Jobs to Give WWDC Keynote

Imagine the reaction when he DOES NOT announce the 970 PM. Either way the Moscone Center had better be reinforced for the event.
 
Well - you can DEFINITELY be assured of the new 15" anodised aluminium-encased G4 PowerBook to be on the list of new releases.

What else?!?

1. International distribution for the iTunes Music Store...

2. drop in price for .mac accounts...

3. QuarkExpress 6 FINALLY released...

4. New AppleWorks entitled "iWorks" - better than Office X...

5. iChat FINALLY offers true Video Conferencing facilities...

6. New PPC 970 - but ONLY on High-end Macs...

Ohhhhh yeah....and I bet Carmack has been in on it for a long time, so Doom III would be optimized for the 970 (no doubt it would take advantage of one). If it supported MPs, we would be the envy (for ONCE!) of the PC gaming world..."Wha?!?!? You only get 90 FPS? What's doing your rendering, a Pantyum 4? BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

BTW, does "/me dreams" = slash me dreams? Because that's about what we can expect after too much D3.....:eek:
 
eMacs have just been refreshed and are cheap enough for education authorities. They'll be around for a while.

I'd be really surprised if 970 was not announced. In fact, I'd be heart broken and disillustioned!

Did Steve Jobs announce any hardware at WWDC last year?

I imagine that he'll talk about Panther and Apples development tools as well as the number of new developers using OS X. I'm not sure if he'll use the WWDC as a forum to launch his new products. Maybe he will, but I think that would be a bit odd.

/me = me... it's a unix thing. think of directory structure... /dev/null is my favorite.

Actually I believe that the person that wrote "/me dreams" was referring to IRC where when one would type that it would display in the channel as (if I typed it): SilentPanda dreams.

Pretty much all of Carmacks engines support multiple processors, pc or mac. But yes, if the benchmarks we've seen so far ring true, it would be blistering fast on a dual 970 machine

YES!! PLEASE!!!

I honestly think/hope that there will be 970 PBs soon. If not, we won't see any really note worthy update to the PowerBooks for some time. I stand by the belief that we're not going to see any kind of a G4 speed bump in the PowerBooks. They're just too hot.

So, it's 970 or bust!!

You are thinking of MWNY. His Steveness will not be keynoting there. There was never an announcement that His Steveness would not be keynoting WWDC.

you may be being a bit too optimistic, or insanely expectant. WWDC is a show for developers. Most of the stuff on your list seem to be for consumers. And to be honest, I could really care less about those things when compared to the potential of the 970 release. PPC 970 + Panther64.

but kiwi did mention releasing Quark 6, and this would be a definite good thing for wwdc. Quark being the lagging platform killer app <flame retardant installed - keep back 500 ft.> has a definite realm of interest to developers. Development of Q6 xtensions, and possibly knowing ahead of time to write them to optimize for 64 bit processing could make a world of difference for developers RIGHT NOW. I'm sure folks like extensis and markzware, etc. have a pre-release developer's version/beta of Q6 to develop for, but if it's protocols are going to change soon, it's better to plan for the future.

question - is it just me, or does wwdc look like wwjd at a glance, and if so, do you also think "what would steve do?"

I'm beginning to think we won't see 970s at WWDC - or ever. IBM won't sell them. The G4 is the end. Apple will move into portable devices, discontinue the Power Mac (two words) and eventually everything but the eMac and iBook will dwindle away.

He didn't launch any new hardware @ WWDC 2002, but he did release the 17" LCD Studio Display (and kill the CRT as well) at WWDC 2001. He also introduced the 'Lombard' PB at WWDC 1999. So a Power Mac 970/G5 may actually be possible.

Hey! - Notice a pattern? '99, '01, '03??
