Have you checked with your credit card company to see if the card that you purchased the phone with offers product purchase protection? For example, most AMEX cards will cover the cost to replace or repair an item within 90 days of the purchase date. Other cards offer similar benefits.

That sucks. I was literally going to start a thread to see what people were doing case/less. I'm pleased with the new texture and decided I would go without one. But I went out earlier today with my brother in law to get cases for his my wife's and my mother in law's. I declined his offer to buy me one, since I always get AppleCare and have to come up with reasons to get new phones to cover my cost. Might end up changing my mind soon because of this post.

Thanks for the Tip! I just confirmed my AMEX card has the purchase protection enabled. But unfortunately I got my phone on AT&T Next. I don't think I would be getting any deal out of it.

Stronger glass my ass

Very clever. Nice one.

I dropped it, when i was getting out of the car! I had the apple case on it too. But it didn't help.

I took it to the Apple Store this morning. They took it in to verify if the 3D-Touch has any damage. If not I would be getting a replacement for $109. How i wish i had purchased the Apple Care +.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.

You dun goof'd son.

Lol, like how you wished you had APpleCare and not that you dropped it.

Did you put the down payment on AMEX? It might be covered.

Apple Care + is awesome!! Everyone should have that.. Now since I have AT&T Nxt I put Ausrion protect for loss & theft protection its $6.99 for total peace of mind.

Well damn. So much for the strongest glass in the industry. I have always kept my phones in Otterbox Defenders.... I noticed no one on these forums use them. I am too clumsy and don't want to worry about my phone. I was wondering if the new glass would make the phones more durable. Guess not.

No glass is indestructible.

And no, no one here puts a thick rubber and plastic case on their beautiful sleek iPhone. That would be absurd.

I'm more concerned about this. It means no more straight screen replacement?

its pretty ironic how people without Apple Care+ always seem to break their iPhones in one instance while those with Apple Care+ drop it occasionally and nothing ever happens. (speaking from a lot of own experience)

I had a 5s in the red leather Apple case for two years with Apple care and I dropped that phone at least a dozen times without any damage. Once it fell out of my hand and slide across the floor at Target face down. They really are pretty resistant to damage. I am going without Apple care this time since I never seem to get my money's worth out of it. I am going to use the Apple leather case and Zagg glass screen protector instead.

It's actually cheaper to pay the $109 for the repair/new device than pay for applecare+ and the excess.

Applecare is only worth it if you do this more than once a year or totally destroy your phone. Often carrier or bank insurance us a much better deal.

So don't feel so bad about not taking AC ;)

The iPhone phone best have fell front first. Falling on the sides and back, you'd been fine.

Exactly. I never recommend getting these overpriced insurance plans. They are made to make money (unless you are a total klutz).

Granted, 3-D touch may be an extra cost with these new phones, but if as in past years, the typical screen replacement ends up being $109, and you only break a screen every few years, you're far better off not getting AC.

I guess you do the math and do what makes you feel comfortable. The important part is doing the math.

Yup. If your like ijustine and always dropping them then some sort of insurance could benefit you. For the rest of us your better off just putting it aside each year. I've never needed it so the money I put aside has paid for a whole new phone.

For shattered screens, Apple care is more expensive no matter how many times you shatter. First broken screen: $129 without, but $229 with Apple care. Second screen, total of $258 without, but $329 with.

Apple care is only a benefit if the entire device is destroyed, or enough damage is there to require full out of warranty replacement. And even then, it's only a $70 savings. Betting $130 to maybe save $70, when the more likely scenario of damage is losing $100, sounds like a very bad bet to me.
