I have been telling people that ATT (like Sprint ending their 12 month upgrade premiere program) has ended their 12 month upgrade cycle.

ATT started doing this in March or April 2011.

The reason it hasn't been widely reported is because the vast majority of users eligible for 12 month upgrades had been holding off until the iPhone announcement.

Since iPhone 4S preorders began, I knew this type of complaining about 12 month upgrade cycles ending would began. People simply do not listen or believe what people post.

This has been clearly discussed over in Howard Forums's ATT section. Android users over on the android forums also reported not been eligible for 12 month upgrades after they upgraded to say an Atrix or Inspire. Even waiting 3-4 months after using their Atrix or Inspire upgrade, their upgrade cycle is now set to around 18-20 months.

Sorry people just have to learn the hard way when the masses start realizing ATT is no longer willing to upgrade their most valued ($$$) users ever 12 months for their primary line.

I believe Verizon ended their new every 2 year thing this past winter also. Sprint doesn't have 12 month upgrades after people use their last upgrade. And ATT just did the same.

Could they change the upgrade cycle in the future? Maybe. But for now, they are treating primary and secondary lines the same in terms of upgrade cycles instead of giving the primary line the special 12 month upgrade cycle if you meet certain monthly revenue projections.

It used to be as soon as less than 60 days. Now ATT requires 6 months before the partial upgrade. Keep in mind, once you use their partial upgrade, you cannot do ANY (full or partial upgrade) for the next 20-22 months.

So if you use a partial upgrade for iPhone 4S (5th generation) (say $449), when iPhone 6th generation comes out in 2012, ATT will force you to buy at no-committement price and no partial upgrade pricing will be available at that time.

I know that for a fact since I was stupid enough to do the partila iphone 3GS upgrade back in 2009 and realize I couldn't get another partial upgrade for the iPhone 4 in 2012 and had to wait till I was fully eligible in 02/2012.

Hmm, this is odd. I bought the 3GS, 4, and now 4S with partial upgrades.

Looks like I was LIED TO AGAIN by AT&T. Christopher S promised me a $250 credit yesterday. Today I'm being told that it isn't possible and was offered $25 credit, 10% of what I was promised. There are many others receiving credits so I know it isn't impossible. I gave my best argument but to no avail.

Does your upgrade eligibility date only change after you activate? I pre-ordered a 4s and that line still shows I'm available for an upgrade

Also be careful not to change your plan in the middle of your cycle. I had an eligible upgrade in June and wanted to wait until the 4S announcement. I changed my plan two months and they actually took away my upgrade and pushed it back six months.

If you downgraded your plan (moved to less minutes or got rid of say nights and weekends at 7pm) that could affect your upgrade date because your primary line fell below the $99 voice /data 3 month revenue calculation.

They will not credit you for doing something you did. If you seriously think your owed $250 because you didnt read or understand something, thats your fault.

Because you were probably the primary line? My wife was secondary line and couldn't qualify for full subsidy or.partial subsidy upgrade until Feb 2011.

She had used a partial upgrade $399 to get the iphone 3gs back in June 2009.

Dude salespeople lie, there is no getting around that. If it is not in writing then you are just rolling the dice.

True. But if I upgraded right before the change, I'd have the same upgrade cycle. By making the plan change, they actually took a pending upgrade away and postponed it six months. Not a happy camper.

No iPhone 5 for you.
Everyone here will get the iPhone 5 but you will have to wait until 2013.

You can get the iPhone 5. The rest of us will get the iPhone 6, because that's what will be released next year.

I wasn't due for an upgrade until 11/23 of this year. After calling at&t several times to complain I decided to call one last time on 10/06 around 10:30 pm and I finally spoke to a manager which was real nice whole told me she would just issue my account a credit of $250 to my account instantly so I can purchase the phone. About 5 minutes after the conversation I logged into my account I noticed the credit for $250 had been applied. I had a bill due in about 2 or 3 days for $90 so the credit took care of that + I have $160 left in credit. Although, I went through many people who told me this wasn't possible so I just kept calling and calling until I got through to someone who was willing to help...

Those of you on 12 month upgrades in the past, did you check your upgrade date after ordering the 4? The reason I ask is maybe they quote everyone at 19 months but then slowly bring it down to 12 over the year.

What were you quoted when ordering the 4? 12 or 19 months?

I was upgrade eligible for both the 3GS and the 4, and just after getting the 4 my upgrade date went to 02/2012. That never changed.

Att changed their terms not long ago. You think they are going to continue to Mae exceptions for a phone they no longer hold exclusive? I'm sure they made that part of the contract with apple at first but after 4 years no longer was beneficial to both parties. Att was giving heavy discounts only 12 months after the first allowing little profit per phone sold and apple wasn't gaining marketshare fast enough. Att new policy an upgrade every 20 months no exceptions. It changed around may or June

I dont know when it changed but my first 2 iphone upgrades were allowed after only a year into the contract.

Now all of a sudden we have to wait, even though the iphone was released later than usual.

I understand contracts, but it seems like ATT was making exceptions for iPhones when it was exclusive. Not that it's not exclusive, they don't seem to care if you can upgrade or not.

I bet Apple was forcing ATT to allow users to upgrade after a year.
