World reknown....which amounts to beans for all it gets you.

The list of Ive's failures are longer than his so-called acomplishments - G4 Cube, Apple Pencil charging, charging port on the bottom of mice, iOS/MacOs UI, any Mac over the last 25 years for improper thermals, lack of proper ports, Butterfly Keyboard, the Trashcan Mac.

Want me to go on?
Exactly. A desktop all-in-one needs to have ports, internal power supply, and design that follows function. Thinness was on no one's wish list for iMac.
Internal power supply why just why . What is a power supply other than a heat generator! Out the case cooling just been reduced by a margin !

Apple often leaves little clues in the design of their products that hint at how the designers envision them being used.

My guess as to the placement of the charge port:

1) Apple doesn’t want the lightning port to mar the unbroken finish of the top of the mouse. It just wants a continuous curve of glass on top. Hence its position at the bottom where it can’t be seen or even felt while in use.

Meanwhile, Apple expects you to charge it so infrequently that it’s a non-issue in the greater scheme of things.

2) Apple doesn’t want people to use their mouse while charging, in keeping with the whole wireless theme.

I am not saying that Apple’s design decisions are the absolute right ones, but it goes to show there is a method to the madness that many people either don’t see, or refuse to acknowledge.
The general missing part for the apple mouse is a simple drop on docking charging plate . Easy enough for a host of third parties and not so much of a hard solution. For me through the next mouse surely should be conductive wireless charging

Yes Apple’s products are terrible. That’s why they can’t keep them in stock and had record Mac sales last quarter. Reminds me of the old joke: “Nobody eats at that restaurant anymore; it’s too crowded.”
It also reminds me of the old saying as well. "there's a sucker born every minute".;)

Chevy sold millions of chevette's too. didn't make them good. Plenty of examples of things that sold well are crap.

Why do people consider Youtubers professional reviewer’s? Like really why?

I agree, most people do not care for the pedantic opinion of elitist social media "influencers" complaining about first world problem trivia like the 'chin'.

Most tech reviewers are nothing more than extended unboxers who add near zero valid criticism. Almost all M1 Mac owners will be blown away irl by the performance, design and usability

ah, finally an explainer for the hideous chin!

There you go - what it would look like without the chin.
I don't think I'd be parting with £1400 for that.

To compare Sculley to Cook in such a way shows a lack of knowledge about either person. Sculley was a marketing expert. Cook is a supply chain expert, and also has proven to be an expert at corporate organization. The product teams are continually coming out with great designs.

And Cook is also a degreed engineer. And though he's not designing circuits or software architectures, that rigorous background speaks volumes, in ways many here would never understand.

Yeah, it's simply too small, for one. The only Apple mouse I've not immediately replaced with a third-party one is the Mighty Mouse, an elegant and useful design with its 360˚ scroll and four buttons, but sadly the scroll ball always gets jammed eventually. The Magic Trackpad is also good if you want a trackpad.

What else:
- older "Apple Pro Mouse": no right click and no scroll wheel, why??
- puck mouse: same drawbacks as the Pro Mouse but even smaller than the Magic Mouse; it's cool, but I have no idea who it's designed for except children
Both one button mouses were designed to work in Gui where right click wasn’t essential. All right click menu items were and ARE accessible from the menu bar unlike other Oses . This is a fundamental element of the classic Mac OS design philosophy

It’s obvious. Jony created the last colored iMacs and his design influence shows here.

Because they make review videos for a living? It’s not like you need any certification to be a reviewer, its literally just an opinion.

It does have a “heterosexual” color option at all price points: silver.

You make a good point, although personally I think the silver is actually the worst of the bunch. It looks bland and insipid to my eyes. In fairness I think I'm just addicted to Space Grey with black accents. Nothing beats it in my opinion. On a more positive note I guess I do actually quite like the orange. That would probably be the one I'd choose with a gun to me head.

i always wander why, since the comments here seem to consist of largely hating on anything apple does, these people are reading the site?

if you hate apple products so much go find something better to do.

I personally think the new iMac is a spectacularly good design. I will buy one for Sure just because it will give me pleasure just to look at it (and it will excel at all the use cases I have).
These forums have always been infested with deluded people that are hyper-fixated on trashing everything Apple says and does. Some of those people (not most, just some) genuinely appear to need to see a psychiatrist.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of everything Apple does. I've always hated the magic mouse, for example. My reaction to trying it and discovering that I hated it wasn't to call for Ive's head or call Apple a "toy company" or whatever crazy things people spew on here. I just returned it and never bought another one again. Some people get personally offended when Apple releases something they don't like- it's just the weirdest thing.

So you haven't liked (bought?) an iMac since 2007 when they went to aluminium? What did you think of the white polycarbonate before that?

Not yet owned an iMac and have never had a strong opinion about them other than absolutely loving the look of the iMac Pro. The new one needs an Apple logo on the chin. I reckon that would make all the difference. They will probably bring it back just like they reintroduced MacBook Pro under the display in 2016. To be clear I’m not moaning about the new machine. It’s just not for me in its current guise. If others like it then more power to them 👍

I'm honestly surprised there aren't already (and I haven't looked so there possibly are) little vinyl stickers to add a logo to the chin already, for sale online (a third party - not the apple ones, I know they're too big).

There's a weird fascination with MacBook Pro stickers amongst developer/technical people so it's not like there aren't existing businesses who probably have artwork and printing facilities.

To be clear I’m not moaning about the new machine. It’s just not for me in its current guise. If others like it then more power to them 👍

No worries. It's depressing how refreshing it is to see someone who can just acknowledge that others like something, and it's not for them.

This looks awful, something we come to expect from HP, Dell & Co...

Apple's design is great. For those of you who complain all the time, have you really seen the new iMacs? Did you go to an AppleStore? Pictures do not do the new iMacs justice. It's really that big of a difference.

Jony Ive is a great designer and he together with Steve made Apple to what it is today. The iconic designs that Apple is famous for, are all of Jony Ive..

And guess what, with the port being located at a different location, it could charge just as fast. This is not even an argument.

Sleek in what way? Such shallow to make it unhealthy for your back of the hand, as most neutral reviewers critically observed? Why not make it, let's say, 3mm higher, keep the gesture stuff the same and move the charging port to the lower front? Zero problem with my MX Master 3. No more need to turn it around like a silly turtle. This design is stupid enough, that it has triggered countless of memes out there. That's what I mean with defending or trying to relativize at flawed design. Maybe you should check your perception of reality first.
The most obvious reason that the keyboard can be charged and used at the same time is that the keyboard doesn’t move while in use, so the cable will not get damaged. The same is obviously not true for the mouse. It’s simple enough really.
