Due to a coffee incident, my wife's work machine - a 13" 2013 MBP - bit the dust. In a panic, we rushed to the nearest store to get a replacement.

All the laptops were in a line, expensive-to-cheap, left to right. She started on the left, and worked her way along, trying the keyboards.
They were assessed by her as "all the same, horrible" until we reached the older gen MacBook Air at the end, when she said "Ah, that's better". That's the one we bought, which incidentally also has a USB port for her mouse receiver. She couldn't give a stuff about touchbars, low profile keyboards or even retina displays.

He's an Apple customer and that's all that matters. He doesn't have to have expertise on the subject to know he doesn't like it.

There will never be a day when I care about the opinion of every apple customer. You still have been able to explain why anyone should give a damn what joe rogan likes. It's just stupid fame worship.

No one is saying that anyone should give a damn. He gave his thoughts on the Apple keyboard and people are commenting on it. It’s no different than someone starting a thread here.

I could have already told you that I hated the keyboard long before Joe Rogan has anything to say about it, just like you didn’t need to hear that he hated it to sway your opinion on liking it.

Yeah, the point is, the guy has 2.2 million listeners.

Now, 2.2 million people have "heard that Apple has terrible keyboards."

Videos from people who had their head punched too many times aside, let's be sensible.

Look at tech rants on the internet. Privileged, narcisstic generation who never experienced the days of actually thick, loud, painful keyboards. The days of very expensive software. The days of very expensive home video. The days when you actually had to get off your ass and talk to people in real life and use your brain. They have so much convenience now and they don't have any gratitude or hindsight or foresight.

We live in this delusional left-swipe culture. Every little thing is an argument today. A computer company shaves 1 millimetre off of keyboard travel and these privileged neets lose their minds and think Joe Rogan's opinion on anything matters. I think I'll put my trust in the engineers who spend millions on R&D and are working towards more efficient and easier to use systems.

All that sand... does it itch?

Regardless of who says it the current keyboard has a high failure rate. One could generalize and blame the shrinking size but maybe your engineers, who spend millions on R&D, just plain f'ed up. Yes, I have one, I don't care for it and it has been replaced once and it is starting to act up again under very light use.

Butthurt is strong with you.

It's quite different than someone stating his opinion on here. In fact, it's nothing like it at all. Have a nice day, at this point your just being pedantic.

Naw, he's just a meaningless person to me. He has no expertise in the subject, his opinion has no value to me. Why would it? He's a comedian, and he's not very good at that. People worship on the alter of fame and celebrity. Blah.

So unless someone is a keyboard design engineer, their opinions have no value? We should then have no tech review sites, because at the end of the day they are all just lay people, who have no direct expertise in keyboard design.

Joe Rogan is a long time computer user, just like you an I. And he sounded fairly knowledgable and intelligent in his assessment of various laptops and keyboards he's worked on. I'd actually say Joe's video offered an order of magnitude more insight on this subject than your pointless little gripe.

the 13" air is really good, maybe the last great laptop they make, have fun!

You are obviously not getting it but let's move on and you have a wonderful day as well.

Though I generally strongly dislike the man, it is a big deal (imo) that John Gruber is very vocal about disliking the keyboards, recently saying :

"These keyboards are the biggest mistake in Apple’s history."

https://daringfireball.net/linked/2019/04/26/johnston-macbook-keyboard

I give him credit for having the cajones to say that. That carries some weight for someone who generally / is notoriously known to makes up excuses for Apple's shortcomings.

The butterfly keyboard is my favorite keyboard I've ever used. Just hoping the reliability of mine stays strong.

Apple only cares about the revenue, in the process it has killed the Mac as a Pro product. My own observations; it's an exodus as no one is remotely interested in consumer grade hardware with known hardware issues.

Apple's execs should be fully ashamed at the sorry state of the Mac, it's just a joke now...

Seriously, if so then Apple is clearly and obviously clueless about it's own designs o_O I work with material scientists, mechanical & electronic engineers, as a rule we fully understand the limitations of the hardware.

Currently Apple notebooks are fabulous with a good expresso, tasked with serious workloads a ****ing joke. Reap what you sow...

Q-6

I'll take my expresso with a Pinebook, perfect for the Starbucks experience. Light weight, stylish white, and it thinks different with Linux. For Panera I will go with my Surface Laptop.

On point, it will be interesting to see how long Apple does go with this design. At first I thought they might never fix it as they seemed to be losing interest in the Mac. Now however it seems to have dawned on them that it is not a good idea to just be a phone company.

if they improved that, and added some height, it would be my favorite I've ever used. sadly it isn't, I don't hate the keyboard but reliability is shady from statistics, and thats a problem for something that is imperative for a laptop.

I love the butterfly mechanism feeling, I always just long for more travel/key height. I like feeling like I'm mashing buttons not an almost surface level thing.

I like my 2017 MBP's keyboard and it has been flawless for the past year.

Does that count or do we still believe that all of them are broken and I'm not entitled to my opinion?

Refer to SoyCaptain's post. Sadly if you have a differing opinion to the majority on MR you're seldom part of the conversation.

I enjoy the butterfly keyboard quite a bit. I havent had an issue with my 2018 Pro or air but my daughters 2017 pro did fail. Took 2 days to get fixed.

I picked up a 2015 Pro refurb last Tuesday at Microcenter for a beater laptop around the warehouse. I type much slower on that and made way more typos. Its boxed up and going back simply because of the keyboard. I used to love it and now I hate it. Guess Im in the “minority”.

I think there are a lot more of us that like the keyboard - but choose to keep quiet. If you're not part of the Apple Sucks, Apple is a dying company, Tim Cook is ruining Apple, Apple Keyboard is the worst keyboard in the world crowd then obviously something is wrong with you. :) I say this with some sarcasm because I know quite a few of the posters in this thread aren't part of all groups.
