For accuracy should we not be working out everything into jules first, and since power is the rate of energy conversion (expenditure) per unit time... thus
we should audit exactly how many joules a sata-3 drive would take for a constant set of circumstances and parameters, with given tests which are then easily reproducible for sata-2 and standard HDD - seems a tad ott imho

fair ti say the extra battery drain of the sata-6g drives really would not be as a dramatic as some claim on here - ps i think the calculations we are making are not taking into account several fundamental variables - 12mins sounds like a worse case scenario!

Look, I'm not trying to scaremonger anyone into not buying these new drives because of decreased battery life.

I actually really want to get one, especially the OWC brand as a) the performance and past reviews on their sata 2 ssd's and b) I love their company history and how they operate.

So thanks for those 2 calculations, however I cannot say who is right and whether either of them are even an accurate representation as I simply don't know.

@romeo21: how much were shipping and import duties?

Exactly what i wanted to know? VAT will be 20% and there are no important duties for hard drives - according to HMS customs and excise - i checked when i last ordered a owc sata-2 120gb ssd!

@OP: have the sleep issues resolved when restoring back to stock RAM and/or disabling the TRIM hack?

What what??

No excise on a HD? Brilliant news considering I just spent an arm & a leg.

Are you sure now?

Yes 100% when i enquired with HMS custom and excise they stated no customs on HDD, they gave me the commodity no: 8471705090 for HDD (no duty -VAT only). Ps when i received my fedex billing, i was charged 20% VAT and a £10 admin charge for handling - my total bill was £36
I paid $204 for 120gb ssd (garage sale +owc readers discount) +$5 discount as i used amazon checkout; $36 USD for delivery to London, item arrived in 2 working days! Total cost was £180 all incl (VAT+delivery)
AMEX aslo gave me 1.63 USD to 1GBP exchange rate - win win imo :)

I lose about 2 hrs of battery life when doing basic tasks (low I/O stuff like office, web browsing) on my vertex 3 when compared to the X-25M. It's easily reproducible as I've been swapping between the 2 the last few days. It's a great drive, I'm just not sure I can sacrifice that battery life.

I shall be using that number!! :)

can someone tell me how to find out what your read write speeds are? i have the apple 128 and i want to compare it to this one, i know it wont be as fast, and im fine with that but im just curious

I haven’t received the VAT bill yet from fedex so fingers crossed!

Looks like my beach ball issue has been resolved, I re installed osx and iv seen no signs off freezing or beach balling I think it was TRIM causing the issue so to all don’t enable trim

my avg speed was 180 read 200 write. not near as fast as OPs! now im jealous@ however im still very happy with the upgrade from my old HDD. i don't think ill be upgrading to another SSD until the prices come down and i can buy a 1TB for around 500 bucks!

Yes Apples is notoriously slow. I have the SATA2 OWC and I peak @ 285/270 with averages in the 255/250 range.

Mine is on FedEx truck for delivery this morning.
I will be doing an install during my lunch break, but wont' be able to post result until I get off work. Work overload :(

6G SSD?
Currently OWC only offers outdated SATA 2 3Gb/s SSDs. Compared to the vertex 3 they are ~ half as fast.

not so savy:p

:s
My godly powers overwhelm you but.

I'm just sick my order got screwed up from a double charge on my CC ( paypal) not OWC fault and was declined obviously so I missed the first batch. Now up to 19 days.

I'm spitting bullets here.

I need some love here. LOL

I seem to be off a little bit on the Read/Write speeds or what do you think?
I have about 40Gb used from the 120Gb.

Read: 462 MB/s
Write: 480 MB/s

Those are the average, not peak Click the button that says Text then re-run, you can see your peak numbers in the list.

I suggest a 4GB test.

Does anyone know what this means? In one of restarts after making sure Target Disk Mode is set to SSD, it gave me this error.

It's working fine now tho

That is what is displayed on screen when you do migration assistant and connect another mac to your mac to migrate settings via firewire or (in the future) thunderbolt cable.

Weird, I didn't do any migration since my time machine back up is at home... well it's not showing this symptoms anymore after many restarts so I guess it's good to go...
I thought Intel 320 was fast, but this thing is absolutely ridiculous in speed
