Thats a pretty harsh response. Why wouldn't they just cover the antenna with a thin non-conductive coating? it could have solved all of these problems.

Seriously...

That is not a solution.

However, I have been looking at videos of people with 3g and 3gs phones who have upgraded to iOS 4 and they are having the same issues. I have upgraded and tried it on mine and it does the same thing. I will have full bars and it will drop to nothing. It never did this before. So maybe it is a software problem and that is what Steve means by a non-issue. In anycase, with the horrible publicity going around about the phone, that is the WORST response.

How about something like, "Don't worry, a fix is coming soon." Sheesh.

There's an issue? I have no issue.

I tried to hold it several different ways, even mirroring the videos and could not reproduce the "problem". Cool sj wrote you back even if his "answer" was total bs.

I thought Apple said it was a software issue?

Now they're saying it is a hardware issue (or just a flaw in their design)?

I have a legit question: what are the odds that Apple relocates the "seams" in manufacturing soon for a revision?

From the looks of Steve's e-mail, I'd say it's slim to none. Steve thinks it's a non-issue....A revision in both design and the manufacturing is a very costly procedure that would cost Apple millions. Don't think a CEO as on top of the ball as SJ would do something like that when they didn't have to.

Un-friggin-believable!!!

I'm at a loss for words.

"Hey dealer, my car won't run if I sit in it."

"Well, don't sit in it then"

I can believe this is real. Well, at least they have admitted the problem!

This honestly blows my mind that this is Jobs' response. Even if, for the sake of argument, they are actually working to rectify the design flaw, and even it isn't actually Jobs, but an assistant or some such, it is still a less than satisfying solution.

So Steve is suggesting that, in spite of years of candybar style phones, that we all just stop holding them the way we've always held them?
Really? Come on, Steve.

So they decided to place the rubber bumpers in the exact spot where most people make contact when holding their phones, and it is up to us to adjust to that?

Normally, I would defend Apple, and was fully prepared to do so on this issue, but now.... I just can't. Not in light of how casual they seem to be handling this.

Hopefully, there will be a more respectable solution in the future, but for the moment, you gotta be freaking kidding me.

Wow! Go get another phone if you aren't happy! Simple as that!

I'm guessing some company will come out with a little strip of clear plastic that you can tape over that area and solve the problem, or you could even do it yourself with a short trip to the craft store.

Personally I don't hold my phone in a way that will cover that part. Whether left or right handed.

Really an Apple fan usually... But Jobs is just seeming to get more and more arrogant. And to call this an non-issue... I mean, of course phones have their sensitive areas. But when they usually aren't that openly visible and hard to touch by accident...

Really disappointed that by that answer...

Mine works fine no matter how I hold it. So this is a non-issue for me.

Maybe try wearing some non-conductive gloves when using your iphone :)

Why would Steve Jobs care? Everyone is going to buy his iPhone anyway and they probably will buy the bumper too so now this "problem" is actually creating more revenue for the company.

Steve's response is magical - literally.

Simply to get YOU to ACCEPT the UNACCEPTABLE.

It works with politicians, stooges and other crooks. Why not in the IT business.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming at it's finest.

seriously, who wraps their hands around the phone like that when using it? I basically use my thumb and middle finger to hold the phone and my pointer finger on the back to hold it to my head. And even then i'm holding it by the bottom part of the phone and not the sides. some people really look for anything to complain about.

It is clear now Gray Powell didn't lose his iPhone 4, he threw the piece of **** away & went back to 3G. I hope Steve Jobs slips on acid. -- via @dimlylitcube

I'm not having this issue. iPhone 3G (brand new refurb as of yesterday) updated to 4.0 jailbreaked with redsn0w and unlocked with ultrasn0w using it on T-mobile.

It's At&t.. the network sucks.lol
