the thing is, lots of people think of cutting down the amount of devices to carry with them.. if you are a music lover.. the iphone CAN NOT do this.

Nope, no phone can to my knowledge. Because, well, it's a phone.

Not everyone has time each day or week to sync and plan their music for later.

I do have the time, but I guess it's just not that important to me. I have the same 4 gigs or so of music that was on there 3 months ago. I like what is on there, and don't need to "plan" what I'm going to listen to every day. I guess also, I don't use the phone as my primary source, so that helps.

I understand the OP's concern completely. However, I don't understand why this forum is littered with posts saying "I have an 8GB iPhone and it's NOT ENOUGH to carry my 30GB of music!" Well, my god, call CNN...when did this epiphany strike you? Sometimes, it's just kind of fun to get into these people's heads.

well.. i take it ALL BACK.. i can erase ALL the music off my iphone now because i just downloaded SIMPLIFY MEDIA and IT ROCKS. i got my entire library on my iphone through this little app.. i'm happy. i just have to remember to leave it running on my laptop

Agreed.

Check out the app that came out today.

Simplify Media.

I have a 55 gig music library. I can now access it from my phone anywhere I want and it doesn't take up any space. On top of that you can access libraries of your friends as well. Very cool.

Haha.. oops missed this. Yeah this is a godesend. I wanted to put all my music on my phone so I really wanted 32 gigs, now I don't need to do it.

I predict that simplify media is going to be a monster app for the iPhone. They seem to think so too making it free for the first 100k people.

Lol

This convinces me that people whining about space really don't care about music so much as thinking they are cool for having so much and thinking they are so elite for knowing about every obscure, underground, and local band. Get a grip.

Real audiophiles are concerned about the quality of their music and streaming music is going to be probably 128 Kb/sec at most. Music on your device can support much higher quality music.

Your iPhone can hold 72 hours (3 days) of music. That is straight playback w/o repeats. How many hours per day are you going to be listening on a mobile? You are telling me that once every five days or so you can't spare 10 minutes to swap out music? After all you have to plug in and sync your phone several times by then anyways. And that is without even hearing the same song twice out of 1200 - heaven forbid you hear one of your so-favorite-I-can't-live-without songs repeat *gasp*. These people need to invest just a pinch of their elitist music obsessing time learning some organizational skills.

Anyways, Simplify Media would be useful to hear that song you crave at the moment but doesn't happen to be synced - just don't forget to turn off your computer, itunes+simplifiy media, and the stream.

...even a 16GB would not have replaced my ipod. "

I find it AMUSING that this thread got as LONG as it is, seeing as how the above quote COMPLETELY NULLIFIES the THREAD TITLE. I also find it AMUSING to type in ALL CAPS every THREE WORDS. Can you say borderline?

"Sir, I recently purchased this small handbag and have now realised that my entire wardrobe does not fit into it. What are you going to do about it?"

AT&T's terms and agreements say you can't use the cell-phone network (3G or EDGE) to stream MUSIC or VIDEO. Go ahead and read it sometime.

Then why do we have these Apps in the store?
All radio apps done by streaming. Say , you use seeqpod for a particular song you like. How is it any different than streaming from your home computer? Seeqpod streams from someone else's computer. Orb streams from your computer, again what's the difference?

Don't complain to me just because I read the AT&T Terms and Conditions for the iPhone.

Click this: http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/articles-resources/iphone-terms.jsp

The following is directly from the iPhone terms and conditions for AT&T:

"UNLIMITED PLANS CANNOT BE USED FOR UPLOADING, DOWNLOADING OR STREAMING OF VIDEO CONTENT (E.G. MOVIES, TV), MUSIC OR GAMES. FURTHERMORE, UNLIMITED PLANS (EXCEPT FOR DATACONNECT AND BLACKBERRY TETHERED) CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY APPLICATIONS THAT TETHER THE DEVICE (THROUGH USE OF, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, CONNECTION KITS, OTHER PHONE/PDA-TO-COMPUTER ACCESSORIES, BLUETOOTH® OR ANY OTHER WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY) TO LAPTOPS, PCS, OR OTHER EQUIPMENT FOR ANY PURPOSE."

Ehh that much music is worthless on a ipod.

I manage my music through play lists ... I have a complex smart playlist with the following options:

Only chooses songs > 3 stars (I tag all my music as I find songs I like)
Don't pick songs I've skipped over in the past 4 days
Don't pick songs that have been played in the past 36 hours
Limit to 5GB
Only sync checked songs

This constantly rotates my music with stuff I know I'll like. I then add a play list with the most recent additions in the past month and a play list of the top 30 played songs ....

No need for 20+ gb on the go ... you'll never listen to it all. Even my 5GB is overkill ....

Well , there is nothing to complain. Millions of people streaming radio stations everyday (meaning; They're streaming MUSIC). So far no problems. Apple is selling these APPs in their store.
I am happy, they're happy. Obviously, they're not enforcing it.
Also, what about "Youtube"? Isn't it Streaming VIDEO? If you couldn't stream video on their network, then how does it work then?

Let me tell you this, everybody I know upgraded to 3G just because of this. To use internet radio stations without excessive buffering.
You take that away, you'll see how many people are canceling their accounts. I don't need to surf web on 3G on a tiny screen, EDGE was perfectly enough for that purpose.
I know it, you know it, they know it.....

You can stream, and it's perfectly FINE. However you should know that we have a soft limit on our accounts, so far nobody know what that limit is.
So, as long as you keep it under 'that' limit, you can stream anything you want.

They have that in their Terms & Conditions because it makes sense to have it there, from a legal stand point. Say Johnny streams 100gigs of video content that month, and they cancel his account, Johnny sues At&T. See my point?

i just dont understand why you would need so much music at one time. you arent going to listen to every song in a day or even in a couple days. movies too, how many movies can you watch in a day while doing your daily routines? its pointless. unless you are going on vacation or taking a long road trip. but even then, most people still bring their laptops. unless your computer is crap slow, it doesnt take long to sync up and switch things out. it just shows how lazy people are these days if you ask me. or how important it is to brag about how many songs you have collected on your ipod/iphone.

i get tired of the same songs easily. so i am perfectly fine with an 8gb, cause im going to be rotating music in and out anyways.

Hi
I liked the logic in your smart playlist, however I am unable to recreate it. When I do (what I think should work) I get an extremely short playlist. Could you fill me in on what the rules to your smart list is?
Perhaps post a screen shot?

I don't even know why you would want your iPhone as your primary media device. Besides the fact that it doesn't have enough space, the battery life is abysmal for listening to music or watching videos. You're far better to just buy an 80 or 160 (what I have) iPod Classic, and use that as your media pod. The battery life is exceptional, and you also won't clog up your iPhone. 8GB is more than enough if you use your phone primarily as an email, internet, and phone client, and not a music/video player.

I'll do so when I get home later tonight. It works really well once you get it tweaked right.

Exactly, you don't need to sync one single mp3, podcast as long as you have 3G connection, you're good to go....
:D:D:D

Nice but I'm on a subway w/o a connection for most of my daily commute.

Ok, then how long is your daily commute? 1hr? 2hrs? 3hrs?
As others suggested, learn to use "smart playlist" function. It's there for a reason. You still don't have to carry all your library with you.
How many gigs of music do you need for 3hrs commute? obviously not more than couple gigs...

i'd probably say that if you have more than about a thousand songs that you love, your music taste sucks. why? because there aren't that many great songs

Yeah. There's like NO good music out there. I wish these artists would get off their aces and do something!!

Seriously though, I really hope you were kidding. That's gotta be one of the most juvenile, close minded comments I've ever seen. And this site surely has no shortage of those.
