If you add a thick case, to many people it is a significant reduction in aesthetics, portability and handling, which is why it's not universally done. Personally I don't like it when I see the phone wrapped up in so much protection - it feels like a regression towards older "brick" phones.

Thick cases have their use cases however - when I go hiking I snap one on. However in daily use I prefer to keep my devices as portable and good looking as I can. This varies depending on the individual of course. The tradeoff of having a "perfect condition" device for sale in having to handle a bulky phone for at least a year is not something I'm willing to make.

I always wondered why people were so passionate about people getting Outterbox's. I have no problem with their cases and dropped my 5S many times without a scratch. Yes they add thickness but offers complete protection. In fact my case is being delivered tomorrow! No one offers better drop protection than them.

When it comes to trade in phones next sept. I won't a gave a single scratch and guarantee the highest resale value.

True but on my 5S there wasn't any diminished functionality or portability. In fact the rubber offered better grip than the glass casing which helps prevent slipping. Most people don't use cases because they want everyone to know they have an iPhone. Not the case (no pun intended) with everyone but most people that are vain. A friend of mine learned the hard why and cracked his screen and ended up getting a case after it was repaired. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Why people don't use cases like the otterbox defender is beyond me seems like most on here would rather commit insurance fraud first

In comparison to the 6S and 6S+, the 5S is pretty small, so the heft added is usually not too big of a deal. I also agree that the back slides way too easily - this is particularly true of the 6S+ for me. To that end I did get a very slim plastic "case" for the 6S+ so it wouldn't slide so easily.

Also, I've noticed many people using cases and still have cracked screens. Not all cases will shield the screen if you drop it - no doubt the Otterbox will. I'd definitely say if you're getting a case for protection, go all out, as you have.

I see what you are saying, but I am the opposite. Why someone would buy such a nice phone and than ruin it with a huge case where you never see your phone again until you take it out makes no sense to me. I use thin cases, and have applecare if I need it. Perfect compromise for me.

everyone knows how they use their iPhone. And based on how you use it you should know the type of case you need.

Showing off your iPhone is not necessary as millions of people have them. Protecting your iPhone is more important

I dropped it, when i was getting out of the car! I had the apple case on it too. But it didn't help.

I took it to the Apple Store this morning. They took it in to verify if the 3D-Touch has any damage. If not I would be getting a replacement for $109. How i wish i had purchased the Apple Care +.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.

If credit card purchase does your credit card offer 90 day damage coverage?
SORRY! Missed previous multiple mentions.

Screen replacement is also dependant on chassis damage. If it's bent or dented to badly they will charge for an out of warranty replacement.

I feel if people would look at the THULE Tough Case, they would see a case that does a very good of protecting the iPhone and is not a really big over blown case.
Most people don't want to give up the small slender size of the new phones, but they also don't want them damaged in a mishap.

How is the phone being ruined? Unless you're speaking abt aesthetics I'm not enjoying my phone any less. My phone still rings and I can use data. Not sure of your point here.

UAG is my applecare

Hmmmm.... I've repaired 4 devices so far (2 iPhones, iPad mini and iPad Air), and they've always given me a new device. Have you experienced otherwise?
I personally haven't, but have seen posts online.

theres a weird genius policy i read somewhere says that if you can make them believe the glass did not break because of an impact, they won't charge you for a screen replacement heh

i don't know how to actually convince them

maybe if it doesn't look like an obvious spider web , they won't charge you

heres a work order where i smashed my ipad screen, and gave them a sob story and they didn't charge me for replacement. the ipad was only 3 months old. all you have to do is convince one genius and they will look the other way and replace it on the spot. if the genius asks " did you back it up?", ANSWER YES dog bites ipad.jpg

Everybody is omitting the extra year of warranty coverage.

If your phone has a hardware problem after your warranty expires, Apple MIGHT help you out. But a couple months out of the one year warranty, I think they'd would lean towards payment to fix a phone.

Most people here are yearly upgrade freaks so it doesn't apply as much as it would to people" in the real world" that intend to keep their phones past the warranty period.

Please, correct me if I am wrong on any of these points.

Not unusual for credit cards to cover the extra second year warranty.

Actually if you only pay $109, that's cheaper than AppleCare which is 129 plus the 99 for replacement if you make sure this is the last drop you make.

I feel that many of the phone drops are because, many people just can't stop messing with them.
I see people crossing a street messing with their phone. I see people at the gym messing with their phones. I see people in stores messing with their phones. I see people almost every where messing with their phones.
So it's no real wonder that phones are getting dropped so often.

What the heck do you mean by "messing" with their phones? Do you mean using them? If so, you really can't be seriously suggesting people just opt out of using their phone because they might drop it.

Still waiting on my replacement device. I have been calling apple relentlessly since monday, apparently no one over the phone has any idea what has been going on or an estimate when I can expect the device !! :(:(:(

Don't forget, it also provides software and hardware support as well as phone support for 2 years. For some, that's significant.
It also extends the manufacturer's warranty to two years. That makes it worth it for some people. It's pro-rated if you only keep it one year. Additionally, they give you free 2-day shipping on replacements if you have AppleCare+. It's $29 if you don't. This is important for those who don't live near Apple Stores.

Yes. My family's iPhones since at least the iPhone 4 we bought AppleCare+ for the 2 accidental coverages. Usually we paid the accidental coverage deductible and the genius brought out a phone in the sealed brown box for replacement.

But early this year for my iPhone 6, I accidentally drop it and screen shattered and frame bended. The genius said it's covered under the accidental coverage and I just need to pay the deductible for repair. I asked if he's going to replace the glass and he said yes. Then I said the frame is bended also and only then he said he would replace the entire phone instead. It's the exact same accidental coverage deductible amount for either just glass or entire phone replacement under accidental coverage at least that's how it is at the store near us.

I believe he means "messing" in the sense that some people can't seem to get off their phones or put it away for more than 2 minutes. (think 12 year old girls "tweens" constantly on Facebook, thumbs upping every stupid image in their feed or any other social media.)

That is correct i just see them on their phones texting while driving, and many time causing me to have to quickly take action to keep them from hitting my car.
I am not implying people should not use their phones, just making my thoughts as to why so many get dropped and damaged.
I read a Photo forum and read where many drop their camera, how about a $3000 camera with a $4000 lens hitting the street. A little more then a $600 phone.
