I am super fit, 155# size 32, thank you for asking!
AND, I don't mind my iMac 1" deep because I can change the HD and RAM anytime I want. :)

I'm making fun of Ive's obsessive-compulsive thing with thinning *everything* to the point of damaged functionality, such as the new iMac and MacBook Pro.

With all these "Chiefs" at Apple it still wreaks of a company with no true leadership. Sadly, since Jobs passing they have been market followers. Albeit they've done an excellent job keeping pace with overall build quality. Software design is going down the toilet, and the watch, although quite beautiful, has yet to prove itself.

But, with all the money and influence they have now. It's unlikely they can be dethroned by anyone or risk market attrition. If anything they need to be careful of their predictions in order to keep investors happy. If the stock price starts falling for any reason, then, you might see real change in Apple's management. Which isn't necessarily a good thing.

Bottom line, show us someone who CAN do better today, then talk trash all you like :)

Oh come on. He is a public figure and of course he is going to be judged on his appearance. To be honest he looks like a normal 50-ish family father (both in European and American terms...).

What I question is more the way these guys dress. No need to dress in a suit all the time, but in what culture is a non-fitting t-shirt the proper dress-code for an interview with photos?

----------

Well, it is all a matter of taste, isn't it?

I think this size is brilliant and the previous iPhones are too small. I have never inadvertently turned it off and the camera lens doesn't bother me at all, honestly. I only think those bands could have been handled in a different way.

I forgot: it bends.

I agree about their non-existent dress sense. It's a shame that the two most important men at Apple (and Stephen Fry) choose to dress like tramps. In fact, it's a shame that men generally dress so badly these days. Women as well, though to a lesser extent. I would like to see a change to men, women and children dressing smartly as a matter of course. Italians tend to dress well, or, at least, they did when I last visited seven years ago.

I love the size of my iPhone 5. I have not bought a 6 because I almost dropped it in the shop due to its thinness. I also found it hard to use one-handed, which is the main point of the iPhone. When I want a bigger screen, I use my iPad, which is much nicer than the iPhone 6.

I'd rather be fat and unshaven and have a loving, gentle personality than fit, slim and full of myself, with no respect for people's feelings. By outward appearance is how fools judge people.

This thread is dredging up the bottom feeders...

Have a nice day.

thinning *everything* to the point of damaged functionality,

Everything except OS X. For years, my old MBP ran just fine with 4 GB. Under Yosemite, it suddenly is experiencing memory pressure.

Apple ostensibly is following a "form follows function" design philosophy, but, in actuality, it has turned into "function follows form", where the only devices Apple will sell are super-thin. Because of that, Apple does not sell a Mobile Workstation, since there is no way to make that super-thin and slick because of the required airflow. That is OK is everything is a client and the servers and storage are either in the corporate or commercial cloud. But, sometimes you need more graphics horsepower next to your CPU. Too bad.

BBC said it right this morning referring to Apple as a "luxury brand." I still want a computer from Apple in a plastic box designed by Frog. With a desktop i7 and drive bays of course. These clowns won't sell me one.

I'm not so worried about Ive as I am about Alan Dye becoming head of Interface Design. He headed ID for the Watch, which is a jumble of interface ideas, some that work and some that are terrible. Dye comes from the Marketing dept. and has no interface and UX background, yet here he is now captaining that whole ship. Very worrisome.

Hey, anything is better than the velour jumpsuits Jony used to wear during Apple interviews:

Not that we all haven't worn something wacky over the decades due to strange fashion fads. Woof! :D

Seriously, I agree. It's even weirder that Apple execs seem to dress alike with shirts hanging out. Little individuality.

So do you have anything useful to actually say here? Show me your idea of good design and what is wrong with OSX in your eyes?

----------

oh look here's another one...

It's like me going on a BMW forum (when I have a range rover) and slating everything they do for no reason at all. I've no idea what goes through their heads... It's like they are not wired correctly. I wonder if they do the same on Linux forums?

"I MUST GET MY POINTLESS HATRED ACROSS"

Is my comment really bothering you that it needs to be quoted twice in the same reply?

Apple changed the look for just the change when everything was looking beautiful as is.
Why did they have to make the OS to look as ugly as Windows?

BTW, your argument is totally invalid because you have no idea what computer and consumer product I am using. Thank you very much.

he just wanted a title with letters O C and D in it.
I have OCD so do many of my family members. I like Ive's attention to detail and creative designs and if he has OCD then instead of bashing it's best to let it be. It's like poking fun at someone who suffers anxiety or depression. Even if you don't agree with or like his work... Not cool.
I'm not trying to start an argument, just saying keep in mind OCD is serious and not the best thing to make light of.

They could all take a page from the Italian handbook of proper dressing in casual situations: a light colored dress shirt (tucked in), nice jeans (dark, no holes), leather shoes (brown, not cheap black leather), belt matching the shoes. Wear a grey jacket to dress it further up.

And all those Germans who came face to face with Hitler didn't dare to confront his evil. I guess that makes them cowards, too.

It does indeed. Have you seen a winner or innocent person apologizing? No, because both of them don't need to.

Now go ask some Germans about WWII. You see.

We didn't know blah blah blah it was a complicated era blah blah blah. BS.

Really? You realize this is a promotion. He's basically just been promoted to "Steve Jobs' duties" minus the CEO title. Jony is effectively ascending to Jobs role at the company. It's been that way for a while, they just made it official and gave him a proper title for it. Which will actually allow him to spend more time with his family, and also spend more time being an artist rather than an executive. Any piece of creative work, he's now in charge, has the final say, is the focus group, etc. Just like Jobs used to be. And Tim was always like the real CEO that did the typical CEO work for Jobs while he spent all of his time in design and marketing.

it's a strategy to bring two new faces into the spotlight the way i see it. if jony announced that he was retiring last week, stock would have plummeted substantially more than now.

I have a feeling that we'll see one more major new product from Jony before he departs.

----------

No. More scary is looks to be a "try out" to sit in the CEO chair eventually. They are basically expanding his roles to have him interact with more parts of the company and managing larger groups of folks.

... hardware designers
.... software + hardware designers
.... software + hardware + physical plant builder designers (stores )

there are more limited scale design projects so he still has a relatively small team working with to keep design activity up, but he is sitting on top of larger and larger components of the company.

Cook ran the Mac products before ran operations for whole company before got the CEO seat.

He does have buckets of money so may retire. However, when Bob Mansfield went on the retirement trend and his titles got smaller over time.on the retirement track.... not bigger. Being a 'C' level officer in a company typically means more visibility at corporate governance meetings and activities ... not less.

Perhaps it is a gimmick to keep him in more narrowly focused design projects. Gets out of Apple products for end users and does the HQ and chairs and desks. Apple has done much to make him the ghost of Jobs as far as being the deity that the cult is suppose to view as walking on water. Kind of hard to retire the Pope without dying ( along normal traditions ).

Jony doesn't want to be a CEO though.

I really adore Ive's design, as much as I adore the designs of the people who inspired him. I find the hatred against him hard to understand. Just because he is European and can pronounce aluminium properly seems to be a valid reason to be horrible about him. I think, he coped very well with his fame. He doesn't come across as some arrogant idiot. And I hope he can now spend some time in the EU, to actually see how many features we are missing over here, that have been available in other places for years.
