Jony Ive Designs One-of-a-Kind Red Mac Pro for Product (RED) Charity Auction

I bet the circuit board will be red too, if they're shipping this before it's available to other customers. (Don't preproduction Macs and iOS devices have red circuit boards? Or did they stop doing that at some point? I haven't heard about them surfacing in a while... not sure if that means they're just getting better at stopping leaks or they just stopped that practice of making them red...)
 
Looks great in red.

I don't believe it is a special design though. Just looks like a red anodized version of the original. I understand the asking price is due to charity, not build price, however I assume one could get theirs modified for much less money :) .

Depending on how much work it is to take one apart, I would assume one could send their case to a company that refinishes aluminum components.

Personally, I would love a Brushed aluminum version of the Mac Pro, no color, just the bare metal.
 
my two favourite colours are black and red. Now I want two of those beasts.

If Apple is listening they should produce such a color for us, the little consumers.

Oy vey. It's for an "AUCTION FOR CHARITY". It's not about the product, it's about the cause. Apple is not going to just take the cash and run. The person that's going to buy it may not even use it. It's more of a token of the special design and cause behind it.

I completely agree with you guys! I always buy the Product (RED) versions of their products when they are available. It would be so neat if the Mac Pro was widely available in the Product (RED) color.
 
Interesting, Dieter Rams and George Lucas have donated items to this auction. I'd love to see what they are.

We’ve reached out to (RED) and Apple to see if they have any more details to share. Jony And Marc’s (RED) Auction has garnered donations from a bunch of other designer types like Deiter Rams, clothiers like Christian Louboutin and artists like George Lucas.

Just add the black plastic boots and gloves around it.

Anyone else wanting product RED versions of the mac pro now? Although colour obviously won't change sales, if they had black, RED and white versions it would look so nice
