yes i do know what a leica camera is lol. i have a hasselblad..... (albeit 10 years old)
im not a photographer by trade but my digital rig:

5d mk2
lenses:
35mm f.14L
50mmf1.4L
85mm f1.2l
16-35 f2.8L (older mark 1)

yes i do know what a leica is. so you dont have to flaunt brands at me, I understand
and im saying they should make a limited 'dirt-cheap' version just for charity. that's the 'giving' bit.
sell it for 6 months. make a boatload of those. make it like its a 'baby' leica..
sort of how Martin makes the LX1 guitar for $299, when their HD28V retails for like $3.5k..
Or how Grado sold the HF1 to just head-fi members for a lot cheaper than their regular line.
or how BMW makes the little electric car for kids, for $1,000....

1, it exposes more of the market to the leica brand. 2, it will sell like hotcakes, people will buy the thing just for the name. Good for the cause.

You would have to pull the RF out as it is one of the most expensive parts in an M.

They may do a "baby M" (doubtful now that they just released the X-Vario) but it isn't going to be $1000. People really need to reign in their unrealistic expectations.

Looks great, but for use I think it's too smooth.

I use a battery grip and ThumbsUp on my mine, and this doesn't look like it even has a hotshoe mount.

Reminds me of the iSight camera. Sadly, all those holes aren't for an amazing stereo mic like the iSight has.

I don't like this design as a whole, I prefer the designs of the original product much much more. And as someone already mentioned, a (built to order :p) Hermes is even a lot better than the original.
Incidentally, the lens on this camera is the best 50mm ever made. It alone (not the camera body) costs some $7k+, so Leicas are expensive. You pay a premium for miniaturization and lightness. This is an excellent design with a legacy of more than 60yrs. It can't get any better: it does the job for more than half a century.
Apple is in a better position to sell RED products than Leica, but on the other hand, every bit helps. So, good hob in the end

I use Leica cameras and optics....Jony..please dont screw around with the design I kind of like my things un-flat!....:D

and......it's a camera and a cheese grater and a shaver...get it.....a camera, a cheese grater and a sh.......

Maybe Ive should focus more on iOS 7 then working on these side projects. Just proves my point that Ive just blindly rubber stamped approval for iOS 7 designs and concentrated only on hardware. They just used his name to sell us iOS 7.

How does that prove anything?

whilst not to my taste at all (then most Leica stuff never has) - it's nice to see something like this for charity.

as for the comments about Ive spending time on this when he should have been on iOS7: poppycock! everyone needs outlets away from their main line of work, else go completely bonkers.

Apple still has to profit off its own charity products (entire RED line). Despicable.

I really hope your being sarcastic.

Leica already make cameras that sell for less than $1000! The M isnt one of them and it never will be.

Well Bono said he hoped it would fetch $1M.

I believe Red get 1% of their profits to the needy, the rest is admin and lobbying

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ion-giving-tiny-percentage-funds-charity.html

So lots of millionaires will have a big party, feel better about themselves and write off their bids for tax reasons buying toys they don't need.

Do love Ive's designs, but 850 models?
How much is his and teams time worth?

Condoms are 10p - how many million could be bought if we really cared about aids in Africa?

Chris Morris, the UKs leading political interviewer savages such things:

Only 1% of the money RED raises goes to charity? I have a hard time believing that (and an article from the rag Daily Mail isn't convincing).

calling it rag is being very kind to that paper of hate and lies.

I'd say it looks like the cheap thin aluminium grills you see on desktop computer speakers. I'd so not spend my $ on that. Wow, stick to iMac Sir Ive.

Most Leica rangefinder bodies end up unused/still in box and stored as collectors items.

Little of Product RED money is actually going to the charity. The whole RED thing is about "cause marketing" and a way for super high net worth individuals to party and then use the costs of all entertainment as a tax write off.

You don't know leica cameras do you?

The normal retail price for production versions of this camera is $7,000. Of course it would sell fast for $1K. These are hand made in Germany and come with a 36x24mm sensor and Leica optics. It is arguable one of the best cameras made.

For $1K, yes they woud sell fest, But so would new BMWs if offered for $12K. Or maybe a new Mac Pro for $100.

Definitely. I'd buy 3 of each of those. And that's just today.
