Raised 65 million in 7 years by a company that has made since 2006 about a 100 billion in profits?

lol ... I like it .... I just freckin like it...

Red Mac Pro....... Ah, that's hillarious.

Now, it will be available in all different colours .. :) How about them Apples.

Apple should totally do this in the store....

Blown away!

Does that make it worth more?

It always does. That's the point of charity auction. You donate your money, the goodies is nothing more than icing on the cake.

We may never be THAT rich to finally understand and participate in such an event so I think it's best to keep the complaint for yourself.

a can of Coca-Cola...

you beat me to it. a $40,000 coke can.

No offense to Jony Ive, but all he did was paint it red. That's hardly designing in my opinion. If Jony Ive really designed it, he'll probably color it pastel red, and call it unapologetic red.

If they really want to help out Product (RED), why don't they just mass-produce this red version? I'm certain it will sell like crazy.
I'm with you--it's possible the red coating is unusually expensive to do, so it's not practical, but assuming not, selling a somewhat more expensive (Red) version that donated the extra cost to charity would give those who wanted the flashier one an option, and would probably cumulatively raise drastically more than this for the charity.

Heck, I vastly prefer my electronics in black, and I'd consider it--it looks really nice.

Um, you don't think he was involved in designing the Mac Pro?

Your point? How close have you gotten to being responsible for $65 million for AIDS in the last 7 years? Or any charity, for that matter?

Yeah the apple bras probably uses the same logic.

Well I donated either in taxes or person a lot more then 0.065% of my net income.

My point is that this is absolute BS, BS to make some people feel as if they actually do something to help. But when it really matters those same people will save any penny in taxes for apple or for themselves.

Hypocrits .

Amen...he sucks at it.

Charity? One of a kind?

Even if its for charity, they should atleast offer something that is more valuable instead of simply changing color and put more 0s on the price tag. I mean come on now, high-end version starts from $4k and i doubt they can configure it up to $30k worth of components.

Would you buy a chocolate bar for $50k because its for charity?

I've worked on the other side of this, organizations looking for funding. Lots of people have loads of money but they are careful how they hand it out. Most of them do NOT what to be the primary source of funds for your group. They want to see your group widen its funding base. Apple may be working this way saying they will give no more then 10% or whatever f the groups total. So what you to is approach a diner and explain how we have a grass roots effort to raise funds and six larger donors and how we'd like to expand to 8 or even 12 larger donors. Show the books that explain how the money is spent and then what we'd d if there was more. Most people are smart and give just enough so you can expend just a little.

So, do NOT complain that Apple is not dumping a ton of cash of these guys. Ramping it up slowly is what most foo and it is smart.

Many donors like to give matching funds, that is contribute $1 for each $1 your group raises from other sources. Apple is doing this too. They are giving away a $12,000 computer (I assume this unit is fully spec'd with every option) And then this will sell for $40K to $60K

Hahahaha, the hecklers are on today.

Still, that thing is bad ass. I can see an aftermarket for painting MPs.

An all chrome one would be cool in my book (like the ones in the manufacturing vid before the black's put on).

I'd take it..but won't be buying it.

Give me my old Mac Pro any day over this. It simply doesn't have the upgradeability a lot of users who opted for the big silver shiny beast need/want. More memory..throw some in...easy....more hard drive space...buy one and slam it in ( I have all four bays full!) Blu-ray drive..pickup one on amazon and throw it in. The new one looks a helluva lot cooler and it'd be nice to set it up on my desk...but I want a computer...not an amp'd up mac mini...have one of those already!:(

There is going to be a nice aftermarket for new Mac Pro covers. One outfit I know of is making a translucent case with lost of slots and interior lighting. Personally, I want a Mac Pro anodized in cobalt blue.

Am I the only one who thinks this is ugly as ****?

No, you're not the only one, ALL people I have shown this thing (in black) though it's from ugly to ridiculous. Indeed, some though it was an ashtray or an umbrella stand. Now is equally ridiculous but in red.

For me is not only a really basic and ugly design, the worse is the stupidity of to force an unnecessary shape and size, simply for a matter of a visual whim, and at the expense of a higher manufacturing cost and the complete lost of internal capability.

The icing on the cake of the Ive's tomfoolery is the lack of USB connector in the front. Should I go to the other side of the table or turn the mac (with all the external hard drives your'e going to need) every time I'll need to insert a USB memory???????

Suck it up and get used to it.

The need for a tower enclosure is waning with the advent of high speed serial buses surpassing the speed and performance of parallel bus architectures that have been around for almost fifty years now.

You want to keep your bays and PCI cards? There are plenty of aftermarket enclosures that will house these with a Thunderbolt 1 or 2 port connecting to a Mac Pro or other CPU boxes.

These high speed serial port connectors are cheaper than parallel bus connectors. That drives the market.

The Daisy Chain has been avenged!
