Just great... now Apple can go after other big companies since there patents are deemed valid. I do not care who copied who. They have both copied from each other. Apple has copied many people in the past. This is going to cause more trouble in the long term for other smartphones. Competition is good. If the jury cared an ounce about the consumer they would have dropped this case.

Monopolies are not good even if the company itself is good or bad or wether it is fair or not. This is terrible news no matter how you slice it.

I would love to see Apple wipe that ever present smile off Eric Schmidt's face. Hopefully one day Apple nails Google as well.

Apple employed people educated in public universities to come up with this phone, no? Apple used innovations of others, from even centuries ago, to allow for their profit, correct?

I think we just found the guy who wrote Obama's "You Didn't Build That" speech.

This verdict is why I held off on buying a Samsung Galaxy SIII cellphone. Who knows what kind of punishment Apple wants--and that punishment could include a ban on the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy SIII models.

The biggest winner in all this: Microsoft. Why? Because the user interface of Windows Phone 7.x and 8.0 owe just about nothing to Apple's patents and copyrights on iOS, and cellphone manufacturers may have no choice but to turn to Microsoft if they want to be viable again. And Windows Phone 8.0--which will roll out this fall--supports all the latest hardware.

So what are you saying by holding off purchasing the S3 ? Do you think Apple or the Apple Police will come and remove the phone from you if it is banned.

Judges are reluctant to overturn a jury verdict. An appeal is not a new trial. An appeal goes in front of a judge who decides whether the appeal is valid and whether to overturn the previous verdict. When a jury has reached a verdict, the burden is higher to get the verdict overturned. I'm not saying it's not possible, but in this case highly unlikely unless there was some obvious violation of process.

True. Judges decide the law. Juries decide the facts. The Appellate Court isn't going to rule whether or not the jury decided the facts incorrectly. They are going to review whether the judge made an error that potentially caused the jury to make an incorrect decision, and whether a new trial would be warranted.

Ironically, Koh granted an injunction against the Galaxy Tab, but that device was found not to infringe. Lots of devices she didn't grant an injunction against did.

Please enlighten us on what, exactly, Apple has a "monopoly" on in this case?

Well after this ruling, i wonder what apple is planing to do about its upcoming Motorola case (lol we will see how long that takes to happen)....its the flip flop for apple as Motoroal accuses apple of infringing on 4 different patents ....

thoughts on this?

Now that Apple has set a precedent with this win, if the violated software patents are also present in the core Android system and not just Samsung's skin, Apple can now go after Google with an almost guaranteed win. That's IF these patents are more than skin deep.

Is it true that companies run the country in Korea behind the scene? And one of them is Samsung?

You know what's funny. Apple most likely isn't the happiest people today. If they get the ban on products, the happiest people have to be the windows 8 mobile team.

Now for ALL crapdroid users in this forum: feel free to step forward and buy your new iPhones in September.

No more copycat supporters here, please. ;)

Doesn't Apple need to shut down Android first? What gets to me is that isn't it Google which copied the whole "pinch to zoom" patent and all? Hardware wise I can see why Apple is suing Samsung, but shouldn't this be a "hardware only" patent dispute?
What's the point of bringing up software patents when Samsung didn't make the software?

Just to clarify.. does this mean all of Samsung's Phones and Tablets are banned in the US only?

Um..but they can't take away the fact that Samsung is the #1 Android maker. I think Samsung got what they want out of this infringing.

My only question now, is why Apple didn't do this in 2010?

Funny stuff hehe

The court is back in recess until we hear from the jurors. Apple attorney Michael Jacobs said he was going to stay in the courtroom. "I wouldn't go far," Koh says.
