Well damn. So much for the strongest glass in the industry. I have always kept my phones in Otterbox Defenders.... I noticed no one on these forums use them. I am too clumsy and don't want to worry about my phone. I was wondering if the new glass would make the phones more durable. Guess not.

I am clumsy and drop my phones all the time. I found that if you just have a case with a lip on it so that if it falls face down, the case hits the ground and not the face of your phone, it is fine. I've dropped mine on concrete, hard wood, etc. I don't expect anything different with my new phone :) I personally find otterbox to be too bulky though.

But damn, $329 for a battery really gives credence to the crowd touting we need removable batteries (I know even most competitor flagships have non removable now).

Where you you see that? Apple still offers non-warranty battery replacement for $79

Overall, I'd MUCH rather pay as I go- $129 for a screen or $79 for a battery- IF even ever needed than pay $129 up front that is gone (and then $99 per occurrence too which makes the cheapest first repair $228)

Can't you buy AppleCare + within 14 days and then wait a few days and claim damage? I don't recall them ever investigating a phone when buying the insurance. Or just squaretrade and make a claim

You're absolutely right. I went back and looked at the page and I must have tapped out of warranty service (not just battery). That make a LOT more sense. You can understand my confusion with $329 for a battery! Lol.

And in in agreement with you. I don't buy insurance. I throw about $50 a paycheck into an account that I call my "oh ****" fund. This is for phones, car repairs, etc. I've saved enough money not buying insurance over the years that I could buy. Anew base model iPhone. And that includes the replacement I had to pay for running my iPhone 4 through the wash a day after tnrelased.

Yeh, even say in the year you own it you shatter the screen once and need 1 battery (rare for only 1 year unless you use/charge it a ton). You're at $129+$79 out of warranty.

Applecare+ you're out the same amount as you wouldn't use a $99 replacement fee but a repair fee. So you're no more ahead with Applecare.

If you never break anything then you're $129 ahead actually not buying Applecare! It's always a gamble, you destroy the phone you're out $70 over Applecare, but what are the odds of that.

I dropped it, when i was getting out of the car! I had the apple case on it too. But it didn't help.

I took it to the Apple Store this morning. They took it in to verify if the 3D-Touch has any damage. If not I would be getting a replacement for $109. How i wish i had purchased the Apple Care +.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.

Well... at the risk of online flaming over the morality of such things...

You COULD still add a monthly $8 Squaretrade plan to it, then wait a couple of weeks and file a claim with a $75 deductible. Squaretrade will sell to you with no questions asked as long as you have a receipt proving purchase within the last 30 days....

It's too late if he has already taken it to the Genius Bar. The damage will surely be notated.

You actually can't or you have to be lucky since they do some tests with your iPhone. And their tests can detect if your iPhone has ever fallen or not.. Sometimes these tests don't detect that.. But imagine you tell them on the phone that the iPhone never crashed and the test show the opposite lol

Otterbox cases are too bulky indeed. I use a Spigen Ultra Hybrid for my iPhone 6 and it gives great drop protection without adding too much bulk. It also gives the phone a nice grippy feel.

It's worth noting that replacing a screen for around $130 is actually a stellar value and I believe much cheaper than any other competitors' offers. That could partially be why batteries seem so expensive. I'm also certain they see much higher volume screen repairs, and so they're likely ordering more screens than batteries, driving costs down.

Truth. I'm in a relatively rural area more than an hour from the nearest Apple Store. The local PC/mobile device repair shops charge ~$250 for iPhone 6 screen replacements.

You're on MRForums, which probably puts you in a minority group of approximately <5% of iPhone users in regards to knowledge and fandom of iPhones.

I have many co-workers and family members who, without me, would most likely be calling up Apple on a regular basis. Have you been in an Apple Store lately? Places are filled with folks who have no idea how to swipe up or backup to iCloud (whatever that is), much less hold down power+home button for reset or enter DFU mode.

It's always flawed thinking to assume that everyone is like us.

Strong white knight. You've outlined a nice business model. Time to start charging your co workers for willmtaylor support+.

ive dropped 3g, 4s, 5s dozens of times over the years and thanks to UNU and Incipio cases for the protection. Your case seems to be just thin plastic. Perhaps you can get a case that absorbs the impact better.

If you own an iPhone 6s Plus:

Screen (this does not include Touch ID or 3D Touch):
$149

Battery:
$80

Everything else:
$329

I wasn't a big fan of having to pay the additional cost of AppleCare+ with the AUP, but the phone is heavier, there's more components overall and the 'screen' only applies to the glass screen now.

You're close:
  • Screen - $150
  • Battery - $80
  • Everything else $329

Call applecare and add it to the phone. I have done this before.

If bought phone with a credit card then you might have some "built in " accident insurance
Am pretty sure some credit card companies provide something like 90 days accident cover for purchases
