will they cut it out!
They only ever release Apple products in god awful colors these days. (of the ones that are a "color") But this limited edition stuff that will doubtless go for a years salary (at median income), I would actually buy If it was a regular product!
Iphone 5c gets a technicolor yawn.
A Red Mac Pro just begs to have 4k video edited on it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE release a version of this with FCP X and some max config video cards.
I mean it sounds kinda silly, but hey, prosumer videographers don't think twice about dropping a grip of money on a lense or a camera body.
A $6000-7000 Red Mac Pro would sell easily. Even $10,000, which is what a max config Mac Pro cost us earlier this year. Though those boxes came with more ram.

@#$#% Apple….somehow they are just wearing me down. I was one of those $2499 TOPS guys. But the more I see this thing the more I have to wipe away the drool. Haven't even seen the performance numbers or upgradeability info, and yet I STILL have a hard time NOT picturing this under the Xmas tree.

I am so weak….

I think a lot of people on this thread are missing the fact that this is for charity and is supposed to be expensive and raise money.

Personally I think its a great idea.

Jony Ive designed it? "...Yes, paint it red. I am a master of design."
I think he took lessons from Christo

----------

1. Brand recognition...Apple single-handedly made plain white a 'cool' color so much so that it has transcended businesses: the most desired color for cars in the USA is now WHITE replacing long time 1# color silver. And of course plain black...ditto the reasoning.

Technically I think it was Lou Reed who made plain black cool.

Another auction item.

Who originally designed it..How hard is it to change something from black to red... :\

It seems prior to today Ive was at least partially responsible for the design. Now apparently all he's responsible for is taking someone else's design and painting it red. So I guess everyone who hates the Mac Pro will need to find a new whipping boy. :)

Looks like the internals of R2D2......

That's some expensive coke there.

(Now, how is your thirst ??) ....

That looks even more amazing than the black Mac Pro. If only colour choice was one of the configuration options on the Apple Store.

I wonder if someone would make a clear cover so you could see the insides of the computer

There's a concept image online. Looks even cooler than the red one, I think, but of course it's red for Product (RED).

Raised 65 million in 7 years by a company that has made since 2006 about a 100 billion in profits?

Boo hoo
Maybe if more people bought Product (RED), they'd raise more, but they didn't. Did you buy any?

What happens when everyone else figures out how to re-anodize their own Mac Pros, and suddenly this "unique" product isn't so unique anymore?

Seems like a license to print money, if you can re-colour these machines and sell them on eBay or something for $$$$ as one-of-a-kind.

If I had the money I would buy it in a heartbeat, this is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen before, unfortunately however it is wayyyy out of my league.

I love the look of this. I wish Apple were making it as a regular production colour - about 15 years ago I worked in a computer lab that was full of SGI machines. I worked on a Mac, and I was always jealous, just because the SGI boxes looked so weird and cool with their different colours and cases.

A red Mac Pro would be a welcome addition to Apple's world of black and aluminium and glass.

What's with the pretentious "Jony Ive Designs...." headline?

He painted a trash can Mac Pro red. Nothing more.

And it's not a stroke of design genius to do nothing more than paint a "Product (Red)" item red.

That's right guys, keep chipping away at its perceived value. Maybe we can get them to lower the price down to $5K or something. That'll be better for everyone, won't it?

What is it that they exactly designed in this mac pro is that is different than the one that will be sold? They just painted it red as far as I can see.
