If you own an iPhone 6s Plus:

Screen (this does not include Touch ID or 3D Touch):
$149

Battery:
$80

Everything else:
$329

I wasn't a big fan of having to pay the additional cost of AppleCare+ with the AUP, but the phone is heavier, there's more components overall and the 'screen' only applies to the glass screen now.

Ok but Applecare you're paying $129 no matter what just to get the service. Then $99 per occurrence of damage. They aren't replacing your screen for free if you pay the $129. So after 1 screen break you're already $100 (6S) or $80 (6S+) in the hole compared to just paying out of warranty.

The odds of an "anything else repair" that Applecare+ wouldn't replace either (like water damage it's not covered) are extremely low. It would need to really get run over by a car or some fluke catastrophic accident.

Battery depends how long you intend to keep your phone. If only 1 year until the iphone 7 then you shouldn't need a battery replaced (a defective battery is covered under the basic warranty) in a year. Apple has publicly said the batteries are good for 300-400 full charge cycles (0-100%)

I don't think it would be done $109. The genius was biased towards the $325 for the replacement. I will be getting an update about it by the Tuesday and a replacement, "I have no idea" :(

I dont understand why anyone in their right mind would buy any apple product without Apple Care.......

Read the post above you.

I've never ever broken a phone or water damaged one in 18 years of owning a cell phone. Insurance is a ripoff there to make money off people who never use it. The most common breakage, a screen replacement, is cheaper just to pay Apple than buy Applecare.

All damage is covered under apple care. Including water damage. Go read it. Doesn't cover intentional damage.

That's the whole point of insurance. If everyone who paid the premium filed claims, how would the insurance company survive as a business? No one can predict the future. Although you may never use the insurance, a tornado may come tomorrow and destroy your new idevice.

I dropped it, when i was getting out of the car! I had the apple case on it too. But it didn't help.

I took it to the Apple Store this morning. They took it in to verify if the 3D-Touch has any damage. If not I would be getting a replacement for $109. How i wish i had purchased the Apple Care +.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.

So... I just signed up for Squaretrade for my 2 kids' iPhones (6s). There is only a 1 Day waiting period until you can file a claim! I'd do it! This if from the confirmation email... (I erased my plan number)

I'm not disputing that warranty programs are basically cash cows. I typically don't purchase them but the exception(s) for me are Apple products. I don't use a case for my phone (I like the ID of iPhone) and I don't use a screen protector (wonky edge lift on the 6 series). I've only used AppleCare once, and that was to repair a MacBook Pro. It would've cost me close to $2k to have Apple repair the laptop. I don't drop my phones (maybe once or twice from 2-3 ft onto a hardwood floor) - but... these phones are ridiculously expensive. And they're constantly being put (and removed) in pants pockets, jackets, bags, the plastic bin that goes through the death-machine at the airport, etc. So yes, you have to really f* up your phone multiple times to make 'use' of AppleCare+. But if you view it that way, it's always a lose/lose situation. I don't want to ever have to use AppleCare+ to have my phone repaired. I don't want to ever have to use my car insurance to replace a totaled car. Or use my health insurance to cover a near-death accident. But that's what insurance is for - it's the thing you pay for, and don't want to pay for and don't want to have to ever use.

$100 more out of pocket is the risk. If you have no history, your better off. Never had an issue with every iPhone. If I have to pay $330 out of pocket one day, I'll just realize I'm $900 better off for not buying apple care over the years.

The risk on not getting AppleCare is $70. It's $300 for out of warranty repair on a 6S. With AC+, that replacement is $229.
So, you're betting $130 (the price of AC) on the off chance you completely damage the phone to the point of requiring complete replacement...to save $70.

If you shatter a screen, which is by FAR the most likely scenario, you will pay MORE if you have AC+. Even if you shatter your screen twice. Heck, even if you shatter your screen 5 times.

So, a $130 bet in order to MAYBE save $70. Considering in the 7 years of iPhone ownership, I've shattered one screen and never damaged the phone beyond that, AC is a ripoff this year. When you couldn't do screen replacements for cheap, it was worth it...but now? Nope. Insurance where the premium is literally over half of the potential savings isn't good insurance. That would be like having a home insurance premium of $115,000 on a $150,000 home. Sure, you might save $35,000 if it goes up in flames, but more likely, you're going to throw $115,000 in the trash.

Everybody is omitting the extra year of warranty coverage.

If your phone has a hardware problem after your warranty expires, Apple MIGHT help you out. But a couple months out of the one year warranty, I think they'd would lean towards payment to fix a phone.

Most people here are yearly upgrade freaks so it doesn't apply as much as it would to people" in the real world" that intend to keep their phones past the warranty period.

Please, correct me if I am wrong on any of these points.

Dropped mine on rubber steps at the gym just now and shattered one side. I had a spigen tpu case and a glass protector - both of which don't have a scratch.. Gutted.

First phone screen break since the 3GS.

I use my phone at work on job sites and the apple care always pays off. Ive dropped them into machines, off ladders, off roofs and they always cover it. Although since I bought the bluetooth headset I haven't broken one. I had my 6 since launch day and not one claim. I may have to skip it in the future but out of habit I bought it for the 6s plus.

Wow, that's pretty pointless! Which Spigen case, and is the glass protector also Spigen?

Spigen TPU soft capsule from my 6+, no name brand tempered glass protector, they sell them at a kiosk outside the Apple store here for $10 - they are really great, good fit too.

Have a genius appointment Thursday night.

Not so crazy as I have never bought insurance on any iPhone and I have owned them all and never needed it. The money I save will replace my iphone with ease if ever needed.

Buy or not buy is a personal choice and there are some who drop their phones all the time and not saying they would not be better off with insurance!

The worst part is you have a case on it and still the screen f*cked loooool.

I never use cases or screen protectors and my iPhone never gets a cracked screen or never had the body harmed. I guess im one of the few thats just not reckless with my items.

It'll happen eventually. I've only shattered one screen (5S), and it was really a freak occurrence. I had it slide out of my shorts pocket and land perfectly flat on the back (had Apple leather case on). Screen exploded. It is what it is. I've never had any other damage on any phone, and I usually use thin cases and no screen protection. I've owned every iPhone since the 3Gs, and have only broken one. Will it happen again? Maybe, maybe not, but it's not because people are exceptionally reckless...sometimes things happen. Now, if you shatter 4 screens a year, yeah: you're pretty reckless.

Did you

Did you use a credit card to buy it? Most credit cards offer purchase protection. Look into it.

Extended credit card warranties and purchase protection are one of the best hidden secrets that people need to know. I have hardly ever bought extended warranty. AMEX and Discover have always reimbursed me for any issue i have had after my original warranty is over. Last time i had to get an Out of warranty replacement, AMEX sent me a check for $269 .

Just dropped my iPhone 6 today, 11 months old. It now has one crack going diagonally across the bottom, in addition to a few small dings in the metal on the sides. I plan to call Apple and see if I can do the mail-in screen repair/replacement quick.

From what I gather reading online, in store they do a repair nearly every time, but with mail-in there is a solid chance of getting a refurbished phone rather than a repair. Does anyone have experience with this?

Should have purchased apple care then took it in. At least you would still have Apple Care after paying the $109.
