Or the iPhone 6.I guess you'll be getting the iPhone 5S.
(Those dates will change before the next release.)

If that's possible - that is definitely my vote too!

Why all the frowns at the 19 month upgrade status? You buy the 4S KNOWING you are signing a 2 year contract (that's 24 months by the way). Yet in "19" months you are eligible for an upgrade. Sounds pretty good to me. So, I will have this rather nice 4S until 19 months from now, and then I can get another, newer, faster, fancier iPhone? I'll take it!![]()

I just purchased an iPhone 4S at $399 + $250 (early upgrade fee). When I dial *639# now, I get "You may select equipment at our full retail pricing. An upgrade may be available on 05/08/2013."
When I called AT&T yesterday, a rep told me that EARLY upgrade will not affect my STANDARD upgrade date, and that it would stay the same. It was 11/18/2011.
Was I lied to? I asked more than once because this sounded odd to me, but the rep kept reassuring me that it was true.
I guess yearly upgrades are a thing of the past. I just upgraded and now I show an upgrade date of 05/08/2013!!!!! WTF, 19 months makes no sense. Oh well I guess I'll be using my early upgrade for the phone next year.
I usually get an upgrade every 12 months, because of what I pay on that line. But after buying the 64 GB iPhone 4S, my next eligibility upgrade is May 8, 2013.
Either they've changed something, or I'll hopefully be eligible in October 2012.
Same situation here. Usually a 12 month upgrade for me because of my plan but this time it seems that the upgrade has been moved to the same date that you stated. Hopefully it changes because I have done this three years in a row.
The upgrade eligibility rates can and do change. When I bought the discounted 4 last summer, my new upgrade date was set for something like February 2012. This summer I noticed it had been changed to July 2011, so I have just pre-ordered the 4S.
I actually think it would be in AT&T's best interest to allow you to upgrade early, because now that there is significant carrier competition with the iPhone, at least they know they've locked you in again for another 2 years when you upgrade.
This is the reason that I cannot understand anyone using the two year contract upgrade path for the iphone 4S if they already have a 4.
Putting off your upgrade eligibility until 2013 is the deal breaker for me. This is such an incremental upgrade to an already very good if not great phone.
OK better camera and faster oh yeah siri so I can talk to my phone and everyone will know what I am doing.
The Iohone 4 is a great phone plenty fast and a great form factor. Patience folk patience. There is going to be a huge feeling of, "What did I do?" from all the 4S upgraders when the 5 comes out in a few months.
Of you have a 3G or 3GS jump now it is a huge upgrade! But if you have a 4 wait wait wait!
650 for the phone you should have added a few bucks to that and bought it outright without a contract!
JMHO
Yes, but before this, if you spent $100 a month on your line, you got upgrades every 12 months. I'll give them until the phone gets to me to see if the date changes, but if this is the case, I'll be lowering my plans cost by a pretty good amount. I've always been paying for things I didn't really use 100%, so I can now drop that down. I always thought of the yearly upgrade as sort of a 'Hey, thanks a lot!' thing.
The fix, of course, is once the system settles down and we all actually receive the phones, if things stay the same, we all need to complain. Emails, phone calls, etc. If enough people complain, they will change the policy back.
LOL, why are you bashing them? you chose to pay $250 extra bc you couldn't wait 30 days. then you didn't read the fine print and now you're ticked off.Two year contract yes but, according to the rep I spoke to, my STANDARD upgrade date should have stayed the same. I found that odd as well, but some others have posted the same thing here.

Well, this sucks. One of the reasons I did it is because I thought I'd still have my upgrade for the next iPhone, and wouldn't have to pay the $250 AGAIN.
Some other members here confirmed this, so that made me feel better.
I asked the woman very clearly in three different ways, and she was very assertive that Early and Standard upgrades have nothing to do with each other.
At this point, I'm fed up with AT&T. They've been handing out credits, changing peoples upgrade eligibility dates, etc. After six calls, they'd do NOTHING to me, except misinform, apparently.

You aren't listening to the people in this thread. Who cares what we are upgrading too? For the past 4 years we have had 12 month upgrades, now all of a sudden we don't, that's the issue. Now, maybe it will change, but that is where it sits right now.
Yes yes, please come with the, "Well you signed a 2 year contract!" Well I signed a 2 year contract the past 4 years and re-upped after 12. So that argument really isn't holding water with me.

This is also one of the reasons I preordered from Apple- if I don't think its a significant upgrade, I can return within 30 days with no restocking fee. If I love it, and my upgrade date doesn't change to 10-8-2012, I'll just pay an early upgrade next year. Money isn't the issue, just the principle.
