What's everyone's update on battery life? So far, I've watched mine dwindle considerably fast. I've shut down location services but I'm not sure that'll really solve much of a problem since it's probably other things running that I can't help.

I know it's a beta, blah blah blah. Was just curious as to what others were seeing and if there was a solution that I can apply to at least save a little battery here and there throughout a given day.

Outside of that, I'm liking what I see so far, particularly with these new notifications! A welcome change to say the least.

Best way to save life is to just use the phone/device less. That's why you're seeing the drop because it's a shiny new beta and we keep poking the device combing through the new features. It's basically the same battery life, no improvements with a slight decrease due to less optimization because it's a beta.

Hi,

If your interested in activating your device so you can install the new iOS5 then please email me at simonbraders2k "at" gmail.com...

I have 6 accounts left, so hurry if your interested.

Braders

That's pretty much against the agreement you signed, as well as the fact your email contains your first and last name. Which means if Apple did catch you, they'd ban your Dev Account and all your reg'd UDID's would become ineligible, bricking people's devices and costing you more money then you made.

I appreciate it Jare. I did use it a bit more this morning with some SiriusXM streaming and whatnot. Solid explanation.

I did notice it having some trouble picking up an AT&T signal when I got off of the subway at Grand Central, but that could just be the fact that I always have some minor issues w/ that since AT&T doesn't see a need to fire a signal into my office building.

Stupid question but any beta issues that can be reported to Apple is located via a link in our developer accounts? Just curious b/c I'd like to at least report bugs when I see them to help the process.

Sorry, sorta a rookie w/ the beta stuff.

im getting this error in itunes when restoring to ios 5 file "iphone not eligible for requested build" could this be because my UDID may have not been activated yet?

It's cool. http://bugreporter.apple.com Is the link I think. Not 100% sure if that's the correct wording for the link though. And yes, Apple does read that section quite often.

I've noticed some signal trouble too. It'll fix itself eventually.

Duh.. you need to be a developer to use the Beta. (IE have your UDID registered..)

correct. i have a dev account and dspalton was nice enough at register my UDID under his dev account a few hours ago. im using itune 10.5 beta and have all the skd's (which arent needed for this process)

That error means your UDID registration is not active, meaning the "person" who did it didn't actually do it. The process is instant and full proof.

I'd double check the UDID you sent the dev is 100% correct and that you didnt transpose any of the alphanumeric characters. I've seen that happen before.

does not save progress.

NOOOOO!!!
Sad news...I was really looking forward to delete many games and apps without loosing progress in the case I'll eventually re-install those (maybe after an update).
I was confident about it because I saw an iOS5 screenshot with App and DATA byte occupation...so I took for certain that they sync data in iCloud.

BTW...has anyone installed OS5 on more than 1 device with the same Apple id?

Does app data SYNC between devices?
I mean...I add an AirVideo server on my iPhone...will I see it on my iPad?
(Same with games).
Jobs vaguely mentioned it during the keynote, if I'm not wrong.

I'll get right on that. I'll let you know how it goes. Someone may beat me to the punch though.

So I've got everything set up on my iPad 2 and iPhone 4. So far so good. Notifications are a dream come true and work very well so far. There are a few glitches here and there but nothing deal-breaking – at least for me. The split keyboard on iPad is genius. Way better to write with when you're holding the device with both hands.

The only apps not working for me right now are Air Video live conversion (I use StreamToMe instead) and unfortunately EyeTV/EyeConnect. Glad it's offseason and I don't watch TV at all ;)

With this and the completely implemented I loud (read: iCloud *lol*) plus iTunes Match, this is a godsend come autumn for the iOS platform and its users.

Do app data SYNC between the 2 devices (bot with iOS5 and the same Apple id I assume)?

On battery life, it's def draining faster. Did a few tests on 4.3 before I updated and unscientifically it's dropping about 7-9% faster. Again it's beta so who cares but in the fwiw department. May be related to things like notif tracking and the two "widgets"

One nice thing not sure if someone mentioned is that with mms messages th images show up on the lock screen and in the notif drop down.

Incorrect.

Do this in the terminal:
sudo nano -w /etc/hosts
In nano, find the line:
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Put a # in front of this line, commenting it out.
Press Control + X to save (and Y to confirm then hit enter).

Try again.

what happens if your on the BETA and your iphone breaks and apple replace it?

assume you lose it?

my iphone isnt broken just curious in case

Any word if iMessage is gonna have a Pin...

Any word if iMessage is gonna have a Pin Like the BBM? that way u dont need to know the persons phone number? and is group messaging gonna be like BBM's group messaging and say the same of who wrote what line of text?

so if you are sending messages to ios friends it does not incur text charges? I currently use Whatsapp and google voice for my texts and would love to get rid of my texting option all together

thanks

No text charges when it routes over iMessage. Just a few kb of data.

Has one of my biggest iOS gripes ever been resolved? Can we finally delete apps while keeping the app-specific files (either on the device, or in the iCloud), so that when we reinstall the app, the files are still there/downloaded from iCloud?

Not being able to delete a large game without losing all your game progress when you're out and about and need another gig for HD video is one of the most peculiar aspects of software design I've ever come across.

There are more granular controls in iOS5 - you can delete data from an app without deleting the app itself. But you can't do it the other way round. That may change though with the iCloud API. Technically, your game saves will be separate from the app. We will have to see.

you message there phone number or itunes email address .. not a specific code

yes you can, no, you cant control the pull down, if you begin pulling it down, after a certain point it will go all the way to the bottom.

Thanks!

Are you sure about iMessages being able to send Map location though? I thought it could only send pictures, videos and texts obviously.
