While we can quibble about the execution of the headset and the price of entry, the value of a spatial video is underrated.

Maybe you’re fortunate enough not to have experienced loss in your life, but I’ll be taking quite a few spatial videos now because I know I will want these memories later.

I’ll take these videos because one day these will be my only remaining memory of people and pets I love. Fortunate to have my parents with me today in their 80s - I will be taking a lot of spatial videos with them herein.

4K video will still have a place but add some depth to a few clips and I’m convinced I’m going to always come back to those in the future just to relive a few moments.
This is exactly it. It’s as close as we can get to recording and replaying dreams.

People should remember that the first Mac (128K RAM, a floppy disk for storage, and a 9" screen) at $2,495 would be $7,400 in today's dollars. Apple managed to sell a few of those.

While perhaps not as breakthrough as the first Mac, Apple is entering into a whole new product category. Also... this story is just a tiny sliver of the utility afforded by AVP (and its soon to come along updated devices). There is much more to AR than viewing spatial videos, which basically come along for the ride.

There's pricing to the existing market devices, and then there's redefining the market. Apple has a history of successfully disrupting existing categories. They weren't the first, they just executed it better.

The "firsts" are always expensive when compared to the products they're about to replace, and for the most part shouldn't even be compared against each other...

The first DVD players must have appeared ridiculously priced compared to VHS. Same for the first LCD flat screens vs. CRT prices. Just give it enough time, laptops will cost more than the best VR headsets soon enough.

Spot on assessment!

I am eager to begin my daily routine by settling at my desk and activating VisionPro, enabling my virtual monitors to swiftly assist me in completing my tasks. Spacial videos, movies, and similar distractions hold no appeal for me. I am solely interested in achieving the optimal work environment and ensuring that my desk is impeccable for those moments when I take a break to enjoy a cup of coffee.

Congrats to Apple, they have finally re-invented the ViewMaster!

For those of you who are astounded by the price, you probably don't remember when video tape recorders were launched in 1977ish. The VHS versions cost anywhere from $1,000 to $1,400 and BetaMAX was around $2k. $1,000 is about $5k today.

So saying you won't be an early adopter because of the price (I certainly won't be) and saying that the product will be a flop are clearly two different things. I think I bought my first video tape recorder in 1982. when the price was still an uncomfortable $400 or so.

Will Vision Pro be successful? I don't know. But history shows that price is not the main driver of successful tech introductions.

Also please remember, these are the "desktop" version of AR/VR tech, we have not yet seen the "laptop" version much less the "phone" version.

It’s as close to being able to record a dream and share that dream as we will have for a very long time…and this is v1. Imagine where it’ll be by v10.
Have you had the chance to read the book 'Ready Player Two'? The concept of a Spacial Video and the underlying storyline highlight the dark and unsettling aspects, making it evident that chaos will ensue if it becomes mainstream. To truly understand my point, I encourage you to delve into the book. However, it must be noted that the book itself is not exceptional.

I seriously can not wait until the 3rd Gen Apple Vision Pro (or whatever other model they may offer) so I can finally afford a 1st Gen model.

Which app?

Spatialify… I saw others talking about a TestFlight app with the same name on Twitter. The beta was full, but I found this on the App Store. I am not certain if it is the same developer, or if this is a copy.

It’s as many virtual displays as you like without taking up any space whatsoever, and you can bet that the internals and app availability are going to take off fast. I’m seriously considering it for work from home instead of a studio display(s).
More like, “as many floating iOS apps that the RAM will allow for”.

Also, AVP only allows you to mirror one Mac display, and not extend it.

I just tried a couple of iPhone Spatial videos on my Quest 3. Honestly pretty surreal in a cool way. You’ve probably seen 3D images and movies before, but it’s wild seeing your own pets in 3D in front of you.

And I’m sure it’ll look much better on AVP.

For 4000 you can watch one minute max videos all day long on your headset.

But it’s a headset that you can’t wear for more than 30 mins. And will be uncomfortable the whole time. Can’t run macOS.

My dishwasher can't run macOS. Worthless!

Shame. Especially if it had a chip that could. Considering there are no producticiy apps made for Vision Pro that you’d need.

You still need a kb. A mouse. And breaks every 30 mins. Seems great. Oh and Apple still isn’t confident enough to let anyone use a Bluetooth device with it.

Admittedly the videos will look great. All do on vr. And this promises to take that quality to the next level. But the bottleneck is poor recording via iPhone 15. 1080p at 30 frames one min max. And have to be careful how close you get. Many will record these having no idea if they’ll look any good.

Maybe it improves over time. But that time isn’t now.

This is going to be so cool for rich people!
And for people who are really into porn. Just like the early versions of video recorders. Those two classes of individuals will drive demand that increases economies of scale, spawns competition from other products and eventually decreases price and increases quality. VTR's are your case study here.

^^ this guy has done his research.

Where do you see 1 min max? I saw your comment before and recorded a video longer than a minute.

Thought I saw that or heard it but must have saw all the stuff about what one min equals in storage. My bad.

I know how you feel about it is most likely the norm amongst most people, but not for me.

My son passed 6 years ago. He was a stand-up comic, and I have videos up on YouTube, as well as family vids and photos on all my Apple gear. To this day, I’ve only been able to watch one of his stand-ups. It’s just way too hard to see and hear. I can’t even imagine seeing him in something like what they’re describing here. I’d be a wreck. But, again, I know I’m an outlier in this, and understand how wonderful this would be for others.
