I guess he was only involved in design from the back side, which is gorgeous. The front looks like car crash. I haven't seen it in person yet but I saw reviews on Youtube and it still looks as ugly as in promo pics. Fingers crossed that larger version will have at least dark bezels and silver / space gray combinations to look more pro.

I have found that usage of the terms “fugly,” “hellz naw” and “vom color palette” generally does not correspond with qualification to judge whether something is “sissy.” And I only wish such a sentiment was “unspoken” but it’s too late now.

Apple: We think you're gonna love our new iMac, in the traditional silver plus these great new colours!

Qualified judges of "sissy"-ness everywhere, even those not watching the live stream:

Ive without Jobs is like moules frites, without the moules and without the frites.

To take the power source out of the device, to "outsource" the ethernet port, to come up with these pastel nightmare colors the two-tone ugliness and the mandatory white bezels on top are -seen as the full package that it is- an utter DESIGN FAIL.

As if this was not enough, the bean counter CFO -now accidentally elected CEO- decided to kill intel processor Macs and to end Bootcamp.

The iMac was the company's core product, as it now failed, the once praised leading company of industrial design heads towards a second era of dark times. I have been Apple's customer since 1994 and I can tell, that Cook is no different than Scully. He ignores, what the core of the users want, what the professional customers really need. Instead, the company focuses on TOYS.

Don't ask me what happened, when Apple will hit rock bottom. I will just tell You: I told You so.
Oh no! How could Cook kill Intel processors? What will Intel do? What will all the PC makers do? Were Intel processors actually alive?

Lemme guess, Steve Jobs never would have… picked Tim Cook as CEO? Oh wait…

To compare Sculley to Cook in such a way shows a lack of knowledge about either person. Sculley was a marketing expert. Cook is a supply chain expert, and also has proven to be an expert at corporate organization. The product teams are continually coming out with great designs.

Apple sold more Macs last quarter than ever before. And the M1 computers are more powerful than Intel-based computers, while using a fraction of the power.

I will not hold my breath waiting for the “I told you so.” This post is a uninformed melange of nonsensical words strung together with silly string. I doubt anybody who has been an Apple customer for nearly 20 years would revert to the sad and pathetic trope (most commonly used by PC gamers, ironically) that Macs are toys.

In hindsight, power bricks and moving the ethernet out did smell like Ive's fetishes.
No they don’t. The engineering team says there’s a power brick. The design team says what the brick looks like.

Why people can’t understand the difference between these very different disciplines is beyond me.

to look more pro.
Ah yes. Because actually being technically suitable for a professional work load is irrelevant.

Looking like you're a professional based on <checks notes... double checks> the colour of your computer is apparently what's more important.

I mean.. I guess if you just want to look like a pro, but have no idea what types of things "professionals" do, the specs are more than sufficient to..... complain about something on MacRumors I guess?

Very strong finish. You win the internet today.

I don't understand why the mention of Jony Ive causes such cognitive dissonance. Overall his work is amazing.

Black computers and/or bezels ”look more pro” to whom, exactly? I looked at a list of monitors priced below $100 on Amazon just now. Guess what? They ALL have black bezels. Look how PRO these cheap junk monitors are!

Many Mac-using “pros” are creative professionals. You know, people who “think different” from time to time.

Well no wonder he was involved, the obsessive thinness (for a desktop) is a classic telltale. Removing more ports is also a classic Ive thing.
As it should be. One of the main aspects of good design is knowing what is really needed, and what one can take out. What’s left is a simple and elegant design.

Bla Bla ... To compare Sculley to Cook in such a way shows a lack of knowledge about either person. Sculley was a marketing expert. Cook is a supply chain expert, and also has proven to be an expert at corporate organization. ... bla bla
To compare Sculley and Cook is logical. Jobs was somebody with a vision, Sculley and beancounter Cook are Bozos as CEOs.

Apple is still only successful, because of the iPhone and Apples ecosystem (Music, Photos etc...), they are still squeezing out the fruits, Jobs left at the company before he passed away...

all the new products, that came after the iPad, like wireless headphones or a stylus (lol) are lacking groundbreaking innovation. No more creativity left in the company, only the drive to make money, not the drive to change the world... and I am still here not because I hate Apple but because I want Apple back to what it was...

What do you mean consumer displays use black bezels. Surely you remember consumer displays like this bottom tier POS from 2004. A measly $3,300, but still only 30 inches.

No. Jobs yells at everyone and fires the engineering team. The result is an astonishing piece of technology and art. Oh wait, Jobs is no longer around ...

This post is ridiculous. Part of Jobs’ strength was picking good people. They didn’t all quit when he passed away. Anybody who thinks Jobs micro-managed everything at Apple is uninformed. To claim that Apple has just been lucky and riding the coattails of their deceased founder for an entire decade is extremely absurd.

The chin houses the entire computer, logic board.
And? It houses that stuff because they chose to design the machine that way. They could have put it behind the display but they decided to focus on unnecessary thinness instead.

Apple is probably trying to blame him for this trainwreck of a product. Imagine going for this ridiculous bezel instead of a thicker display.

Welcome to the MR forums. No matter what Apple does, people flock here by the thousands to say how terrible it is. Meanwhile, millions go out and buy the products (probably some overlap there too).
The MR forums are legendary for their bile-spewing hate bags who, with an outsized voice commensurate to their actual numbers, poop on just about anything Apple. When Internet denizens frequently warn “read the articles but stay away from the comments!”, they often reference MR as an example.

None of it is necessary. We could still all be using beige boxes hooked to CRTs with VGA cables. If one wants a PC with no style, there are many, many bland options out there.

Really, with WiFi 6 who needs an ethernet port anymore?
Ethernet will always be essential and more stable, but why does one need a second cable (Ethernet) snaking up onto the desktop to clutter the visible workspace? I think that putting the Ethernet port on the (hidden from sight) power brick is brilliant. Thank you, Apple. I only wish there was an Apple logo on the chin, even if just etched into the glass.

I’m okay with the chin and white bezels, but that headphone jack is akin to the first gen Apple Pencil charging solution where the pencil sticks right out of the iPad.
It means you’ll always need room to the side of the iMac, and the cable has to stretch further to you. Why wouldn’t they just move it to the underside/bottom of the chin instead?
Also, Apple mouse charging solution.
No, what the jack on the side means is that we no longer have to stupidly fumble around to find the audio port if we wish to use wired headphones (necessary to hear lossless Apple Music). The speakers fire downward, so there is no room for the jack to face that way.

Standing up and checking the computer’s backside like a proctologist is a ridiculous, hated endeavor that now, at least for the audio jack, is no longer required. Thank you, Apple.

No wonder, the iMac only has like 2-4 USB-C Ports. No USB-A, no Card Reader, no expansion at all
USB-A should have a fork stuck into it already. God, if we keep coddling the “so 2008” crowd that keeps pining for this whip to the horse and buggy, we will never get rid of it. And SD card readers are mostly for photographers, a niche crowd. If you need any of this outdated or niche garbage, just attach a breakout box to the iMac AND BE DONE WITH IT! Sheesh!
