So... I just went to the store yesterday and they had the Space Gray in the model I wanted. Setup the computer late last night in the dark and came home today to notice... it's the Silver model. Sounds ridiculous but given the low light I didn't even notice it.

Do you think I should just keep it or take it back and request the SG?
Only you can answer that. But presumably since you'll have the machine a while, no reason not to get the color you want.

I would just keep it. I won't call you vain if you trade it out, it's not cheap and SG is pretty nice. But don't let the SG army here convince you that silver is trash; if it sucked that much Apple wouldn't have used it for the past 10+ years.

So, I just went to my local Apple Store to just check on inventory, not expecting anything since I want a 15" with 2.9 GHz, 1 TB, and 460 video card. Unfortunately they didn't have one in space gray that I wanted, but they did have a silver one. So, I bought that bad boy and just got home to set it up! Got to use my education discount and saved $270 as well!

What model number was on your box for your new MBP? For example, the 15 TB w/ 512GB is MLH42LL.

I ended up getting the Silver MBP from a local Apple store.. LOVE it. Honestly, I thought it looked way nicer than the space gray version... But, of course, your mileage may vary.

Walked into Mall of Millenia, Orlando, FL this morning at 10. Walked out 10 minutes late with 13" Touch Bar 3.3,16GB,512SSD in Gray (they had both colors). They had lots of stock (lots of options) but you would not know it by the website. Yesterday I was in the Florida Mall store in the afternoon and they had lots of stock. The one I wanted was only in Silver. I was told a couple of interesting things. One if a store has less than 5 or any configuration it will not show on the website. Two when you call a store you are not necessarily talking to the store as many calls get sent through a call center. My experience in talking to both was not great. My experience in store was excellent.

RDU, NC area - Southpoint had Silver 2.9/460/1TB and Crabtree had Silver & SG 2.9/460/1TB. Supplies are tight, so call in to double check.

Probably already been said, but when calling to check stock say "manger" - they'll connect you with the store (the only people who can check 2.9/460/1TB stock). The people you normally at the call center don't even know you can get them in store and their tool can't check.

I originally made a walk-in purchase of a 15" 2.9/1TB/460 but exchanged it for a 13" 3.3/16GB/512GB.

I am torn between the two. Care for any input on why the switch?

It mainly came down to potential issues with the dGPU, and price. The fully-loaded 13" is $1500 CAD cheaper than the fully-loaded 15", granted I lose 512 GB of SSD. As much as I liked the screen real-estate and quad-core on the 15", I just couldn't justify keeping a potential time-bomb dGPU.
