While I disagree with the abuse of the return policy.

I do agree with the color choice. Space grey is better. Far better.
Apple is charging a premium price. So I'm getting what I paid for. Plus I bought a higher spec'd model. Apple is refurbish it or use it for someone else who needs a MBP replacement down the line so its a win win for them.

I just called one of my stores, and they said they do have some of the 2.9/460/1TB models for the holidays, but are not carrying the 2TB models.

It showed out of stock for me, but the person I spoke to also said they had just sold the last of that model. So I'm not sure whether it would have shown up if it were in stock.
The employees have knowledge of what's in the store but you have to go into the store to find out.

You can call the store, and if you're lucky, you'll be picked up by the store and they'll know. If you aren't lucky, the store won't pick up in time and you'll go to global call center, and they won't know the inventory of the store.

The person I spoke with said they werent revealing stock over the phone... but maybe its that one store or I misunderstood.

Agree, found stock on a 13" 3.3/16gb/512 at Manhattan Beach but it does not show up available online.

Rhode Island here. Unfortunately the Providence store doesn't even have a 15" on display. If Boston had a Space Gray 15" 2.9 1TB 460 in stock and I could reserve it until I got there, I would brave Boston traffic to make it happen!

The crazy thing is I had one on pre-order less than 3 mins after pre orders started, but I cancelled it on Nov 4 after making the decision that I would wait until 32 GB of RAM is available. But after days of research, I'm of the opinion that while it's possible it could happen in 12 months, 18-24 months is far more likely. And then I read some of the exciting reviews here...and then I also heard from a professional colleague that does similiar work to me (I'm an assignment-based photographer and videographer) and he said that his new MBP was running very smooth while editing full-frame 4K video at 60 fps.

So here I am, pulling the trigger, again! If I stayed on course, I would be using it right now. Instead, my new delivery date is Dec 22-28. I think I'll drink some beeer tonight!
I just called providence place, they have the 15in 2.9 512 460 in space grey in the store. dont know how long it will be there

2/2 for me. One even held stock for me (very nice), The others said they couldn't do it .

Called my local Apple store this morning and asked about a 15 MBP in space gray. Guy confirmed they had a few and only one that was maxed (with 1TB). So, I went over and grabbed it. After that, I cancelled my order that I had placed a few days ago.

Thanks Clint! I've actually been on hold with the direct line to the store for 15 mins now and no one has picked up the phone. They closed 6 mins ago and it looks like I won't get any confirmation that they still have...

...break....they picked up the phone and unfortunately the guy was not helpful at all, despite my best efforts to talk to him. He said he couldn't tell me if any were in stock and that I had to go through the website to try and order one. I politely explained my situation and said that I wasn't looking for him to hold it for me, but I just needed to know if he had it in stock right now and then I would take my own chances with the drive and he flat out refused to tell me. My plan was be waiting when they opened their doors in the morning. He then said that they havent gotten any new MBPs in stock yet and I could tell that he was lying to me and was not going to help me no matter what I said.

I don't understand why Apple makes it this difficult.

Earlier this afternoon, the person at the store told me it was a 15" Space Grey, 2.9, 1 TB, 460 that they had in stock. Are you sure that when you called it was a 512 GB? Just checking as I try to weigh my options. 3 hrs is a lot of time to waste tomorrow if things don't work out.

Thanks!

Just cancelled my December delivery and picked mine up too. My local store didn't have what I wanted so I called another and they said they didn't have any.

So I had my store call that same store after they checked and saw inventory in the system and was told they did have them but in limited supply. I drove over and they had exactly what I wanted, the the high end base 15" in Space Grey.

Its like its a secret or something. lol

Rhode Islander here as well. I hate the Providence Place store. It's so claustrophobic and usually a pain in the ass to pick anything up from.

If you need to contact the store simply say "manager" at the prompt and you'll be routed locally.

As Clint said, always cool to see a fellow Rhode Islander on here! I'm with you, it's a pain to go to that store. You have to fight for parking, then you have to pay for parking, and then go in their tight store with no elbow room. Plus, after the unwillingness to give me any information over the phone, it makes me want to stay away even more.

As I said before, if I was a business owner and someone wanted to give me $3,700 for a product, I'd be welcoming them with open arms and not trying to hide things from them or keep secrets that would not facilitate a sale.

Same ish they pulled when the new iPhones became available. You needed to reserve from a "super secret" site and even then it wasn't even guaranteed you'd get one if you wanted to just buy outright. Either way, good luck on getting your new machine! I wish I was in a place financially to pick up a souped up 15", but I'm definitely very pleased with my base model 13".

Called and reserved 15in 2.9/512/460 space Grey. Picked it up today. Cancelled order with delivery date after Christmas.

According to my research, most stores will have a 15in 2.9/1tb/460 in stores, even if it does not show on the site. That is like a third "secret" config that stores will carry

Apple Store in memphis has all models and sizes (13 and 15 inch ). 256 and 512 in stock

So... I just went to the store yesterday and they had the Space Gray in the model I wanted. Setup the computer late last night in the dark and came home today to notice... it's the Silver model. Sounds ridiculous but given the low light I didn't even notice it.

Do you think I should just keep it or take it back and request the SG?
