maybe you should start taking some of the smart playlist advice people are giving you. You seem like you just gave a rant for no reason and are ignoring all advice (good advice) and the fact is, you will never, between syncs listen to more than 8GB of music.
maybe you should read the entire thread as well. i wasnt complaining.. i was just making apost that even though i THOUGH 8GB would be enough, i was warning people that want to replace their ipod with their iphone might not get along ok with an 8GB.. again, if you read the REST of the thread, you MIGHT have picked that up.

I have read the whole thread. And all of your posts seem a little pointless. D'uh 8GB might not be enough for some people.
D'uh it's not possible to fit a 30GB library on an 8GB iPhone.

I thought I WAS the ONLY one that noticed THAT. The OP probably TALKS like THAT too. That would be ANNOYING. Keep in mind that the OP is the same KID HATER (see her other threads) poster. It must BE her "SCREW THEM ALL" attitude that MAKES her TYPE like THAT.
Gee, you have 100 terabytes of music/video and just realized it won't all fit on an 8gb iPhone?
it was just a stupid post.. i had no idea it would get as long as it did.. it got this long because people couldnt understand why someone would want their entire music library with them, and it had to be explained a thousand times because people would not read the thread.

Everyone does understand that some people want their entire music library with them. But what people are trying to explain, just like the maximize button in OS X, it isn't necessary. You just need to prioritize your library. The only people who need large capacity iPods are those with Libraries (IMO) greater than 80GB. That's why I have more than one iPod. One large capacity iPod classic and an iPhone. Do I take my classic with me everywhere? No, I hardly ever need all that music, unless I'm plugging it into my stereo or car stereo. Do I take my iPhone everywhere? Yeah, because I need a phone and it holds all the Music I want. How often do I use the classic? Maybe once a month at a party, or something.
BTW: my Music Library is approaching 100GB.

PS: caps are annoying, you don't need to use bold, italic, or underlined words to get your point across. Maybe a little italicizing here and there isn't bad, but if you can't make a point without having your post look LiKE tHIs then you shouldn't be posting here at all.
You actually don't want any solutions. People here all recommend things and you say no no no. Was your original intent to tell people how tough it is to migrate from the iPod to the iPhone? Personally I've known peope that come off like you are - they COMPLAIN how hard it is to do this or that but never take advice because they really just want people to react in an admiring way. "oh wow, you have THAT MUCH MUSIC?"
When people give actual advice the answer is alwYs "yeah but" and a reason why there will forever be a problem.
Sounds to me like you wanted a reaction. Congrats you got one.
Maybe just forget an iPod entirely and get a MacBook so you can have 250 gigs to store your music.
Then again, why not go thru your iTunes track list and see when was the LONGEST ammount oftime since a track was played. Bet you there are tracks you haven't heard for weeks if not MONTHS.
Go ahead and test it. See if it proves a point everyone here is trying to make.

i totally relate to you, lindsay. my itunes library has about 50GB of music and when presented with the task of narrowing it down it seemed quite daunting. oh, before i begin, everyone thats screaming and yelling at the OP for her post, really ought to ****. this is a FORUM. that is what forums are for. what the hell is wrong with you? if you don't agree or empathize, why talk ****?
but anyway, i had a 16GB Touch for 6 months or so and sold it for an 8GB iPhone. With my available room for tunes cut in half, i was really struggling with what to load up. So, like others have suggested, i discovered the joy of smart playlists. they really are the answer. i never really "got it" when people would tell me to make them, but when i finally did, it was like rays of sunlight cutting through the clouds.
so then, and even now with my 16GB 3G, i started creating tons of smart playlists. but, i discovered that all i needed was a quick & dirty way to swap out tunes. so i set up one smart playlist that i called iPhone, set up the crtieria, and set it to be at a maximum size. now i use 7GB. and every couple of days or so, i select all the songs in the playlist, hit delete, and bang, it populates it with 7GB of more music. sure, there's some repeats. but i never get through the whole 7GB before i swap them out any way. i just want choices, and that size works for me. i also have lots of vids and podcasts.
so, anyway, try effing around with smart playlists and see if you can't soothe the music monkey.

i don't really have that much music so 8GB is enough for me but yeah. 32GB should come out early next year..just keep this one in good shape, then sell it when the 32GB comes, and then get the 32?
I wasnt complaining.. just making a point - i wasnt really asking for a solution.. did i EVER ask for a solution. i was just telling people what my experience is because i THOUGHT i could get away with an iphone.. i HAVE a solution, i carry my 80GB ipod. Theres nothing WRONG with that.. i just was sad with picking and choosing.. and i dont want to.. my solution is to carry an ipod. I was just telling peopel that narrowing down my device carrying.

You pay for convenience with the iPhone. As in isn't it convenient to have an all in one device?
iPod is straight upmedia. Why not complain the other way - that the iPod holds all your media but does not make phone calls?
Well you don't complain because that is not what the iPod is engineered to do. It is a media player and solution for all your content.

If you don't like the iPhone and think it isn't the solution you must have thought it was than pay AT&T the Etf and sell it n eBay because there are plenty of people who will gladly buy it.

this thread is SUCH a mess.. i didnt really even expect people to respond.
basically i just made the thread last night cause i was frustrated and bored because i had to start choosing which albums go back to itunes.. I was NOT complaining..
The other reason i made the thread and worded it the way i did was because i have seen a TON of people say "i'm thinking about getting an iphone so that i can cut down on the amount of devices i carry ie: GPS, iPod, and Phone" should i get the 8GB or the 16GB?"
Anyways, i just posted becase in my experience, it is frustrating for a music lover to try and organize songs into "favorites" and "most listened to" because theres always going to be a random obsure song that i want to hear at some random, obscure, moment.. So.. that means i STILL have to carry my ipod on me (not complaining, just SAYING)
Why does everyone have to even START a flame war? why couldnt people just respond.. Or better yet, why couldnt people just ignore a thread that they are annoyed at.. or why complain about someone voicing just an OPINION on a public forum? Why flame someone for posting just a straigh up thought or opinion? Why?
