Four questions:

1) Can it be hooked up to a Blu-Ray player?

2) Can it be hooked up to a PS3?

3) How is the quality when playing DVDs through the macbook drive?

4) Could this be a true TV substitute for great movie quality?

Probably in the future when there are bluray players built in with a display port or new adapters. Apple just announced free licensing for their mini display ports.
2) Can it be hooked up to a PS3?
Probably not, unless apple or 3rd party comes out with some sort of mini display port to hdmi.

3) How is the quality when playing DVDs through the macbook drive?
Havnt seen it myself either...
4) Could this be a true TV substitute for great movie quality?
I doubt any computer monitor could truly substitute a real 1080p hdtv. Also, I would think the 24" is too small to replace an hdtv.

Why not? There's really no difference between a monitor and an HDTV, except for the ports.

Well for one thing the size, a 24" computer monitor cant replace a 46" or a 52" hdtv. Also have you ever seen a 1080p bluray movie playing from a true 1080p hdtv? Its just breath taking.

And it's just as breathtaking on a 1920x1200 monitor, which displays exactly the same pixels as a 1920x1080 (1080p) HDTV. An LCD HDTV is exactly the same thing as an LCD monitor.

The size is not an issue if the monitor is two feet in front of you on your desk, rather than ten feet across the room like a 46" HDTV would be.

I had the 23" ACD and comparing 1080p movies off it to my 52" sony bravia xbr4, it just looks plain and sometimes compared to the bravia looks like higher end dvd quality.

As a movie enthusiast, I love watching movies on a big screen sitting on a couch or a comfy reclinable chair with a set of real theatre speakers for the experience.

I guess its ok to watch movies or tv shows on an acd while i'm working or something in dual monitor mode with a mbp.

On the other hand, hdtv's have come down in price alot this holiday season and for a few hundred more dollars you can buy a sharp 52" 1080p hdtv around $1199-$1299 that I've seen at best buy/circuitcity.

Anyone order from Expercom.com? I ordered sort of late but havent gotten any word when it might ship.

Aghh the wait is killing me. I bought a bunch of new accessories to use with it.

if you really want photobooth, you'll have to clamshell it and attach a keyboard & mouse, i think...

I'm having the same problem. I find it really weird that it will work in iChat but not Photo Booth. It kind of defeats the purpose of having it if it's not fully functional.

Apple will probably just change it around in an upcoming software update so for people worried about this I doubt it will be an issue for very long given that people are complaining.

Has anyone tried this display in Bootcamp with either XP/Vista and tried to play a Blu-Ray from a USB BD drive?

First thing would be does it work with Windows at all then the BD playback.

Thanks

Just got mine. Hooked it up. I also got it on the same receipt of my MBP, so 3 years of AppleCare. If you didn't know it before, they also gave me a $100 education discount on it, so it's cool.

I tried disassembling it, but it looks like there aren't any screws to removing the glass. :(

I'm not too happy that I can't adjust the height, but I'll get used to it.

I think mine has a bit uneven backlight with the bottom corners brighter than the rest of the monitor, but I probably won't return it. I do have until January 9th anyways if I decide I will.

And I love the simplicity and elegance. I tried testing the display for the panel, but the gloss is hard to test the purple for IPS; looks slightly purple, but I can't be sure.

Speakers are abysmal, but I use headphones anyways. First time I plugged it into my computer my video froze and then I got a KP; wasn't too happy with that. Now it's error free. It's a big laggy on the 9400M, so I'm sticking to the 9600M.

Display is bright, so I'm not affected by the glossy. It's unusually heavy, so I hope it's got quality components.

Overall an excellent display with some small drawbacks I'll get used or overlook later.

Now I have to sell my old display.

Oh I almost forgot: The MacBook Air SuperDrive does not work. It may if you have a MBA connected, but not with my MBP.

Congrats! I got corporate discount on mine: 8% on both:D $231.84 off:D
I heard the panel was magnetically attached to the frames. You many need some strong magnets to detach the panel from the frame. Personally I would never try to take it apart:eek: Apple doesn't seem to like Height adjustments on their recent imacs and displays:(...

One thing I'm dying to know - maybe you can answer this - is whether the glass on front is held on by magnets and removable like the glass over the iMac screen. So uh, is it? :D

An Apple Store employee went and asked their repair technicians for me, and reported that it's just like the iMac, and that removing the glass yourself will void the warranty.

Not like they would be able to tell, I imagine.

Must. Refrain. From. Disassembly.
