Nope. Apple Pencil will do nothing on other iPads. This is a little off topic, but has anyone tried using the Pencil on an Air 2 or Mini 4? I know they don't officially support it but I'm curious if they unofficially support it![]()
What? How does it matter what type of OS it is, when the basic interaction with the keyboard and the touchscreen is the same?Apple said, it is unergonomic on the Desktop, never on iOS.
Big difference here, I think.
You vaguely mention hipocresy, care to elaborate.
To further - I think the use of the word "Pencil" is limiting for what it does. It's not a Pencil. They just made it "look" like one. But on a tablet, it can be a pen, pencil, marker, paint brush, crayon, stamp, etc.
back then it was about a stylus being mandatory to operate a screen
I'm glad Apple makes good design decisions instead of adding garbage like a mouse or trying to converge two devices not meant for it. Microsoft could stand to learn a few things
Um, you can absolutely open Apps with the Apple Pencil, and scroll through e.g. Safari with it.
You see the resemblance between the surface and iPad pro ? When docked in a keyboard and running a full desktop OS, a mouse is not a dumb decision.
Works very well, the only annoying user journey is that you cannot close the the app, so you have to press the home button. Which is weird when you are using the pencil for navigation.
It'll be there. Just give Apple a few years to invent it.I just think it's such a big mistake to not do a Windows style two UI...
It never was though.
Resistive touch screens were in use "back then", and they never mandated a stylus – you could easily use your finger to click things. Rather poor accuracy with a finger of course (i-screens are not that accurate with fingers too, because fingers are fat, in fact they use clever algorithms to guess where you intended to click), but worked well for big buttons (and you can use anything to control it, they detected pressure).
Pre-iPhone smartphones could be operated with finger just as well, for example.
It's a great device and I love mine , though it's painful reading these interview snippets at the hypocrisy of apple having copied Microsoft. Suddenly all the design and Ui issues with using a touch based laptop replacement with a sylus have gone away in the surface clone that is the iPad pro with the keyboard setup.
Technically it can only be the stylus as the first iPads did have keyboard docks.
I agree, At my local store yesterday, tried to buy 128 one for GF (I have 128 also) and they were sold out by 1100 hrs, sales guy said the slate greys are the most popular. Still no keyboards or pencils either.I was at two Apple stores today and they said they're selling iPPs and Pencils as fast as they can get them in.
Stylus is latin for an writing instrument that was used to etch in clay. The word is still used in english to mean an object used in writing, drawing, or engraving. Stylo means pen in French.
The idea that stylus is too rooted in technology is completely false. It's very much the opposite. It's a simple item that works very much like the apple "pencil." They just wanted it to sound different, and he had some stupid spin on it.
It's absurd the amount of people that misuse what Steve jobs said
I should be able to connect a mouse / trackpad / keyboard with trackpad and that's it.![]()
Didn't Apple at one point say touchscreen navigation on Surface like tablets is unergonomic and people should not be reaching up from the keyboard to touch the screen to navigate? So what makes touchscreen navigation on the iPad Pro ergonomic when it has a keyboard docked like shown above?
Don't "correct" people for calling apps software. That's ridiculous. Apps ARE software. People can use whatever terms they like.
I personally see the iPad Pro as an enterprise play.
You really missed the point in favor of trying to make a witty sarcastic remark.Thumbs up and I agree. It probably will just add confusion to those less smart Apple users who bought a tablet with the expectation of using it to carry drinks on around their homes.
What exactly makes the iPad Pro a Surface clone? Technically it can only be the stylus as the first iPads did have keyboard docks. So that stylus/pencil is what is causing your "pain"?
Pain? lets be adults here.
Just pointing out a relationship. If you don't see one, you never will, many do. In my opinion my ipad pro has alot of accessories that the surface first came out with, and the way they interact and fold on the "tablet"

I should have said Surface RT to be clear. Which Microsoft dumped cause the users were not interested in such a device.
