It's not like you have much of an option, what with some updates and bug fixes never coming to iOS 6.

So when Cook announced at WWDC last year that iOS 6 was on 93% of eligible devices was that because people didn't have a choice too? Do people only upgrade to new software because they feel they have to? And people do have a choice. They don't have to own an iDevice.

it would be a choice if you could downgrade

as far your last sentence which is so lazy, unimaginative and irrelevant that i wonder why you bother posting it. its been taken to such extremes that customers should thank their lucky stars if they actually get a functioning device for the cash they hand over.

I don't think that the people who do not own an iToy really care about iOS updates, nor were the really addressed at that keynote, or what do you think?

Also, holding my storage hostage unless I "choose" to upgrade isn't really what we in the free world call having a choice.

Exactly. I get tired of having to micromanage storage space on my wife's iPad 2 because of the 3GB that is wasted for the iOS7 "upgrade" that could be better used for her stuff.

Not being able to downgrade software isn't new with iOS 7. And honestly if people hate it that badly then they probably have to go elsewhere because an iOS 6 style UI isn't coming back any time soon, if ever.

you are countering points i didnt make. i said if you could downgrade then it would be a choice.

i also made no mention of the ios7 ui but no argument with your point.

Good thing I have a 128GB iPad (both still on iOS 6). :p

Lucky you! Problem is we shouldn't have to buy more storage just to get around Apple's issues.
I actually do need the storage for something else (comics). After buying an iPad 2 32GB and running out of space the same weekend I got it, I've always opted for the highest capacity model (just not on the Air since I that one, I think I might sell). However, the extra space has proven beneficial for other stuff.

Having used iOS 7 for close to a year on the iPhone 5s and iPad Air, I love the UX but not so much the UI. Yes, iOS 6 is looking pretty stale but some of the graphic design choices made for iOS 7 make me scratch my head. Here's a UI mock up I saw on another website which I think improves user-friendliness.

I'll say this about 7: when I was running 3-6, ZIPPO problems.
Literally none. Now? Now with 7, I get crashes every day.
Yes, I have the lastest .n version. And I have an Air!
I'm talking crashes with NOTHING else running in the background,
crashes with simple apps like "Photos" & "Safari", again, WITH NOTHING ELSE RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND.
iOS 7 stinks.

I have less issues with IOS 7 than with 6 on my ipad 2. IOS 6 was good, but I got constant apps crashes and bad battery life. On IOS 7 battery life is back to normal and get almost no app crashes.

The 3gb is only temporary until iOS 7 has been installed and iOS 6 can be deleated. You can get around it by doing the update via iTunes on your computer. Also you get 5gb free iCloud storage, so you could temporarily transfer content to that until the install is complete.

IOS7 is the antithesis of everything great that made Apple the masters of UI design.

I gotta agree that iOS 7 wasn't their best shot. I still hate the UI after a whole year of using it, and iOS 7.1 only fixed it in tiny places, iOS 8 is taking the same route.

The icons are just plain ugly, there's too much whitespace, the Music App is a scrolling festival, ... It seems like the folks at Google understood flat interfaces only with Android L. Maybe the folks at Apple will understand it next year too.

At least Yosemite is looking good, except for the Dock which looks very 2004-ish.

What if I don't want to upgrade to iOS7?
Why are people being forced to either loose 3GB of memory or upgrade?
Only Apple deals in absolutes.

If I'm right it will only download the update if you go on settings to check if there is an update and there is available space. I had a friend who ran iOS 6 for months without it downloading iOS 7 and had plenty of space left for it.
