Why all the Samsung hate? Wasn't Macintosh built by Jobs that took the UI design at Xerox? Didn't iOS copy notifications? I thought there was a lot that Apple copied. I am probably wrong.

Hopefully they straighten everything out. I like both companies, and I will continue to purchase from both (as long as the products are to my liking). It seems a lot of people are for one company, or the other.

Problem is Samsung doesn't think they've done anything wrong so ... Apple is left with the options of either doing nothing or taking them to court.

Apple takes everyone to court yet they steal/copy whatever you want to call it just as much as Samsung and others do

Oh look how quickly people turn on Koh. You can almost hear the sound of spittle smacking the monitor as they cry out for her head.

The sheer amount of frothing over Samsung and not so witty parodies of the name Samsung are so entertaining. It's just a gadget folks...

Finally... Apple didn't deserve nearly $1 Billion. That's 9 zeros! 1,000,000,000!!!!

You're wrong in that your trollery implies that Xerox didn't get compensation for the use of their invention. They did. Apple hooked Xerox up with pre-IPO stock in return for being able to scope out their R&D at the Palo Alto center and use whatever they found that looked promising. So "took" or as others have put it "stole" is not an accurate way to characterize what happened between Apple and Xerox. The More You Know (Tm)

Meanwhile Samsung grossly copied the iPhone and iPad and didn't pay Apple a damned thing for it. A very different scenario.

what's the point of having a jury if in the end the judge is just gonna say they made a mistake...?

Hmm. So was Judge Koh corrupt during the original trial - or is that just the tin foil hat response now because she's voiding nearly half of the judgement and asking for a new trial?

So if you aren't for Apple - you're being paid off?

Yeah. Ok

It's ok if Apple does it.

Yeah. Ok

Apple patented declaration of mistrials. That is why Judge went this route...

Don't act like Apple is a saint! They've stolen ideas from companies before and will continue to do it.

That quote is always taken so far out of context and grossly misinterpreted. Read this.

Listen to what he says immediately before and immediately after that famous "Good artists copy, great artists steal" line. What the man was referring to was the notion of 'stealing' ideas from different areas of life. He's talking about the idea of exposing yourself to all walks of life - history, zoology, poetry, art, music and so on, so that you can incorporate ideas from all those fields into the computer work that you do. He's not talking about looking to a competitor's product and blatantly copying it. His statement had nothing to do with that.

When you pull that one phrase out of of its context and remove its intended meaning, yeah, it sounds like he was being hypocritical. But if you listen to what he was actually saying with that quote, it makes perfect sense and isn't the least bit hypocritical.

So is about 80 percent of factual information on this forum it often seems. People fail to read articles. And other posters posts. But yet that doesn't stop them from making ignorant comments.

Lucy awarded nothing. The jury awarded Apple.

I'm wondering if she is going to be the next expert witness on samsungs payroll.

I doubt she will end up on Samsungs payroll. This ruling was just a warning, Tim will make sure her payment isn't late again.

You do realise the lawyers are not the product designers right? The product designers do their job, the lawyers do their job. Having court cases does not affect productivity.

Yes I understand that but at the same time, future design and development has to look at this court case and how it ends so that they (both companies) do not get into a similar situation.
So yes this case does effect the designers.
