ and Apple has completely changed, we're being conned and it feels ugly.

Left handed

Guess if you are left handed you are screwed with a new iPhone 4. Non-issue my butt.

Not happening to you?

For those of you saying it's not an issue, here is a video showing how holding the phone for browsing etc kills the connection. Download the free speed test app and give this a try...breaks the connection every time for me.
