I've worked on the other side of this, organizations looking for funding. Lots of people have loads of money but they are careful how they hand it out. Most of them do NOT what to be the primary source of funds for your group. They want to see your group widen its funding base. Apple may be working this way saying they will give no more then 10% or whatever f the groups total. So what you to is approach a diner and explain how we have a grass roots effort to raise funds and six larger donors and how we'd like to expand to 8 or even 12 larger donors. Show the books that explain how the money is spent and then what we'd d if there was more. Most people are smart and give just enough so you can expend just a little.

So, do NOT complain that Apple is not dumping a ton of cash of these guys. Ramping it up slowly is what most foo and it is smart.

Many donors like to give matching funds, that is contribute $1 for each $1 your group raises from other sources. Apple is doing this too. They are giving away a $12,000 computer (I assume this unit is fully spec'd with every option) And then this will sell for $40K to $60K
Tim Cook donating 100 million thats news, appe donating 30k is nothing .

No, you're not the only one, ALL people I have shown this thing (in black) though it's from ugly to ridiculous. Indeed, some though it was an ashtray or an umbrella stand. Now is equally ridiculous but in red.

For me is not only a really basic and ugly design, the worse is the stupidity of to force an unnecessary shape and size, simply for a matter of a visual whim, and at the expense of a higher manufacturing cost and the complete lost of internal capability.

The icing on the cake of the Ive's tomfoolery is the lack of USB connector in the front. Should I go to the other side of the table or turn the mac (with all the external hard drives your'e going to need) every time I'll need to insert a USB memory???????

First you want functionality over form, drop the whole Apple link, get a cheap PC clone and install Linux and have at it.

Apple is a fashion company with technology as their medium. Looks and functionality drives sales and not performance.

let's pool our money together and place a bid!

we can let Arn have a turn with it first, and then we'll rotate ownership!

best of all... we can use it as a tax write-off since it's for charity.

Well how do you do it on an iMac or a Mac mini then, what a ridiculous comment. Theres never a need for a USB port on the FRONT. That front could be anywhere in a persons studio or office. Think about it. IF you want a usb port within hands reach you should take your own USB 3 extension cable and mount it EXACTLY where you want in the perfect position.

Yeah the apple bras probably uses the same logic.

Well I donated either in taxes or person a lot more then 0.065% of my net income.

My point is that this is absolute BS, BS to make some people feel as if they actually do something to help. But when it really matters those same people will save any penny in taxes for apple or for themselves.

Hypocrits .

A Hypocrite claims a virtue but acts contrary... Doesn't really seem to apply here. It's great that you give so much to AIDS research, but it doesn't make Apple a bunch of hypocrites if they donate a lesser percentage of their money than you do. Really, as a publicly held company they actually shouldn't give any more than their shareholders are comfortable with. Not that this is necessarily moral, but that's the system under which they operate... so, not hypocritical.

Anyhow, your complaints seem really mean-spirited. $65 million isn't B.S. no matter how much money they make.

wtf, this does not look better than the black one in my opinion. The black one looks bad***! :D

But I will admit this looks classy.

This Pro is sweet. I would be proud to own it. Hope it auctions off for a bundle. Be nice to see a couple of rich folks go crazy for it. Charities deserve all they can get.

Maybe Mr. Gates will be interested. He and his wife are quite the philanthropists. Ya never know! Would maybe be his first real kick at the can so to speak. LOL!

I don't know you, but I buy computers to do my work (and earn money), not to stare at them, and I choose Apple a lot of years ago for is OS not for external aspects, because it was more productive.

So I need a computer as powerful and practical I can pay for, not a ugly-round-expensive-thing without space not even for a hard drive

And it's funny, it seems you could buy a Apple fashionable car without steering wheel if magic Ive happened to find it unfashionable

*red keyboard and mouse sold separately for $5000 each.

...seriously, who will buy this? interesting point I think, but I reckon nobody on this forum will even get close to buying this device.

Think about that for a bit

They give because they pretend to care, but in fact the amount they give is so low and needs so high it basicly comes to nothing.

While apple actually can spend to give a whole lot more. 100 million on lawsuits, tens of millions on lobbyists or the tens of billions it keeps overseas to not pay taxes on it.

It all screams profit making machine, so this paltry charity remains that.

Yet another Jony Ive freakshow product. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't have to use the products he designs in the same way that his customers have to.

Looks good, but since when is painting something a different color considered "designing".

Er, so you don't think he was involved in designing the Mac Pro? Seem to me this is a custom version of something he was part of designing. But hey, if he wasn't involved then all the people complaining about it will have to find some one else to blame. :D

What is really ridiculous is to design this "perfect" round-thing, sell it as a genial design.... and latter have it rounded with external units for hard drives, optical drives, audio interfaces, or extension cables. All of then internal with a clever box like actual Macpro

Yes, extension cables to be able to insert a USB stick.
Think a little, please.

And talking about iMac and Mac mini, my opinion is the same. Is equally stupid not to have a frontal or, at least, lateral USB port, or, for a size reduction of 1 cm, be forced to 2,5" HD (Mac mini) or to prevent the possibility of user change of the internal HD (new iMac)

As a matter of fact, all future apple desktop line is going to be a complete showroom of stupid design with really perfect engineering

Yes you are.

No, it's not
