LOL. Great example. I'm sick of Lightning.

It really is time for Lightning to go... Apple is all in on USB Type C, they helped create it. I think they're afraid of dealing with the backlash of switching again so soon. Despite the fact that their competitor's phones have gone from mini-USB, proprietary shaped connectors, micro-USB, MHL, and finally USB Type C in a shorter time than Apple started with the 30 Pin connector. It's harder for Apple because the hardware accessory ecosystem for the iPhone and iPod is so huge and they will be scrutinized for it.

Yup, its better to have to pull your phone out to control iTunes instead of being able to feel the control in your pocket and be done within 2 seconds.

Ive is taking this minimalism concept waaaaay too far. Sure, theres beauty in straight lines and simple curves with no interruptions but eventually we're gonna be holding a piece of glass as thin as a credit card...... what is that going to accomplish?

The only slimming down that was ever required was to allow devices to fit in your pocket or weigh less... at this point it's just "Device Anorexia"

"After time, however, many customers usually learn to adapt. Google even removed the headphone jack on the Pixel 2 this year."

Forcing your customers to adapt rather than meeting and exceeding their needs is policy that leads to failure. Ive's attitude always strikes me as arrogant.
Yep. How about Bluetooth and the accessory makers adapt to make their pairing work better? I'm sorry, but I gave up on BT after the 10 years of dealing with that nonsense. No headphone jack is just worse, period. The new iPhone isn't even noticeably thinner than my 6, so IDK what they even gained by doing that, other than AirPods sales.

Honestly, my iPhone 6S is pretty much all I want from a phone.

It needed waterproofing, which the 7 got, buuuut you lost the hp jack.

It's always been one step forward, three steps back with Apple.

I swear things are coming to a head between me and them.

Perhaps a clean break is in my near future, but my 2011 Macs are running quite nice still.

Apple's just making sure that when they die, I'm GONE.

Excited to see what features they remove next year!

FaceID across the board, probably not just next year but years to come. That's why it baffles me why add TouchID on a MacBook when you know you already have this tech in-house? Why not just wait till it's featured THEN introduce it to all your product line that can be accessed securely via FaceID (iPhone, iPad, MacBook)?

Both Apple and Google are working on that with their own solutions, and my understanding of Bluetooth 5.0 is that they're adding tap to pair at some point.

Definitely insightful. Still doesn't explain who Apple isn't removing HDD (very old-dated tech) and replacing them with SSD for all their Macs. It's like they only remove features that ultimately benefit them.

Because SSD is still not always necessary for performance or better for cost.
In laptops it make perfect sense. In a desktop for large capacity it's expensive.

Android guys still don't have an edge to edge display, they have obvious bezels and it's not because they're using something like FaceID .
Unless my definition of bezels is different than yours, I see no bezels on this Samsung. This is an edge to edge display and a chin and forehead yes but not side bezels.

How about letting go of the static 4X7 grid of icons and let developers put active content directly on the home screen? Give the customer choices as to what they want to emphasize. I use four or five apps almost exclusively. Let me see my email headers, messages, current weather, and upcoming calendar events on the home screen. Widgets are a stopgap measure that should have transitioned to active content before now.

Isn't that Android you're describing?

Yes Jony, but constantly having to connect to Bluetooth headphones every time i want to listen to something is innovation. By having to purchase an additional wire in order to connect my wired headphone is innovation. By keeping something On when i turned it off is innovation. Really, such terrific solutions !

Are you implying that a grid of apps is better?
Yeah. Simple, clutter-free, no manual required. All the alternatives were common before the iPhone was released.

This was the case before, but Mavericks+ basically requires an SSD to run on. IDK why. It's painfully slow on an HDD.

Yeah, USB could never really do the job, so I'm glad Apple had Lightning. I really wouldn't mind it today if it weren't so glitchy. Sick of those "not genuine cable" warnings (on genuine cables), like DRM all over again. And the cables themselves are expensive, once the included one inevitably frays.

Chin and forehead are bezels. This isn't my definition or yours, a bezel is in every direction not just the sides.

This is a bezel, getting rid of the sides is not bezel-less.

Apple removes nearly all ubiquitous ports from a $2K+ MacBook Pro, replaces them with a new standard available only on a tiny percentage of peripherals, and doesn't even bother to put an $8 adapter in the box.

Yes, out with the old and in with the new, but that's taking it way too far.

They don't include the adapters because using an adapter would cut into battery run time.

The marketing department does not want the complaints.

No Mac that Apple sells today should have an HDD as its boot drive, never mind one that is running at 5400rpm. There's no excuse for it and it only makes for an unnecessarily frustrating user experience.

But, hey, let's hold on to that feature.

What a ridiculously obvious thing to say. From a Marketing standpoint, does it make sense to hang on to something that works well and has been perfected and then you can't get people to buy your new models?

Remember when Apple came out with the sunflower iMacs? What a great idea - you could rotate, tilt, raise/lower the screen. It was awesome. Bye bye.

Remember when Apple came out with the handle on the iBook? A spring-loaded handle for easy carrying. What a great idea. RIP.

Remember when Apple came out with the MagSafe connector? Another great idea. See ya!

So basically all their ideas are great and foretell the future - until they decide to can it, then it was a lousy idea with no legs, I guess...

You know that notch that we're all supposed to embrace? Well don't hug it too hard, because I'll bet that's going away.

"Oh, you've got the old notch iPhone...check out my new iPhone XI with the seamless edge-to-edge screen and no ugly notch!"

So, we should have a magsafe, sunflower, spring loaded, iMac and iBook right now? Magsafe was great and I'm weary of buying a new Macbook without but unless they can come up with Magsafe USB C I can understand.

Its hardly clutter-free in my opinion... Its a grid of apps that snap to position and you have no control over. Being able to move apps where you want them to make your home screen clutter free would be ideal. Or, the user option to add other information, like widgets, since we all have different needs.
